I was going to ask a similar question. I just got a Diamondback HD cover too for a Tacoma Pro. I saw pics on Tacomaworld Forum where someone used Yakima Q towers clips and towers but had to use roundbars. I'm looking for Yakima set-up but bars for T-slots. I don't want to drill holes in my Diamond back cover like using the Rhino rack set up on Diamond backs website or Yakima 54 inch track mounts ( these would need to be cut) used for Toppers. Am going to Rack Solid in my City soon.

I had an inno rack on my Prius. Great base and carried a heavy Pungo and another yak with no issues.

Hello. Yes, definitely something to think about if the intention is to be able to transfer a rack to another vehicle. There are some vehicles so similar that a transfer may be as simple as changing the fit kit and making some minor adjustments, however, this is uncommon. Thanks!

I was thinking about the way you went with the straps. What did you not like about it?

@@parkercummings1906 everything. It's so loud when driving. To get the straps tight enough so they didn't slip, it ended up scratching my paint and breaking the rubber seal on my door. The claw clasp things that should hold the straps in place did not hold after 2-3 uses and I ended up having to get ratchet straps to get home, which damaged my car even more. I almost completely dumped my kayaks off my car the first time the straps slipped. They literally slipped off to the passengers side as I turned. Luckily I was turning from a dead stop. The kayaks stayed on the J Hooks because I had them straped in. the rack itself is on like suction cups that are horrible and do not stay suctioned. The excess length of the straps got in the way inside my car. I was constantly nervous that it was going to come off of my car while driving so I only drove about 45 mph. Several of the screws that came with the J rack basically disintegrated in my hands as I put it together. Maybe if it was a better brand or higher quality strapping through the inside would be managable- probably still irritating but managable- but the Malone one... yeesh. some of the worst money I've spent.

The WingBar's tend to be a lot quieter and with them being more Aerodynamic, will save you at the pumps long term in comparison to the rectangular bars.

Yakima and Rhino-Rack have rubber pads adhered to the inner edge of the door frame brackets/clips, Thule's brackets are completely dipped in rubber.

Wafer type locks, in general, are low level deterrents, they're used for rack systems in order to provide a means to secure many points throughout a range of products, all with the convenience of one key operation. The goal is to provide a reasonable level of security without being a burden to the user.

You should buy the Wingbar and foot which is generic, with part 14-5127 which is car specific for the Leaf. It fits like a glove. Just be aware that you are careful when you assemble it, since the metal clamps and rubber foot is different depending on front, left, right and back. It's easy to take a wrong turn.

Recommendations tend to be based on what you want to carry with the cross bars. Aeroblade Edges are very streamlined and look nice on a lot of vehicles with the flush look. The downside of a Edge style bar compared to a Throughbar like Thule's wingbar is you have a lot less usable bar space on the edges. Aeroblade edges can sometimes limit the number and types of boats you can transport due to the limited space, potentially. It will really depend on what you are looking to do though, that being said both options work great! I bought the rhino rack. No issues. It's a better price point because it comes with locks etc.

All have great protection via rubber or vinyl coating on the clips and pads. Making sure the vehicle is clean at time of install and taking off the rack once a year to clean everything are best practices for a mess-free roof.

Hello. Roof top tents are not approved for clamp-on type roof racks of any brand.

If you come up with your own simpler design you could be rolling in it! Pricing isn't just from the design there are other factors, like shipping from overseas and duty that can add costs. In my opinion its that sweet sweet manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty and knowing each product was tested by a smart engineer like yourself that sets the Higher end brands Like Thule, Yakima and Rhino apart from some of the no-named brands you find on Amazon, or some factory bars.

Check out our channel, we have hundreds of installed roof rack walk around videos, maybe even on the model of vehicle you’re interested in.

All three brand offer certain qualities over the others. For most bare roof installation, our customers have found that Thule's system can be a bit more straight forward to install but Yakima's instruction are superb, so installation isn't that much harder if you're are good at following instructions.

Generally I defer to the fitguide as I have seen, "making it work" go squirrely quick hehe. For your vehicle Yakima has a fantastic fit though, that's rated at 165lbs. Yakima Baselines, Baseclip 175 + 160, and a 50 inch bar is what they recommend for your vehicle. Since bare roof installs need each tower placed so specifically at a measured point on the roof to avoid damage to the door frame, all three of these installs will be on the longer side. That makes it hard to say which one is easy, as they all require taking exact measurements and spending some time for them to fit right. I will say Thule clamps in the fit kit are the most specific to each vehicle, which can make them the easiest to place as it is much more likely the clamps are made for one or two models of cars so will exactly fit the doorframe. On that note, Rhino Rack has the least specific clamps, which can fit more vehicles, thus making them cheaper overall. This can mean Rhino installs take longer to get the placement right. The load ratings for Thule, Yakima and Rhino are 165 lbs, as long as your vehicles manual also confirms the car roof can handle that weight. It is hard to rate the systems without knowing the vehicle or budget we are working with, so if you give us a call or find your local store on rackattack.com we can find the best option for you

@@moorgoon The load limit of each bar, and the total weight limit of your car's roof, are two different things. They could make bars which carry 5000 pounds each, but that doesn't mean your car roof won't cave in when you put 10,000 pounds on the two bars. If your roof holds 100 pounds, put 2x 220 on it at your own peril. The bars are probably not the weakest link, the car roof probably is.
