I think you came out ahead fixing the truck instead of just selling it. I feel like the satisfaction from getting a good truck back up and running is worth a ton. With that being said I think the truck is a part of you and certainly a part of your awesome channel so I'm definitely glad she's back!

This gave me flashbacks to last summer with the $5400 to the Southern California branch of that shop while they kept the Outback for 4 months to replace the transmission. I had never yelled at anyone in my life, and I gave them both barrels with all the colorful language I could create. I kind of impressed myself! The last time I scrapped was about 6 years ago and I'm also a ranger man. I did the same thing man with my radiator and it messed up my whole motor and it was a mess. I was in fort Wayne Indiana at the time and must have had the same mechanic as you lol. I just started back scrapping about a week ago and I've got a 94 ranger and I've got a good mechanic and I've already had it going through and I do check my levels at least once a week. You have awesome showmanship my brother thank you for all you share with us!

I put two engines in my Delta 88 way back in my youth. The first one was a victim of overheating and the second one just blew up. The third engine survived but the car did not. I was young when all this happened and I learned early on in my car owning days to have a maintenance schedule and a procedure to check fluids. Glad it turned out good for you.

Definitely been there with the fluids. Got to the point with my 1995 Renault Clio that I used to drive with a whole bunch of coolant and top up every 100 miles. No friends or professionals could ever find where it was all going. Two radiators later I gave up and bought a new vehicle.

dealing with a similar situation so i feel your pain. its my only vehicle so i went a week or two with nothing to drive which gets very expensive when you need to go places. 2 thousand more and a couple more weeks and i should be through this nightmare luckily i have family willing to let me borrow a vehicle for the time being. thanks for sharing your experience

Same thing I had with a car except it was the intake manifold, rebuilt that turn the key clanking. Ended up getting a whole new used engine. But had zero cost in labor and shop pricing for the engine. Also had a car where I redid alot of it and it had a bad wheel bearing, inspection coming up and so I fixed that and new brakes went to back it out and the tranny went, scrapped it right after that, the body was also rusting out to the point of no return but when I bought it you couldn't tell.

Ive started scraping because of this guy. The friends you have are worth more then any amount of money.

It was 1987. -55°f NEW Fing vehicle. The big radiator hose on top of engine had hole rubbed in BECAUSE IT WAS INSTALLED BACKWARDS AT FACTORY (which I didn't know at the time!) Engine was overheating but had to try and drive to next exit or die from frigit temp in bum F knowhere. Made it to next exit, engine seized, engine was still hot to touch 3 hours later when towed 2 dealer thinking it would be covered under warranty....nope....they claimed I shouldn't have been driven with engine overheating. $2,800 1980s money.🤬

Thub, it’s honestly a roll of the dice either way you go… I’ve been in this position many times before and you just gotta be happy the direction you chose brought you to where you needed to be without breaking you. You could have waited on the professionals and paid more or less, you could have sold the truck and bought something else, you could have done countless other things but you never know where it could have taken you. Now hopefully the truck runs good for years to come! And don’t beat yourself up… I obsessively check all my fluids, inspect all parts and stay ahead of repairs and STILL things just happen. Most recently to my ATV, which I took care of like a child, and still major issues ensued. Thats a long story tho

sounds like you did the best possible considering the situation,... I gave up on my license and driving cars/trucks in 2002,... since then it's been electric bikes. Year round in BC,... there's about 2 weeks in winter where I have to take the bus instead, but the bike is easier, faster and cheaper,... Biggest expense is about $500-$600 for a new set of batteries every 3 or 4 years,...

I’ve got one for you. My first car was a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34. Apparently it had a notoriously hard to work on engine. One day the heater core went and dumped all my coolant. The dealership quoted an enormous price so my dad said he had a mechanic friend who could probably replace it for less. Sure enough he could! Then a few days later I lost all my coolant again, so this time we took it to the dealership. They saved my heater core to show me. My shiny new heater core turned out to be the old one smeared with glue.

