My dude, I was JUST thinking about making a build like this! I was going to just make her a ranger with a bow and arrow, but the throwing aspect with Shadowheart's spear is so much more thematically appropriate! Well done! 😊

I have been playing this build for a while and shadow heart literally went from useless to one of my best hitters she hits all the time and is so useful! One rec I have for people starting out with this build early on before the selune spear go for the returning pike really good early on and u don’t need the two warlock levels and the respec since it returns! Love this build!!

I’m glad you like it! The returning pike kicks ass! I used the absolute spear and just weapon bond tricked it so it blinded people but you can never go wrong with the returning pike!

I’m inspired to try this build for Shadowheart in my first playthrough. I made the “good choice” there 😅 I’m curious to see what build you could make around the item Punch Drunk Bastard. I did it and I’m totally geeking out but I’d love to see what you would do

Unfortunately this is using so many bugs to function. I feel like most of this will be patched :/. The bind should not last after respecting, that will absolutely be fixed. Can this build work with 3 EK and 9 BM? Or will BM not be strong enough at only 9? You could maybe get away with using returning pike or Nyrulna but then you don't get the shadowheart spear :/

Not really bugs as much as tricks, they know about the bond trick, they fixed it with the pact weapon but left this available. You can also keep a companion at camp to bond it for you! As they will never change the fact that you can unequip the bond weapon that would also work for a long time

Ahh I see, it's because it's the same status effect as the inherent bond some weapons have. They could just make a separate status effect to handle the EK bond vs "general" bond, just like how Warlock's bond is different (although it is mechanically different). But yeah it's technically a bug since that's not how that should work in 5E, especially considering they've patched some aspects of it, but didn't find the camp chest trick. I'd say the build could effectively the same if they fix this, and the weapon is swapped out for Bloodthirst. Since Bloodthirst has the inherent bond status, it returns on throws, and has thrown property to benefit from tavern brawler. The build would be quite strong with the piercing vulnerability, since you could use an animal companion with piece attacks

You’re not stupid! I use a mod to change their hair. I’ve put like 700 hours in this game and changing their hair is a great way to keep it fresh for me haha

Oh I forgot to mention the armor, she’s wearing Blackgaurds plate. It’s heavy armor you get from the death knight in act 3. The flawed helldusk armor would also be a good fit until you unlock it

If youre throwing, I like the returning pike or the spear you combine from the owl bear, it blinds targets its super dope!

This looks fun :D. I'm doing a Barbarian Ranger run because I love the fantasy of a barbarian having animal companion since they are another class that is usual associated with surviving in the wilds like a ranger. Wolf is my go to because I love wolves. Thematically I take Wolf heart barb (even if it isn't the greatest) and my companions (Karlach and Shadowheart) and my wolf are my pack and we look out for each other. I found an awesome mod for Beast master hunter mod that makes the pet you get from it level up with character level instead of beast mastery levels so you don't have to commit to 11 levels of ranger if you don't want to, which is nice. Also it reduces the hitbox of the pets so they're less likely to get stuck like they love to do lol.

Woah I say wolf kicks ass! Changes the barbarian from just damage to more of a full party synergy tool, a rogues best friend for sure

@@rollforbooty Wolf is working well for the playthrough I'm doing this in, especially since they fixed it to work for unarmed strikes too. My friend is a Monk, Karlach is a Tiger Barb (might do the subzero build with her in this one), and Shadowheart is a Paladin/Cleric.

Wouldn't Nyrulna be the better thrown weapon for this build?

Nyrulna is the best throwing weapon, its a legendary weapon, thats not new knews lol

@@rollforbooty Yep. I was just wondering why Selune's spear was chosen over Nyrulna. Not that selune's isn't good, it is but Nyrulna is better.

Am I missing something? Isn't spears a versatile weapon which dueling cannot be benefited from??

So you can get the bonus with a vers weapon as long as youre using only one hand. im holding a shield so its always one handed! plus when you throw something in bg3 the system counts it as 1 handed

@@rollforbooty ok I think maybe I'm misinterpreting what the wiki is saying then because the way it's worded it's as if it's saying you can't have a 2H or a 1H versatile: When you are wielding a melee weapon that is not Two-Handed or Versatile in one hand, and no weapon in the other, you deal an additional 2 damage with that weapon

@@xmixaplix so the game auto forces you to use vers weapons with two hands if it’s free, so you gotta use a shield to make it trigger essentially
