Congrats on the boat...we got our 242SE at Team Winnabagloand, put thrust vectors on after first trip on water.....yes they make a differences in steering, we are very pleased with them and got a 30% discount from JBP through a deal they had on the JBP forums. Enjoy the Yamaha.

Team Winnebagoland is where I bought mine as well. They are the ones that installed the thrust vectors. Unfortunately, I didn't get the deal you did. But they did have them in stock, so I was able to get them without waiting. I guess that counts for something.

Jay - great videos. Two questions: 1 - did you add extra bilge pumps/find that necessary? 2 - In your experience have you noticed any issues with the throttle/steering cables? Saw in another users video they made a custom rubber cover in order to protect the throttle cable after stating it was not “waterproof”. Wasn’t sure how a boat could come without a waterproof cable that sits in the water lol. Thanks!
@SmoknJaysGarage2 жыл бұрын
I have not adding an extra bilge. Mine ran a fair amount the first 50hrs or so. Everything's seems to have swelled/settled and doesn't leak now. Cleanout ports used to be full of water, now they're dry even after 12hrs on the water. I haven't noticed any issues with the cables. I have the e series, so throttle by wire. But I have steering cables etc, and haven't seen any rust/corrosion. (For reference, I boat in fresh water and trailer to the water each time)

Nice video. Any reason you chose the Thruster's over the Cobra's?
@SmoknJaysGarage3 жыл бұрын
Primarily because my shop had the thrust vectors in stock, vs. I would have had to order the cobra fins. I'm very happy with the thrust vectors, but I would definitely not discourage anyone away from the cobras as I've heard a lot of good things about them as well.

I have a set of those on my 2010 AR240. Bought the boat with it. The 2015 and up got the rudder and the keel, how's does it compare to mine with the vectors. how many improvement did you had ? 25% -50% ??
@SmoknJaysGarage3 жыл бұрын
I never drove the 24' without the articulating keel. So I'm not sure how much control that added. Adding the thrust vectors I feel added about 50% more low speed control. My old boat was an '03 23' that had a different hull design, so not a fair comparison to that. But just for fun...my '03 handled much like a jet ski. Very tight cornering at high speed, felt like it was on the edge of out of control. (Fun with the kids) My 2020 with the keel doesn't turn as sharp at high speeds. Feels much more in control, a lot more like a stern drive.
@patl.55043 жыл бұрын
@@SmoknJaysGarage i got that jet ski feel on tight turns. But when i'm crusing i have to hold the sterring wheel on different angle depending of wind or current.

Jay, Why did you choose the Thrust Vector over the Cobra Jet Steering? I have been debating which to choose. Thanks

The local dealer had the thrust vectors in stock. And I've heard really good things about them.
@ronvictor59833 жыл бұрын
@@SmoknJaysGarage Do they affect high-speed steering at all or just low speed? Did it affect your wake for surfing?
@SmoknJaysGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@ronvictor5983 they are on a spring and lift up at high speeds. So no affect on steering or top speed. I didn't notice any difference in the wake with or without them.
@t-royjk9643 жыл бұрын
You may have picked up a little speed. Why? Because the wake edition comes with both nozzles angled inward to make a taller wake in the middle. This causes drag because the nozzles are forced against the column of jet wash to re-direct it to one side or the other. Same reason your boat slows down by turning the wheel. When installing thrust vectors the nozzles are re-adjusted straight so that the fins cut straight through the water and aren’t being forced through on an angle.
@SmoknJaysGarage3 жыл бұрын
They didn't readjust my nozzles, where they supposed to? They are still pointing inward.

has the plastic held up. if not what do you think about a set of aluminum ones?
@SmoknJaysGarage Жыл бұрын
Yes, the plastic has held up great. And they do have a warranty if you bend them. However, I have since switched to the aluminum Cobra Fins. I like them better because they help with tracking and stability on plane as well as offering low speed control.

So I noticed an almost 4 mph loss off of top speed after installing these. Is this common? Wish I knew before I bought them. The steering is fantastic, but the boat didnt need to lose mph.
@SmoknJaysGarage Жыл бұрын
I don't think that's common, no. I didn't lose any top speed. Double check that they can lift up freely. Also, you'll want to straighten out the tow in if you have an X model.

@@donaldlewis499 So I initially thought that it was happening. It actually was not happening. For some reason my speedometer was off and on for accuracy but my GPS showed the same with them on or off. I literally wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since they help so much in steering. For me even if I lost the speed the steering benefit would have been worth it. If you think they don't, then you either don't have one, or you don't know how to drive one. I can out perform and out maneuver a stern drive anyday. And I'd be more than happy to prove it.

@@SmoknJaysGarage I have a 2021 Yamaha 275 se. Had many boats. This by far is the worst boat. My last boat was a Chaparral Vortex 203 VRX. That little boat was superb. The thing about the Yamaha is trying to get it to go sideways when parallel parking. Also backing into a slip is sloppy. I just had the boat winterized and had the thrust vectors added and won't get to try them until spring. But just guessing you wouldn't have added them if it handled so great. Infact Jet Boat Pilot wouldn't have sold thousands of these. Yamaha needs too work and design a better system. Everyone I know that owns these boats have the same complaints.

@@MikesGarageReviews I would say they handle a lot better than they did 20yrs ago. Or even 10 years. It definitely handles different, and takes some getting used to. I have a ar 190. Question is to achieve idle speed am I just pushing the lever forward to raise bucket then tapping the no wake mode button once? Or is there another way? Seems when I do that I'm still going faster than I'd like to approach trailer or dock.

You can just push the throttle to forward without pressing the no wake button. That should give you a slower speed. If feel that is still faster than you like, you can bump the throttle between the forward and neutral positions.
