96 year old car with a connecting rod thrown out the bottom of the engine that has been parked for 70 years, what could go wrong? This is a 1926 Ford Model T coupe, there were 15,000,000 of these cars made and they sold for less than $300 new. Not many originals left in this good of condition. Will it start?
Go check out cokertire.com for all your classic casing needs.

I know that Raycon helps support this channel, but I think people should know how invasive their web site is. I I clicked on the purchase now now button and their web site had all my info populated in it including my credit card number and email and home address. This kind of freaks me out. Also they charge you extra for everything including the charger. Sorry Josh, I hope you look for better sponsors than this.

I truly think you are experiencing coil problems. Each one of those coils have an internal tinfoil type capacitor which have a very high chance of being shot. I recommend checking the ohms to be sure. I have a ECCT tester and noticed some old coils can spark/buzz but do not throw a constant spark to the plugs thus indicating an internal coil problem. My Model T blew several capacitors in rebuilt coils which caused similar issues you are experiencing. Also your compression is fine. Lastly, grease the outer roller bearing in the rear axel! There should be grease cups by the end of the springs but ideally you should pull them out to clean and repack them with grease.

I look forward to your videos every week. I am a certified car nut since I was born. I like r your stuff so much I introduced my 84 year old mother who can barely move to your channel and after a couple of days she phoned my and said she found a new favorite channel. She was impressed by the family dynamics and even if she liked racing in her youth it was the family values that she loved. Since a recent another stay in hospital and rehab brought further complications to her memory and mobility I know if she remembers all that I try to spend as much time with her because it's agreed by the others of her immediate family that we may not have her much longer I appreciate how the time she spent watching your stuff made her happy. I personally want to thank you for that besides the fact I would love to do what you do with my family but my health is declining as well. You are blessed and may your God be with you all forever 🙏

Just to let you know, I had an uncle that actually owned a Model T. It was a daily driver. He rebuilt many of those engines. You are right, they are poured, then they measured the crankshaft and filed the Babbit down to close to the right size. Put the pistons and rods back in and tightened the caps. If the engine turned over and the rods didn't move, they considered it good, put it back together and ran it until it started knocking and then did it over again. I am 85 years old and a retired auto mechanic and teacher of auto mechanics.

Josh, you may need to try a simple Model T timing gage that correctly sets the timing rod location at the commutater. This will change the spark timing, AND you'll probably end up bending the spark advance rod (which you already started to bend) to the correct setting. Also check the inside of the commutater to verify the contacts are clean. Should start right up! Love your channel, THE BEST ON KZfaq!

As a Model T guy this was a bit cringey to watch but you're doing ok. As long as you have at least 30psi of compression you should be fine. Double check your firing order 1-2-4-3 with 1 being at the front. The position of the plug wires really doesn't matter as long as they are fired in the right order from the commutator. The other thing I'd go for is to dig into the carburetor again, there are some hidden passages that tend to be plugged. Also note that it will not run well or at all unless your spray needle adjustment is set perfectly, it will take some trial and error to find the sweet spot and it shouldn't need much adjustment if any after that. Start at one turn or so and go from there. Adjust it slowly in small increments. Also check for a good seal on the intake manifold gasket. Good luck! Model T's are fun cars

Watching him go through this without even having a maintenance manual is the crux of the show altogether. If he had have already known everything about this particular car and there was no puzzle to solve it would have been pretty boring. This way the kids get to learn problem solving methods as they work through to the final conclusion of the start of the engine. The dude is smart enough to figure the engine out even though he’s never worked on one before. 😮

I used to work with a guy that restored early cars, his favorites were AA trucks but i did help with a 1921 T that had an aftermarket aluminum speedster body. If i remember some of the earlier ones had leather main and rod bearings, the valves from a 327 Chevy fit or maybe that was the flathead V8 and the bands from a powerglide can work in the T transmission somehow. The one thing i remember from my time working on that old Model T was the steering gear is actually just under the steering wheel, not down on the frame. Love watching y'all's adventures.

found this bit of info on the internet about Model T compression..... The compression ratio of a Model T Ford engine was typically around 3.98:1. A new, well-built Model T engine with properly lapped valves and fitted rings would have a compression reading around 55 psi. Most Model T engines would start and run reasonably well with compression as low as 35 psi with the throttle wide open. Anything lower would indicate ring or valve issues. An engine too low on compression to start, likely below 15-20 psi, would have severely scored cylinder walls, burned valves, or other major problems. Compression readings in the low-to-mid 40s psi, even after a valve job and new rings, could indicate issues like excessive ring gaps, glazed cylinder walls, or other problems preventing proper sealing.

