Playing Space Age in the Space Age sounds like it would make sense

Only problem would be making plant gameplay engaging. Animals run around and do stuff, but plants just stay still, leaving very little to do outside of the editor

@@endymon5240it would have to be another separate stage with completely different gameplay to that of animals they could certainly make it work

I heard in the FAQ that its possible to be a plant, but as the other commenter said, it can be quite boring and they cant be sapient unlike animals (i wish they added something to make them sophonts, its a really cool and alien idea)

@@WretchedEgg528 There is a lot of underlying complexity in Thrive. So while I agree that if you look at Thrive it is a reasonable thought to have that it would be doable in a few months, actually breaking down all the game features and GUI screens will show how much stuff there actually is. Also there's enough corner cases with the various game systems interacting with each other in unexpected ways that just fixing all of those would take multiple months. Even now we have close to 200 open bug reports (most of which are luckily very rare situations that most players will never see).

Try 2009 to be accurate.

This isn't the kind of game that gets major gameplay additions very often.

Alright 2 years ago game was on 0.5.8 version so let's see what was added since then. Day/Night system (isn't turned on by default yet but it's here), slime jet organelle, randomly generated patch maps, organelle unlock system, fog of war in patch maps (Patch map is not fully visble until you explore it), prototypes of later game stages, and other things that I probably missed. Yeah it's not that much, but last 2 years game had a lot of refactoring that is not seen on surface, but it helped to optimize the game and then bump the Godot to version 4, which is really different to version 3 that was used before. After all this work the game should return to more adding gameplay features

This update was mostly an engine upgrade for performance reasons. Better to rip the bandaid off now and not let it build up.

Purchasing Thrive on Steam or Itch is basically a one time "donation." If a lot more people did that it would be possible to hire a bigger development team.

I guess this is why even when simplied Spore had a lot of issues. What Thrive is doing is basically doing an herculian task of recreating life in a much more scientific approach, and you know scientific research can take decades too. A detail life sim is fundamentally different from a total mod conversion of a classic action RPG. Not only that Skyblivion is using an game engine that already have the basics Elder Scrolls loop down, but their they already have reference material from Oblivion and lores that they could translate into 3d models and they already got mechanics carried over too. So after many engine changes and now upgrading to Godot 4, I am still wondering if its realistic to keep this insane amount work crafting a very detail life-sim-model to other phases for the next decade.
