She should feel even guiltier when she realizes it took him SO long to notice. He was happy with her and loved her. He'd grieved his wife and moved on with her and was focused enough on her that he didn't go looking at old pictures. In fact, his relationship was so great with his late wife that he was able to move on and realize that he loves being in a relationship and being married, which set him up to be ready to meet his current wife and fall in love with her. So, she should be thanking his late wife.

And now, ironically, he's not over it anymore. He healed and moved on and she just ripped open that old, healed wound singlehandedly. He wasn't thinking of his wife when he looked at her, but now he sure is. She already mentioned half of every conversation they have makes him break down in tears. She has traumatized him and his daughter. Every time he sees her face, he'll be thinking of his dead wife and what he lost and she has no one to blame for that but herself.

One of the responses on Reddit made a great point about how her actions probably made her husband feel like he lost his wife all over again. He’s had to grieve her death, and now the death of her memory. If she truly loved this family, she would recognize how toxic her actions were to their emotional well-being, and bow out with whatever grace still existed within her. The fact that she still wants to save her marriage is proof that she cares more about herself than them.

This woman really tossed away all evidence of her husbands late wife because of HER insecurities that she suggested marriage counseling for BOTH of them. That’s what baffles me the most because she didn’t want to take full accountability on what she did. Her actions were intentional, not accidental. She only feels guilty because she’s been caught and it’s possibly the end of a marriage she should’ve been cherishing from the start.

Yes!! Marriage counseling would be good for them, if he’s interested, but to suggest only it and not have the self recognition she needs both marriage and person counseling? Incredibly selfish. @@soonkyupark6963 This is exactly what I was thinking. When if she hit with the realization of what she did a day or two afterwards, she could have gone back on the computer to retrieve the lost photos or even go looking in the dumpster for the pictures that she had thrown away. But not only was aware of what she was doing when doing it, knowing that it would be a mistake, but she waited 2 YEARS after that to tell someone. Not even by her own good will, but because her husband asked her about it. Now not only is his wife dead physically, but she killed all the memories of her. She's dead twice and it's all because of this girl being jealous . To end this off, I really think that she doesn't deserve that marriage or any kindness from that family ever again.

She donated items, like this woman calmly sorted through a dead woman's belongings and decided what was good enough to be donated and what was for the trash. This wasn't an impulsive thing, all of this must have taken some time, at no point did she snap back to her senses?

My thoughts exactly. If she had seen the photos and went into a jealous rage and shredded them or threw the entire box away then it would be a little more understandable, but she thought this all out. She took the time to go through everything, sorted, made the decision of what to donate and what to throw away. AND go through her husband's computer? It's clear she thought this all through. There was no fit of passion here. Maybe it originally started that way but its obvious when she came out of it she began plotting to get rid of everything from the late wife as she could. IMO she doesn't deserve to be forgiven by the husband and step daughter. Those are precious memories lost forever. Like the stuff, fine. But photos? Those are memories frozen in time so you can look back at. I really feel for the husband and daughter.

And the fact that she’s upset that she never looked at her as a mother. She has a mother, it is not her. She probably could always sense this weird jealousy of her mom. I’ve had a step mom and step dad and I have always called them by their name, because they were not my mom or dad. I respected them as authoritative figures in the house by they were NOT my mom or dad. My step mom really put on the pressure to call her mom and I had to straight up tell her that she was a parent to me but was not my mom. That is reserved for one person in my opinion.

You can say just about anything to "If you loved me you would ...." anything. Her actions were beyond vile, I truly am at a loss for words. This wasn’t a “screw up”. A screw up implies the act resulted in unintentional consequences, she knew exactly what she was doing when she threw away the picture and items. She took so much away from not only her husband, but her step daughter which is the worst of all. Her step daughter now only has memories of her mother, nothing tangible to hold and remember. If I were the husband I would not be able to ever forgive her, there is no going back from what she did regardless of the fact that she is pregnant. Unbelievable.

I had the same thought about wiping away this poor woman’s memory. She not only caused insurmountable heartache to her husband and stepdaughter, but she went out of her way to literally obliterate any physical memory of this woman. A woman who, by all accounts, adored her family and tragically died young. It wasn’t a ‘screw up’ or a moment of intense jealousy. It was a calculated choice that literally only benefited her. If she truly loved either of them, had even a modicum of empathy for what they had lived through, she never would have done it in the first place.

The anger in my father when he found me crying about my mother's photos and vhs memories in the garbage was like none I had ever seen. The fight it caused between them almost resulted in divorce and they almost never fought. My dad didn't keep the memories for himself, he kept them for me and my step-mom had no right to do what she did. It boils down to nothing more then her own selfish jealousy. There is no fixing it. For me, this was almost 30 years ago (I was also about 10 when it happened to me) and I still haven't forgotten, neither has my step-mom. She never felt guilty about it until I was an adult and she realized how much I did/do consider her as my mom and not just my step-mom. I was 2 when my biological mom was murdered.

As someone who has lost a soulmate, I cannot FATHOM losing every physical memory I have with them. To then go into his computer to delete everything, proves how horrific and vile of a person she is. If this happened to me I’d immediately run and never look back. To take something that can never be given back makes my heart actually ache. The fact that she convinced herself she was competing with a ghost is sick in the fucking head. How dare she.

This woman is dangerously jealous and resentful, she’s angry she couldn’t be her husbands first/greatest love, or the only mother of his children. I bet she was really jealous of her stepdaughter too. I think this marriage is a lost cause, because I doubt the husband will be able to forgive all the hurt this woman caused his daughter and himself. They’d be better off without her. she also sounds like the kind of person who can’t tolerate not being the center of attention, or having other people be praised or complimented, because she views it as being praise not being given to her. God help this baby, because he’s going to have a difficult childhood with a mother like that.

She knew exactly what she was doing, going through all those photos, even deleting them from the computer in a nasty attempt to erase her entire existance! There's no word for it! There is absolutely NO saving that. It's despicable. However fond a memory may be, having a foto to actually SEE that person is everything, and she robbed her step-daughter and husband of that. We have been married for 17 years in a happy, healthy marriage. Not to be one of those people, but we seriously have one of the healthiest relationships of any couple I know personally. I think a big reason is neither one of us are on social media so we don't spend huge amounts of time curating our "perfect" lives there, while living our real lives out. Keep your memories, look back on them fondly, and then book them back in the box they belong in and live your life with me and our family. Maybe both of us having parents that passed away young has influenced this some, we cherish memories. This woman is so wrong in so many ways. I could never trust her again.

I am an orphan. I lost my parents separately and my biggest fear was a step parent. And this is why. I would be in jail for assault because I would have beaten the absolute shit out of her if she gave away photos of them or threw them out. I would probably do some dark things. That is absolutely evil it’s unthinkable and it’s unforgivable. I really worry about her other actions she does when alone. How many other “snap” decisions has she made that they don’t know.
