I think for the second top it would have been really fun if you just took the excess fabric that you cut off and made bigger bell sleeves since that's what you enjoyed about them. Just a thought for the future.

Maybe you used the wrong needle size for the mesh? Also using a zigzag stitch would be much sturdier for stretchy fabrics :)

81 degrees in Phoenix this morning! Highs today 100! There's a chance of thunderstorms this evening!

These are cute! I do some slight alterations and mending, but my biggest problem is that my ratio from my waist to my hips (or boobs) is 10 inches difference. So when I want something high-waisted that is only elastic, the elastic isn't big enough to fit over my butt and still be tight enough on the waist. I've altered a few pants/skirts this way, and they're too loose on the waist and if I make them any tighter/shorter elastic I just can't get them on and off. I have to add a zipper as well which I don't always want to do, especially if the elastic is sewn into the item instead of just being in a flap, because then you have to worry about elasticized thread and the right stitching so that the thread doesn't stop the elastic from stretching. I think that might have been what happened to your skirt. If you just do a straight stitch, the thread is not stretchy, and it stops the elastic and the material from being able to stretch unless you use elastic thread or a zigzag stitch. But even zig zag stitches sometimes aren't enough stretch for me. Elastic thread is what you use to make that ruching like in the blue plaid top. I'm not that advanced though.