I can relate to your experience man. These lil trucks are work horses but Ive had a lot of problems with my Ranger. A lot of the money Ive made scrapping with the truck goes right back into maintaining the truck 😂

My 2004 mazda 6 clutch went out, most shops quoted me between 1200-1900 for just the labor alone. I found a guy that only charged me 650. In the process we found out the water pump needed to be replaced as long as the shift linkage cable. Then the front axel seal went and that needed to be replaced as well. Oh and the throwout bearing i got with the clutch kit was bad so it makes a noise now fml. But after everything i spent 725 for the clutch kit and flywheel, 40 for the water pump, 300 for the shift linkage cable,and 650 for the labor. And my son had to rude his bike to school for about 2 months while my car was in the shop. It was a huge responsibility for him cause its like 2 miles one way. But we got through it. Cars home. Thanks to god. And mr david the mechanic

A wonderful friend of mine had a lawn care company in high school that I worked for back then. He went off to college and all of his equipment sat for years. I bought a house with a large yard and he gave me one of his old mowers on the idea that I would be able to mow with it and would maintain his mower for him. After one mow I realized his mower needed EXTENSIVE repairs. Way more than just routine maintenance. After about a year he agreed to come pick it back up because he wanted to pull the motor for something. We both knew and forgot that it had a bad oil leak as it had been parked for a year since last use. We put a new battery on it and drove it over to his trailer. While adjusting the trailer ramps to get the mower on the engine threw a rod due to lack of oil and punched a fist sized hole in the block. The mower went to the scrap yard that day.

I went through one of though cascading journeys with a 69 cadillac that had a huge 472 cubic inch engine. My journey started because I liked to hot rod the beast so the timing chain jumped. It led to a whole lot of troubles that I won't go into because of length. I ended up selling the car for 300 because the transmission was shot.

I'm guessing the Mazda truck is just based off the Ford Ranger, so is the engine you swapped out identical? (apart from the lower mileage of course) I know this channel is about being savvy and saving a buck but I'd love to see some videos upgrading the truck. (power, aesthetics, utility?) I don't know if that's something you'd like to do but maybe some other viewers agree with me. Either way, you ended up pretty well off on this one and I think you have some amazing friends!

You're probably going to say "sure . . ." but I had the head gasket go on my '97 4.0 ohv ranger. I'm not a big fan of stop leak stuff. It's been like the witch doctor cure for decades. But I figured what the heck give it a try. Bought some Bars Leaks Head Seal, $40, watched the u-tube video, talked to the 800 tech line and followed the directions precisely, and I'll be damn it's been holding for 4 months now. Around town and on the highways. My worst vehicle disaster? A '91 Mercury (Mazda)Tracer, had the same engine as the miata. But the issue was the rear shock towers rusted thru. The shocks came thru the top into the trunk.

I have my grandfather's 1977 Ford LTD, it's a huge car and has a "wiggle" happening at highway speeds. What a nightmare! Replaced all the brakes/rotors/drums, all the bearings and shocks/struts, rebuilt the steering box, new rims/tires, rebuilt motor and transmission, AND the rear end.... no change. Still wiggles like it's going to come apart. Thousands of dollars into it and it still wants to jiggle into pieces out on the road. Speaking of "professionals" ... the last idea as to what the problem is: the ring and pinion. When I took it to "professionals" to replace those two things (with the rear end rebuild), they kept the car for 6 months in the front lot, rotting leaves all over it, and then they didn't do what I asked. They left the ring and pinion gears in it and simply replaced the rear end gears... even though the primary request was the ring and pinion. Those two gears are literally the last things which could be causing the horrible wiggle, and I was denied the repair due to the "professionals" not doing what was asked of them. So the car still wiggles after all those thousands of dollars.

