Where I installed my Thunderbox accessory power unit in my Honda NC750x, along with a 3-hole USB charging port (2x 18w USB 3 + 1x 30w USB C PD). Everything fits well inside the Frunk and additional accessory hookups like GPS, heated grips, etc. will be far simpler to wire.

Here's the power port I installed. I can confirm it will charge a surface computer in the frunk using a PD USB C to C cord. www.amazon.com/dp/B092M1XS1J

Totally appreciate this video, I mocked up a Thunderbox install that had placement in the rubber sleeve behind the battery but, without question, having it forward the way you have it is a better option because all subsequent wiring is going to be so much easier!(and will likely be cooler as well) Why did you decide to have the box inside the Frunk? My concern is the possibility of wire fatigue (if not mounted) and it getting bashed as I take things in and out of the frunk (I sometimes have my wheel lock in there), the hole (if not sealed) could allow dirt/dust/critters etc.. into the frunk. Love your USB solution as well, I really hate the factory one. (BTW: Amazon does have a nice set of 90 degree usb-c adapters.) Being able to pull that panel off to drill the hole overcomes one of my bigger fears about the installation of one. I am going to utilize it for a handle bar mounted (for now) Carplay unit. Running a USB cable out the front of the Frunk will allow me to play with the placement and also determine what my comfort level is with making it a permanent install. Anyway, to reiterate, really glad you made this video. I am literally about an 90 minutes away from applying the knowledge you've shared. Take Care!

One warning! mounting a USB where I did makes it impossible to remove the front plate without removing the USB port -- has to do with the angles to fit the plate back in. HOWEVER... because you don't ever need to take that plate off except to do air cleaner (which also requires taking off top cowl) that's no biggie. Can always just unscrew it, push it into the frunk (no need to even detach leads if they're left long), get filter change done, etc., then reinstall with plate.

there is some room on the right side of the frunk itself, but I didn't want to remove side panels and drill the frunk, so I chose what you see.

I put the Tbox up there for a few reasons. (And I did use the velcro to stick it on there, it doesn't move..) One, I wanted to be able to see the status light, and sticking it in the battery compartment would have hidden that. Two, the leads to the thunderbox splicer/blocks are short, so mounting the box back there would have meant stuffing those leads in there too -- and there wasn't much room -- or putting them somewhere else, somewhere much less accessible than what I did. I chose to lengthen the power leads (with cold-melt solder, heat-shrink splice joiners) and AWG14 wire since that was fewer splices, bigger wire, and got everything up to that very accessible spot in the front.

RE the hole for the thunderbox, well, it's only 1/2 inch or less, and completely filled with the wires. I could seal it, but didn't bother yet b/c I don't see a need. There's already a hole in that plate for the rubber band that holds documents! If you put it in the right spot, it's in the recess and doesn't catch on anything being put in and out of trunk, and even still has plenty of space for the little tool/docs container in the same alcove.

Thanks, you were able to run your leads from the Thunderbox to the battery without removing the side panels? Could you have put the Thunder Box unit where you have the hook-ups for external power...so, outside of the frunk?

thunderbox has to go to the battery. you if you extend the leads about 12 to 18 inches by splicing in some AWG 14, you can mount it in front of the frunk and the leads will go around the frunk to the battery without issue. You do not need to remove any side panels to run the wires. Remove the top cowl is enough, you then just push them around the outside of the frunk a bit and grab they on the other side (battery cover off), then hook them on.

Correction....awesome KZfaq Video! Just purchased a 2022 NC750 and now embarking on upgrades and mods. This is exactuly what I was looking for so thank you very much! I'm guessing you went with the TB-U02. I'm likely going with the TB-U01 as I suspect 5 powered accessories will be more than enough. Question..... Is there anything wrong or problematic with the factory Type C USB port in the Frunk? I need to put a cable, but I'm I don't see why NC owners aren't taking advantage of this supplied power port. Thanks again!

There's nothing wrong with the factory supplied one that I can think of the reason I went with this one is because it looked like the installation would be much simpler right to the thunder box

Also it was a lot cheaper and it has more ports built in and the USBC is the high-powered kind and I don't know that the factory one can do that

I chose the one with more ports because I figured it wasn't much more money and that way I would never run out. I recently ordered a seat from Portugal and got the heating option so that's another slot taken up

I think you can only get four accessories on the single unit. It's however many ports there are -1 which is the power supply
