I made your sandwich bread without a breadmaker. You just put the ingridients into the mixer, knead for a few minutes. Divide the dough into three pieces and let it rise in a greased loafpan for 30 min. Preheat the oven with a bowl of water to 425°F. Bake for 5 min at 425°F, reduce the heat to 350°F and bake for 40 min.

I make English muffins a lot and the dough is supposed to be quite shaggy. That is what makes the nooks and crannies. It is more of a batter. One of my cookbooks even says to shape them with wet hands rather than using a cutter. Yours look perfect 👩‍🍳

3 teenagers= I'm off the hook for breakfast AND lunch! 😆 No one gets up at the same time, no one eats the same things, and not everyone even eats breakfast. It used to drive me crazy because i used to have breakfast ready for them, and i used to make everyone the same thing for lunch, but i guess this works, too.

We've ventured into that territory already with kids getting older and wanting to sleep in as well as a toddler who's almost always up first, but I do TRY to get them to all sit together in the morning so we can do our devotional time. Luckily we're all used to eating breakfast a little later so it works out most of the time

Regarding your English muffins: sometimes a recipe doesn't turn out as written and/or the way you think. But you need to be resilient and persevere, as you said. You should be able to make the bread in the oven with no problem. Just use the bread machine to mix the dough and a first rise. I do this all the time because the recipe I have makes 1 loaf and 12 buns or 2 loaves. I actually prefer it this way. I bake at 350 until golden brown on top.

I have made English muffins a few times. What works best for me id to put the dough in the fridge for a few minutes to get cold before you roll it to cut. I also recommend using cornmeal to place on the bottom of the cookie sheet when rising the English muffins before cooking. Turning down the heat and cooking them for about 4 minutes on each side works great every time.

I love that both you and your husband are so frugal. I am too and love buying pre-loved items. However, my husband is so against buying used clothes and shoes for our kids. He grew up poor and worn a lot of hand-me-downs and stuff from yard sales and thrift stores. We’ve worked so hard especially him to get to where we are and still frugal. But he said when it comes to our kids, that’s where he’ll draw the line and want things brand new for them 😔 Kids outgrow their clothes so quickly and I hate paying for regular prices.

@lovingsunshine3515

@@OldWorldHome oh I have too. I think my husband associates thrifting for kids’ clothes as a reminder of financial struggles when he was a kid. He still remembers and talks about how embarrassed he was to show up at a classmate’s house to buy his old clothes at their yard sale. So when we had kids, he’s always put his foot down on this matter and I just let it go. We are frugal in other ways but not when it comes to our kids’ clothes. Although I thrift for their winter coats bc they hardly wear those things except when we have snow. I don’t like paying $40+ on something that will only be worn once or twice since we don’t get a lot of snow where we live. I love thrifting like you do especially for household items.

Are you still considering planting a vegetable garden in your backyard, with raised beds, etc.? Then you would always have lettuce on hand! Lol! ... do you have deer though, that would come and nibble on everything, and would you have to put up screening for wild rabbits, deer, etc.? Residue on Swim Shirt: you could get your daughter to hand sew, a patch over the residue area!

Yes, it has been a goal for many years, and maybe one day we'll make it happen, but we haven't put in the effort to get the infrastructure in place yet. Like you mentioned, we'd need fencing and it's a bigger project we haven't tackled yet. We have potted cherry tomatoes, and a few things in our little garden plot, so we're just keeping it simple this year.

I’ve never baked with wheat gluten. Does it replace the yeast? I noticed there was no yeast in the bread.

Wheat gluten helps it raise a bit more, but does NOT replace yeast.

Sorry I forgot to add the yeast to the recipe! Just added it now. Vital wheat gluten is found in bread flour, so if you're using all purpose flour I find it necessary to add the wheat gluten. Then you add 1 1/4 tsp yeast, or about half a packet

@@OldWorldHome no worries sweetie! I’m actually a fairly proficient baker but have never used the wheat gluten. I’m excited to try the recipe.

Hilary, a huge thank you for uploading this video a day early, due to the holiday weekend. It actually came at a PERFECT time for me. Today, could possibly be a bit a bittersweet day and spending thist time iwth you, definitely elevates some of that stress. English Muffins... Our Gabled Home has a wonderful pool proof recipe,. it has been my " go to" for a while now.

For the sticker residue, soak the area with Dawn dish soap or Castile soap (full strength) and then rub off the residue. Or you can also use Goo Gone. Our church uses the stickers too and I put a few shirts through the wash with them when my daughter was little.

I made English muffins using the recipe on the KZfaq channel, Whippoorwill Holler and they turned out great. She has some wonderful recipes on her channel.