I do all the work on my own vehicles and have taken my favorite one to only one mechanic ever…because I didn’t have the tools to replace the exhaust manifold on it…it’s a factory flaw and a huge pain…but the dude figured out I’m not just some stupid girl that thinks I know what I’m doing once he got under the hood…the mechanics are much more appreciative of a clean well cared for engine and transmission…I hate having to work on an oiled up leaking neglected engine…I’ve pulled two dodge 318 v8 s with the transmission and transfer case still attached and installed one set into a 97 dodge ram body with a lift kit…took us 6 months in the winter with no garage…it was funny seeing my son and his dad who didn’t believe I was doing any of it…pulled up out front and found me sitting up inside the engine compartment of this monster installing the wiring harness around the distributor cap..it was that old lol…my son laughed and shook his head and said she’s actually done it! Holy shite! 😂 they doubted me lol…I’m 5’ tall petite woman that had enough with being ripped off…so I taught myself. It’s easy…and I’ve discovered the design flaw chevy uses in their newer vehicles…2000 and newer…that causes the engines to fail when they do. You are spot on when saying check ur fluids! Because they’ve designed these engines to fail if u don’t maintain them and follow the specs and recommendations in maintaining schedules in the owners manual. I’ve been preached at by so many experienced mechanics and techs that I shouldn’t use synthetic oil in my 05 trailblazer LS EVER! Because it’ll destroy the lifters blah blah….I grabbed the owners manual and read them the data that states to only use synthetic and why..,I listened to them when I first got the vehicle….it sounded like a diesel engine running! Not good! So I tried synthetic because if it makes it sound and run smoother it can’t be that bad for it..right? Lol….it smoothed it out ram better and I got top fuel mileage …so I went online and got the owners manual for my vehicle model to make sure it was the right data…and sure enough..it has to have synthetic 5-30 and takes 7 quarts of oil for an inline 4.2l 6 cylinder…always always keep the oil changed! Especially if ur vehicle is equipped with vvt technology! Another big thing to keep up.,,dialectic grease on the electrical connectors throughout the vehicle…once every few years, check the connectors and clean them and put new grease in the connectors and make sure they’re tight and not corroded …the grease helps keep condensation from building inside the connectors…these newer vehicles have a ton of electronics and one drop of moisture can screw the entire vehicle up…I was stranded on the interstate during a blizzard…it happened before the snow started so it literally broke down and had me sitting in a blizzard on the interstate because of a corroded grounding junction! It took us 2 weeks to find the problem and $100s in unnecessary parts…I admire ur will power and ur attitude…that mechanic was intending on u giving up and just abandoning the truck at his shop…that’s what most of the vehicles are that are piled up around mechanic shops…non priorities or people who said keep the pos and not coming back…they make money either way.,so good that u went and got it and put it back together…I bought a 97 ranger with the 4cylinder with 200,000 miles one owner who was a mechanic…he passed away and his family sold me his pickup…it’s the most reliable vehicle I have owned! Literally never breaks down…it started running rough when I first bought it but was just dried rotten vacuum hoses that I replaced in minutes with parts off of an old air compressor lol….my dad snagged it and dragged it across the yard with his work truck and trailer and it didn’t hurt it one bit…keep the oil changed and coolant full and clean….about once a year and always use the recommended type of coolant..if it calls for dexcool only use dexcool because of the seals and gaskets in the engine….the wrong kind eats away at these seals and lead to the problem u experienced…I don’t recommend running e85 or low grade fuel in them either due to the increased heat which causes the heads to warp…bad thing about aluminum…it doesn’t crack like iron…it warps but a lot of times gets over looked because when it’s cool it warps back to its original shape making it hard to find…

Auto repair horror story’s I’ve got…everything in the front end, steering box’s, transmissions and last but not least a complete engine overhaul because of a cheap timing gear and chain from Autozone plus various starters, alternators, batteries etc…so you’re not alone in the vehicle money pit syndrome. 😩 “I get by with a little help from my friends.” 😎 God bless 🙏🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦🇮🇱

