Might be true indeed, but at the same time, what works for him isn't always guaranteed to work for others. People will have there preferences, however I especially thought it was an eye opener to hear him talk about what trucks do to the wheelbase of a board and how some trucks will have a drastic effect on how a skateboard functions. I personally wish they would make significantly shorter boards, like with a 13" wheelbase. My ideal skateboard would probably be 8.5" wide, 30-31" long, wheelbase of 13", lightweight tensor trucks to match the deck and 52mm Spitfire wheels.
@skankwave52454 жыл бұрын
@@PHeMoX you can alway drill your wheelbase and shorten kicks a bit, Would be harder to make a deck longer but smaller you can

Ben the secret to slashing into slappy grinds is to get really low before you get on the curb. Crouch down, lower than you would feel is necessary....and when you hit it, you'll just naturally find yourself kind of nudging into the curb. Once someone explained this to me, I was doing 10 foot long slappy grinds instantly.

Love your videos Ben. I have been watching them constantly and continously since I started skating. I have three mainsetups. My vert setup is a streetstyle oldschool 9.25 with ace 55's and 56mm spitfire formula four classics 99duro. I used to ride a 9.75 Dane Brady instead. My bowl setup is a flight deck 8.5, indy forged titaniums with 53mm spitfire lockins 99duro. And the deck that I use pretty much everyday, since the indoor bowl/vert season has ended due to the virus, a SantaCruz VX 8.5 with 149 thunder lights and 54mm 101duro wheels by the company Fast wheels.

Hi Ben :) another great review, thanks a lot. I like your channel, I discover things that I never really see before. Today, I realized how difficult first crooked grinds were when I tried them in the 90s, so maybe it was because at that time my trucks were very narrow. I must say that I did not really pay attention to my trucks. I can't remember how large they were. I rode the trucks that I could afford in the skate shop for my 7,5 or 7,75 (?) board. Technique in skateboarding is very usefull, thanks for your review and your expertise!

Best sk8 equipment reviews on you tube. No one is even on the same level or any trustable level that I would watch. His truck reviews r obviously the most detailed. But I love watching him skate the products too. Shows the effects of said equipment. I feel like Ben is not favoring one brand over another. Well maybe he leans Indy over everything else. But he lets you know why. Love the math n physics he uses as well. Can’t even remember anyone else whom does another decent product review in sk8ing. Keep crushing it Ben. I’m surprised companies haven’t started to send you product to review and more to buy ur favor. Especially deluxe and nhs. Or primitive/April. Crailtap. Or palace or FA/hOckey. Or any or all show brands. Everyone send this man a box this month please. And everytime u roll out a new shoe model please give Ben some pairs to honestly review. I think it would help sales and inform the buying public of the truth.

You’re actually really close, but here’s a little slappy tip if you want to keep trying them. Think of them as the opposite of a 50-50 on a quarter pipe. What I mean by that is instead of going back truck then front truck, go front truck then back truck. It looked like you had it, but you just had a little too much weight on your back foot which kept the board down and locked into the willy grind. A little more weight on the front foot and the back truck will follow the front right up the curb. Then the true test to see if you have them is when you can do them with your feet directly on the bolts so you can’t use any leverage from the nose or tail.

Thanks Ben for the videos explaining trucks which can affect your skate session. Before this ive been skating 8” deck with solid Destructo high. Too high for me and always has ghost pop. then i switch to hollow Krux. That time it was the best skate session for me but i dont even bother on the hollow things. Because im just a person who said ‘f*ck off with specific setup, just buy what you like and skate with it’. Haha Then after Krux getting destroyed, i switch to solid Indy. My skate session is not so good and been hard skating flip tricks. There i realise the impact of different setup of trucks and coincidentally which i started to watch your channel. Keep it coming Ben.

I have been riding Indys for close to 25 years and a I switched to the All-Terrain Maglights a little over a month ago. My person thoughts? Light and they grind anything. @@ReidDavidson Oh dude, I for sure bit the shit out of Jamie Foy's style on that. Too bad I can't skate like that! I wanted to see if there was something magical about it, and to me, it just feels super stable. I love it. The wheels stick out ever so slightly when you're looking down at it, and I joke about it being the monster truck setup as a result, but they don't really stick out that far. Truth be told, if your head is directly over the center of the board, the only thing you see sticking out are the axle nuts, so to me, it feels like the wheels are truly out to the edge of the board, not just inside. I have some 149s and 151s laying around, and occasionally jump between the two, but find myself coming back to the 151s. They turn a little bit different to me, but it could all be in my head, or the difference in bushings that are more broken in than the 149s, or some other external factor. I did see on the latest nine club stop and chat that he's switching up his setup a bit, riding a twin tail board and moved back to 149s so everything is flush again. He mentioned it makes treflips easier, which I would believe with less mass hanging out on the far edges of your board, but it's only 1/4" overall, so I wouldn't think it would make that much difference. In my experience, I haven't noticed tons of difference jumping between 149s and 151s on an 8.5. The 151s are 8.75 wide, and the 149s are 8.5. Hope that helps. Feel free to holla at me for anything else. (edit: So I just set up an 8.5 with 149s to compare appearance to my 8.5 with 151s, and honestly, just on appearance, it looks weird to me. I look down and it looks like the trucks are too small, because they're totally hidden under the board. It looks like I'm magic carpet riding. That's solely on appearance though, nothing in regards to actual skating. I have enough spare stuff laying around that I might be able to directly compare one to the other in the same session. I may do that to weigh pros and cons.)

@@charliebrookes9862 yea feel ya but if you like deep turning you use an 8.5 axle truck on an 8.25, 144s go with an 8,125 for me. There are people who ride even 139s with 8.25 but for me to get the most turn I want a fairly wide truck for the deck size

@@skankwave5245 i do the same the only thing i dont like is the weight the could take a tad more meat off and still have a great truck

I had the 151's first when I started riding a bigger board. I didn't care for them myself but I don't care for Thundersers much anyway. They always feel to spread out on the wheel base. By the way, what is the wheel base on the 8.5 blanks?

Should I put 151 thunders on my hockey 8.5 deck or Indy 149s?
@gunnarcole69954 жыл бұрын
On those slappies lean further back away from the curb. Lean hard enough so that your almost about to power slide and fall over.

Hi Ben, do you ever skated some Oj's Wheels?
@thisismyname25914 жыл бұрын
i loved them, rode one pair for one and a half year. mostly rode big 56mm conical wheels on them. only issue i had was i caught the wheel on noseslides, that baseplate is too far in!

Hey Ben, I don't think you look at your comments, but if so, what's the widest deck you would ride on some Indy 139's ?
@t3r08326 күн бұрын
The wheels look closer to the truck on Thunders vs others. So tail slides and nose slides will have more wheel contact on the ledge. Any thoughts about that?

I didn't know the 151 was a lower truck. You think if they were taller like an indy they would be better proportioned Ben?
