I picked these 1995ish Technics SB LX30 2-way speakers at a thrift store for $32 and spent another $75 in parts to upcycle these and get a more than decent sound!

I found a pair of those and turned them unrecognizable. Idk I can't send you a picture. Started by opening them up and bracing them spraying the inside with flex seal and then glued down carpet pad. I got flooring adhesive and troweled it on the outside, then covered with oak hardwood flooring and sanded it down so you can't see any seams. I bought a budget woofer and tweeter and designed a quick crossover. But the cabinet came out so nice that I decided to make them really nice. So I got Dayton reference paper cone woofers and a Dayton reference silk tweeter. Then I designed a 3 rd order crossover on xsim crossed at 1400 to avoid beaming. I used ofc wire, lead free silver solder and ported it through the bottom that I designed on winisd. I used tung oil and poly on the cabinet. I routered the sides and tops and outlined the edges with gold leaf paint. I made the tops and bottoms 3" thick and put big rubber heavy duty feet on the bottom. The speakers look totally different and sound awesome. All my measurements, waterfall, distortion is flawless. They were thrift store trash and I can put them up against against a High end speaker and you wouldn't ever know. I just wish I could show you a picture

I feel zip ties are much better than people hot gluing the parts to the board. I had this idea also on mountings.

Yeah. I think if you aren't going to change anything, a 2 part epoxy would be good too and would hold better. But zip ties are great especially if you have to change things up later. On my high end build I used CA glue for a cleaner look but that didn't hold more than a year. I had to re-glue a few parts that came unglued.

Awesome video! I'd love to try this with some better speakers. I wish I had the knowledge to do this myself. Super fun video. Maybe upgrade the woofer and tweeter, install some polyfill, and re-invent this speaker? Haha! Do it!!!!!

Lol. The box is pretty thin. I don't think it's suited for a really strong woofer. Plus, when designing a speaker, it's best to start with the woofer and build the box off of its parameters. But a new silk dome tweeter would be nice, then cross at around 1.5kHz

@@RickRuizAudio True story. But we are here to have fun, right? Also, I can't believe you don't have 100k subs. Your reviews are really great and I hope you blow up! You deserve it!!!!

@@RickRuizAudiothe Dayton reference paper cone is the correct internal volume, I used that with a Dayton reference silk dome tweeter and covered the cabinet with oak adhered with industrial flooring adhesive. Redesigned a 3 rd order crossover at 1400 . Moved a new port out the bottom rewired the crossover with ofc wire and silver solder. I dip my inductors in paraffin wax .I made those same speakers into reference speakers. That look better than Devore $20000 speakers and they probably sound as good also. That Dayton reference paper cone is a special woofer . There's not a lot of 10" woofers that can be crossed at 1400 without breaking up at any price. I even forget what is under that oak sometimes

@@BostonMike68 Very cool, Mike! Yeah, I do like the Dayton References. I thought about using a pair of 8"s to replace my single 12" (Dayton DS) in my bass cabinets to my main speakers. I might play with that idea.

@@RickRuizAudio I was admiring your main speakers, I knew that they were diy but I was wondering if you designed them ? I like the Dayton ds woofers also. I just got a couple of 10" ds and they look serious and are heavy. The Dayton reference with the paper cone is the best woofer I could find that would work in a 2 way. That's hard to really pull off probably because of beaming etc. I looked around for awhile what would work. I used a third order crossover so I could crossover earlier with less distortion. I had a some left over hardwood flooring so I got an idea to use it and it worked great. I just had a lot of sanding