Quick Tip Valve grinding compound can help loosen frozen bolts and screws even better than heat or oil believe it or not. This cheat move was told to me by an old timer when I was a young man. After seeing that I had rounded out several button head cap screws while trying to remove sheet metal covers, I was handed a pill bottle filled with valve grinding compound and told to put just a dab in each screw head (BEFORE rounding them out with my allen wrench) I'll tell you this tho I have even had allen wrenches twist up like a barber pole without rounding out. This also works good on rusted bolts, just stick a dab in your socket (again that's Before you round it off) That bottle lasted me close to 20 years of rebuilding machine tools.

He said he went back around 1963, to visit my grandparents. And went back to that junkyard.Everything was gone. My uncle said he heard some guy came and bought the contents of the entire yard. He said, he hoped that story was true, because there was at least 100 cars there in 57. Would be a shame they got crushed, as a lot of them were very complete vehicles.

Vacuum/intake leak? Maybe the washers at 45:54 (looks like they have been added on) on the 3 and 4 intake bolts/(clamp downs?)? It does need quite a bit to draw in from the carb for a 4 cyl. Maybe remove the plugs and slowly crank and check the spark buzz with the stroke timing, confirmation. Did notice what looks like a crack on top of the exhaust manifold too. Or could it be to this at 1:28:18. Sorry if this confuses the issue. Please keep as original as possible. Great job Wawa, both on the wheels and piano, btw.

I had a friend that had a car from 1960. He went to RadioShack and got a radio to put in it. Just as soon as he turned it on it would light up then go out. He returned it and got another. It bib the same thing. He found out the car had positive ground. That's what kept burning up the radio's. ❤❤

My grandfather had a model T that he used to run around the farm, I was too young to know anything about cars at that time but I do remember no one could get it to run except him, there was a special way to move the timing while cranking etc that it would finally chug to life. Once running it ran like a champ, to this day I have no clue how all that stuff works 😂, was cool to see it in one of your videos, I bet there’s some experts out there that could give you the secret formula and that thing would run pretty well! Great video as always sleeperdude crew!

After Durant kicked them out of GM, the Chevrolet Brothers made speed parts for Model T Fords. Frontenac offered everything from hot rod cylinder heads to complete T-based race cars. A "Fronty" even won the Indy 500! With a Fronty overhead conversion, that motor made lots more than 20 horsepower. Marge needs a hot rodded Model T!

On old rotten tires like those, I get the beads broke down, pry one spot up above wheel and hold it there while I cut through the bead with a cut off wheel on my angle grinder. This lets the rest of the bead come up off the wheel. I then pry up the other bead and cut the bead. This gets the old tires of easy. Clean off the wheels with a wire brush and prep for paint, then paint them. This helps the new tires go on easier.

How cool to see a GM Battery in a Ford that old! I Actually live in Anderson, Indiana and my Father worked at Delco Remy here, Just two blocks from where I live now.. Delco Remy is no longer in Anderson and I think they are no longer around. I am of opinion that the battery is a Replacement circa 1953-57..

I watched a video about the model T in the factory, the babbitt bearings having 0 tolerance and they take and strap rear wheels to rollers and with it in gear it spins the motor over and wears the tolerance into the babbitt bearings. I also looked up what the compression should be, new should be around 55psi and it should run as low as 35psi.

This is an awesome automobile. My brother in law has a 1922 model T. I rode in it last year and it's fun. People back then must have been short and thin beacuse the cars look like they don't have much head and leg room. I am glad to see you working on a really old classic. My husband said you can still get spark plugs for these in auto parts stores or online. You got a really good deal on this. I think my BIL paid 7000 for his. His is slightly better shape and all original too.
