In regards to my "Reduced Engine Power" warning randomly showing up from time to time, I've noticed a trend in the weather pattern which leads me to believe that moisture could be getting into the "TAC" and causing this warning to appear and for the throttle body to malfunction. In this video, we will take apart the electronic throttle body and swap out my TAC for one I found used. Unfortunately, the one I replaced mine with in in much worse shape than mine and doesn't work at all. I will exchange it in the near future and keep you guys updated.

Check your wiring harness and make sure its not rubbing on your engine block. You may have some severed wires also look more into the gas peddle and the grey connector at the end of the wire harness to make sure no moisture is getting into the seal. I have the same vehicle.

I watched a video that showed this issue. Mine goes into Reduced Engine Power mode every now and then in my 06 Grand Prix. I did check those wires running up to the throttle body. Right where they run over the valve cover, the tape had rubbed/burned away, and 4 wires had the outer plastic shielding melted away. There was also sign of burn on the corner of the valve cover. Im betting this may solve the problem. It was probably shorting out when the bare wire touches the valve cover. I taped the wires up and ziptied the wires up so they wouldn't do rub on yhe valve cover. Design flaw.

Very helpful discussion & ideas. Shops afraid to touch this one. Too many variables. Replacing throttle body first step. Seems to not have worked but one problem may be solved. On to the next part. $50 ebay throttle body. Not bad.

I think my issue here was that at the time I made this video, I had no way of programming the replacement throttle body to my car. On top of that, the issue could've also been the gas pedal itself. Hopefully your issue is resolved a bit more smoother than this, haha!

You should have just used the whole unit buddy,not just the plastic part of the throttle body assembly.i got a used one,changed the whole unit,and the problem was solved .

My Pontiac has been doing the same thing. I've already replaced the gas pedal sensor with the map sensor, and I purchased a used throttle body I'm about to install. Is there any chance you would know if I have to get the used throttle body programed by a mechanic?

You need to have a scanner to do a throttle relearn after changing the throttle body or control.

My same problem, it was the computer it got replaced . There was a short circuit that didn't allowed the signal from the throttle to the PC, well it was the PC about 135usd .

Yes, you are right. it is related to the cold weather. recently it happened a few times on my 05 Buick allure -- temperature close to zero, cold start and drive away without warming up, after a few minutes that thing happened. and I turned it off and on, problem gone. after a few days of soul searching, I think the cause of this could be the spring inside the TAC body. when temperature went too low, the spring got too much stiffer than it should to be when it was new. and the computer couldn't compromise this much change----needs lots more current to drive the DC motor. my solution is warm up the engine for a few minutes and then drive. and for every 10-15 degree temperature drop, redo the relearn process, it could be solved, I'll try to follow up this comment. thanks everyone, any other idea ?

I am having a throttle problem too!. Found out it's a wire harness issue. I isolated it to somewhere near the fuse box in my 2005 Equinox. This is going to a pain to fix. But it's gotta be done.

Had the same problem with my 04 grand prix through the reduced engine power and then died and wouldn’t start would just run briefly. After some looking around on the engine found that my MAP sensor had actually cracked along the top so was throwing off the MAF sensor making it run too lean, replaced and ran just fine

Had all this happened to me and after changing the ignition control module I never had the reduce engine power again. I know it has nothing to do with the throttle body or related parts but it solved my problem after changing everything. But didn't do my coil packs or wire and plugs.

Interesting! I never would’ve thought about the actual ignition module. Oh well, the car is gone now.

@@MichaelAdamsRocks Having the same problem it's ridiculous how common this is and it costs 75$ to pay a shop just to plug it up to find out what code your throwing. Already spent 600$ on the throttle body and a couple resets had throttle cables redone where they claimed to have fixed it. Now were trying the pedal sensor next 5th time fixing it.

Screw off gas cap and cut engine off. Screw gas cap back on and crank it up. It want solve problem but it will work to get you moving on. That's what I do

Try cleaning around the throttle plate, a dirty throttle body could cause throttle body actuator malfunction inductor on the message centre

If I remember correctly, you have to use a scan tool to do the TPS relearn procedure after replacing the throttle body

Yes, the "fly by wire" throttle pedal control is not just a simple plug & play. The computer has to be paired up with the new throttle actuator component just as you say. I preffer cables .

it wouldn't surprise me if it is a short in the harness, because that's what i got. so i plan on replacing the entire fuse box with wiring harness. but before i put it on, i,m gonna put those fiberglass sleeves all over it, so i can make sure that it never melts and shorts out again

If it was the tps sensor or throttle, you would still be able to accelerate just not much. Looks like it’s the pedal sensor that actually went out.

This reduced engine power issue happened with me in my 2010 Pontiac g5. After $4800 over a year I just sold the same thing and got a new car. It is he'll replacing parts forever

I found out regardless of what throttle actuator control i put on here, I have to have a GM dealer program it to my car. Cost over $100 to do it. I'm not doing it right now.

$600+ in repairs on my 3800 III V6 I get the low engine power then lose acceleration, steering, and more than half of all electronics and the engine shut off happened twice while I was on a highway terrifying experience but does anyone know a fix? I can't afford another car and can't trade in a vehicle that can't drive further than 20 ft without shutting down (battery stays at 13.4 volts) idk what to do at this point

I had this same issue. The culprit???....damn squirrels are eating through my wires. Battery cable was munched but still connected. Fur all up in my alternator. And four of my throttle pedal wires were chewed right off next to the throttle body. I've seen a couple of these f***ers on my deck with missing and chewed off tails. Next on my youtube quest...repelling squirrels.

my car reduce powered light came on 3 times in 10 mina. I had to remove gas cap just to get it home. ordered pedal sensor cause check engine light said it was pedal sensor

I can’t find nothing on what’s happening to my 08 Grand Prix The motor will shut off when you’re driving and the computer is saying engine disabled due to electronic throttle control I didn’t get the reduced power code and after you stop and turn the key off it fires right up and the check engine light turns off I have had 2 close now and it is a dangerous issue because when the motor shuts you basically have no brakes and no power steering I can’t find one video on the engine disabled due to throttle control code

@@user-nb6ej1we5c update I took the Pontiac to a GM dealership and apparently the PCM was fried and $2000 later they said they fixed the problem knock on wood I have not had any problems since

I ended up selling the car. We checked everything, and replaced everything minor. Till this day my buddy still drives it. We just takes the gas cap off and Crank it up again. Then put gas cap back on. Solves problem for about a month

+sugar white There were no symptoms leading up to the actual error. It just catches you by surprise. I disconnected the battery, unhooked the throttle body wires, tried to clean off the connections and never had a problem with it again.

It came up with the throttle position sensor or the accelerator pedal position sensor. Check out the last video about this issue, you'll see why I think it's this.

Have to take your car to the dealership to have the new throttle body programmed to your car otherwise it will not work

While I tend to agree with that, cable throttles can rust and get stuck. One such example happened to a person on the highway, very dangerous. A simple reason for going electric is that all cars have cruise control. You might as well ditch the cable and do it all electronically anyhow. It also supposedly saves gas by having more control over the throttle, plus it can compensate over time for gunk buildup.
