Historical note: That was Sonny's first start as Eagles QB. The game was the 1961 College All-Star Game, which was played between the NFL Champion and a team of rookies for charity. Sonny got the start, because Philly's starting QB in 1960 was Norm Van Brocklin; who had retired and was now the head coach of the first-year Minnesota Vikings.

When the Philly/Giants rivalry started with a tackle people swore killed a man that day (due to a person coincidentally dying at that stadium for other reasons same day). Hell, Joe Theismann was a beast even in my fathers era for wearing the single bar helmet. Shit was a magnet for grabbing. Film on old players is wild. I watched, and would reccommend you if you like it, film on Gale Sayers on the day he played in the mud. I don't know how a man glided where everyone stood still on that crap. People would be complaining today saying the game should be postponed! D:

That Sonny behind the back throw was NUTS! We use "Backyard football" to describe many a play, but if a play could ever look like a "just how we drew it up (in the dirt)" nonsensical play that's the one. Amazing. That's the type of play that explains why hes a Hall of Famer I guess!

On that last play - the famous one - in the alternate universe, Too Tall Jones jumps three tenths of a second later and pounds the ball to the turf. In that alternate universe, they still wonder to this day what would have happened if Too Tall had only, had only, jumped three tenths of a second sooner.

A lot of these are great plays by the receiver... either adjusting to the throw or making a crazy catch. I have a hard time calling any throw into double or triple coverage "great" just because the receiver caught it.

You're 100% right on that many of these plays were just great leaping receptions, and I suspect they weren't precisely aimed for a superextension catch like Romo would do with Dez, or any QB great fade pass execution (but again, think Romo :) ).

You know these are very good throws. However, you have to admit that most these were absolutely top of the pyramid receivers. Just look at the names mentioned, Lynn Swan, Rice, Shannon Sharp and his brother Sterling Clark, Moss, etc and throw(pun intended)in about 10% luck.

Wilson should have had one more throw in that video. The one I am thinking of is the throw to I believe Lockett where Wilson launched the ball and it looked like it was almost straight up in the air. When it came down it was dime perfect into Lockett's arms in stride. The ball came down as if it were dropped from a plane. It's like trying to throw it into a basketball whoop, that's moving over 20 mph away from you, with the backboard between you and the hoop.

One of the greates throws ever made...IMO. Ben Rothlesberger into the end zone to beat the Cardinals and win the SB. That ball was inches from being tipped by the defense, best throw I've ever seen. I'm a Cardinal Fan. I dispise Ben for beating them, but all credit to him for making that throw...the accuracy just blows me away every time I see it. I keep wanting to see the defense tip it away, but it never happens...LoL Best throw I've ever seen.
