I spent 6 months on two sets of thunders. More of a truck diary than a review.

I’ve bought way too many pair of trucks recently. Bought aces because I liked em in the past. Now I bought thunder 149s because I liked em in the past. Feels like a never ending spiral I rode the aces for like 2 months😂

My first pair of trucks were Thunder’s loved them. Then i rode independent for years as a teen because i thought it would be more “gnarly” or whatever. Now as an Adult I skated thunders again and honestly my skateboarding improved so much. Morale of this comment, skate what’s comfortable/fun. Don’t skate something just because, “everyone else is.”

Yep that’s right! Opposite here. I actually didn’t ride Indys my whole skate life but decided To try them few years ago when Stage 11 came out and loved them ever since. It All has to do with your body type and the arch in your feet and all kinds of other body factors. 👍🍻

I have been putting a small wood Real risers with my Thunders and riding bigger wheels. This has helped a lot with crusty slappy spots. Conical Full is my all around wheel choice for any situation. They seem to have been made for Thunders ⚡ Have been riding a few different sizes on different size boards. Thunder is also making a Inverse Kingpin that's currently in testing ✨ Thanks for the Video

It’s been more than a year since I was on Thunders last. I always felt like it was easier to get a more stable, consistent and snappier pop on them and that they just felt sluggish on the turn compared to Indies. Currently getting used to Ace AF1s with their own Hard replacement bushings. So far I feel very stable on them while they still retain a very nice turn. My pop is not as consistent as the Indie Titaniums I skated before and I do get some ghost pop.

My favorite trucks were the old grind kings in the early 2000s. The king pins were invincible. I rode them very tight for the better pop and I skated alot of big and tall gaps and stair sets so tight trucks and 54-55 mm wheels and a big wide deck were the best to use for skating big tall gaps and stairs. I also liked Alien workshops, and habitat decks for the technical skating and ledge skating but they seemed to break easier than other companys. I broke one on a front side lip slide on a hand rail and hurt myself pretty bad. Zero's seemed the stongest I thought. But Alien Workshop had the coolest designs and were nice and light for more technical stuff. Back to the video, Independent trucks used to suck in the early 2000s, the king pins would break on me and they were heavier than other brands.

I'm actually a big fan of the Thunder Hollows. I went from an 8.0 to an 8.25 deck size and from standard 147s to 148s and it kind of balanced out. My only gripe with Thunders is they don't last and I hate the kingpin clearance and scrapping it on just normal 50-50.

Currently trying the 149 lights on a 8.38" Deathwish Jake Hayes (31.875" 14.375" Nose 6.875" Tail 6.625") and 53mm classics. I kinda miss the spongy feeling of the indys (especially in miniramps) and sometimes I feel like I just can't stand on my board anymore (a bit exaggerated ) because of the weird turn. But I feel like im getting used to it and many tricks, especially flips and grinds start to feel easier. I feel like the board would perform better on my 149 Indy though since it's a bit more mellow than I'd normally ride (even on Indys)

I like Thunders for as manny reasons Ben lists. But if I try a friends board with looser Indys at a park, I’m screwed. Then the Thunders turn feel like crap and I loose them and drop all stability. Thanks for the reply. I actually started on ace 44 classics (8.38 axle) and though the turn was very tight and fun, I wanted more stability to learn basic flatground on, indy was the perfect balance of fun turn with more stability than ace for me (a heavy-ish newbie). I'd try ace again at some point. I am also interested in the coming 9 inch mag-lights but hope that the huge weight reduction doesnt feel weird. Hoping those hangars fit on indy baseplates.

I love Thunders (skate the 148 lights), and the bushes always crap out on me about 2 to 3 months in. Tend to throw in their aftermarket light blue ones (94-95a i think) and get a bit longer out of those vs the light green or white ones that come as standard with them...but it's a shame on what is an otherwise goldilocks truck for me.

I was on Thunders for a long time but swapped to Indies a while back (no real negative reasons, just wanted to change it up if I remember correctly). I still have some decent condition Thunders lying around so if I want to I can swap back, but I have a lot of meat left on my Indies. The comment on Conical fulls feeling better on Thunders makes me kind of want to test that, but all Formula Fours have been harder to find for a while and I have had to be less picky with my shape choice. The classics F4s though were too skinny for me, gave those ones away. So as long as it isn't too crazy skinny I'm not too picky I think. I think I liked the tablets when I skated those a few years back.