Here’s my very recent vehicle story. I have a 2010 grand caravan 3.3L that I use as my scrap machine. I both love and hate that thing. Why do I hate it? Because everything is broken. Why do I love it? Because it still runs anyway. Recently though it finally broke down. Turns out that just the littlest bit of corrosion on the battery terminals and wires will cause the craziest electrical issues. The whole car decided to black out whenever I attempted to start it. I’d turn the key, all power would be lost. No lights. No dash. Nothing. And silly ol me changed just about everything before ever even thinking to just wire brush the darn terminals. But after finally wire brushing them, the issue is gone. But that’s not the only issue! I have a coolant leak coming from multiple places I can’t really be bothered to figure out. So about three times a month I just top off the coolant. Now what’s funny about this is I think one leak is coming from the radiator hose and dripping right onto the exhaust manifold. This causes the escaped coolant to smoke up the engine bay whenever im driving. So every stop light I hit, a bunch of smoke just comes right out of the engine bay and I get eyes looking at me from all directions. It’s actually quite funny to me. Eventually I’ll fix the leaks and change the slipping transmission.

What an adventure... I was on holiday with my father driving from Rome to Berlin and the car broke in Germany. We managed to drive home at slow speed. After many failed attempts, it was a sensor for the fuel pump. It took a month to get the car back from the mechanic, since he had to remove the whole engine and other stuff

Just lost a transfer case. My fault no fluid. Was about 1200 all diy to get it fixed

Sold the van for 350 found a Taurus for 400 and simple can of carb cleaner set me back up I understand the whole video. I laughed so much.😅 thieves broke into my dads ranger the same way. Ripped out the passenger door lock. $600 some to fix. And they stole nothing but the lock cylinder! A $20 part! Tweekers, what can you do?

I had a 1999 GMC Tahoe I bought a brand new 350 engine from the dealer 5000 dollars installed they had it for about 3 weeks

6k wouldnt get a very good truck as it is. Let alone the 2k from just selling the truck, thats a down payment at best. It all came out in the wash, having the friends be able to help saved the most and learned the most. The rest of it is hindsight is 20/20. If you can get a few more years out of the truck then all the better. I would start budgeting for a newer one sooner rather than later though.

Sigh the purple people eater and the miles we travelled. It was a 90's era Ranger that I bought almost new. I beat that truck up and spent so much money fixing it. Finally the day came when I could pay no more. I sure do miss that truck and almost wish I had her back. Then I rode in my friends Dodge Ram and that was the end of the dream.

Just looked at the thubstore, very cool!!!! Are you going to do coveralls? Like the ones you wear all the time. You could do a version for cold weather were there lined with a hood and the cuffs are longer than the coveralls sleeves. Like how you wear it in your videos. Then do coveralls for warmer weather to. Also scrap and trash picking gloves to. Just curious. Always fun to watch you!!!

If you could buy 2 used trucks for the price of repairs wouldnt it be more profitable as you could do 2xs the work selling and buy svrap with the 2 trucks?. from the pics you showed those posible trucks looked nice for scrap transportation. The transmissions in both of our cars failed within two weeks of each other. I got $1700 for both of them and bought another used car for $6k.

uhm. dude. or a lawyer …. sue… wtf? you can show everything i’d assume?? so it’s if you’re afraid of some words regardless of the truth behind them. there may be a possibility of said guy resorting to some thing of some sort yes. However, there’s also the possibility of him not, it being all talk. everything can be done discreetly an investigation can be done and which at this point, I don’t know if this individual has your address, or even the capability that should be found out from other customers to see if they’ve had a similar experience or to confirm that the shop and the guy usually or have operated this way because at that point it’s as good as done with the strength in numbers to confirm. I completely understand where you’re coming from with the worry aspect of things, but at the end of the day you have a real chance for something here if you want to keep taking punches, left and right, thinking regardless it’ll sort itself out, they might might not.
