What a day dumpster diving! We braved the cold and the wind and the snow to get out there and find some treasure, and it was a spectacular success. Big piles of metal in some bins had the truck dragging by the end of the day, and we finished with a pretty impressive payout for a single run!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3sirg18
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
The grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
The melting furnace: amzn.to/3EGxT2q
(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)

@thubprint
@thubprint Жыл бұрын
Please excuse me if I misunderstood, do you mean why did I not separate the pieces of wire and stainless steel boxes from those pieces and instead just threw the whole thing in the shred pile? It’s a mix of laziness and poor returns on the time spent. I’ve found wire is very time consuming and doesn’t pay that much. The stainless boxes I should have removed and sold separately but my space at home is already full of other things to deal with.

@jimmywest7675
@jimmywest7675 Жыл бұрын
And also the way my yard works, the tin shred you jus pull in and go on scale they mark your weight then you go in back in dump then come back weigh in and then get paid. If you have copper and aluminum they have a dock with small scale. Just trying to figure out the prepared steel side of things
@thubprint
@thubprint Жыл бұрын
That’s the same as mine, I just don’t usually show the scaling out each time. It will depend on your yard because some have different grades of prep depending on the thickness but for me it’s anything greater than 1/8” thick and relatively free of contaminants. For easy reference I just think of the plug end of a 3.5mm headphone jack, if it’s thicker than that it goes as prep. Again though, ask your yard ✌️
@jimmywest7675
@jimmywest7675 Жыл бұрын
@@thubprint thanks man! So you just tell them on the scale it’s actually steel not shred?
@thubprint
@thubprint Жыл бұрын
@@jimmywest7675 they just confirm what order I dropped things in, they watch everything through cameras anyway. I wish I could be more helpful but it really comes down to how your yard likes to do things. Lots of steel yards just call everything tin shred, it’s one of the reasons I go to the one I do
@jimmywest7675

@@thubprint you’re a legend thank you man. Good luck on your scraping adventures. I just took my first two loads of shred in, there was some steel I didn’t know at the time, I got $196 usd first truck n trailer and $165 usd second truck n trailer. About $360 for both loads, I still have 10 refrigerators and about 10ish washers and and dryers. I consider myself a micro scrapper, I take everything apart to the last bolt. I have over 20 compressors to cut open soon, and I invested in a wire stripper, I also have about a truckload of clean / painted aluminum I need to sort. I’ve spent a bunch on gas picking all the stuff up, and initial investment, but I’m trying to start a scrapping business. Over here it’s 140 a ton usd for shred. I recently got into collecting the silver contact points off switches and such. I am good friends with my local coin store owners, they know the refinery, and said I can drop stuff off and get back either 85-90% I believe. I’ll have to talk to them again and see about maybe making some copper rounds or something too
