Thanks for the show.👍 Though long retired, I operated a one man gunsmith business for 30 years. I specialized in older weapons, and was on contract with a museum of a university, and a couple public museums as well. With about 50 regular customers, many of which were collectors. One brought me a 41 Thunderer in very poor condition, with parts missing. He wanted it fully restored to firing condition. This was well before the internet, and parts were found from Numerich Arms, Dixie Gun Works, and a few made in my shop. Eight months later, I handed him his weapon. It was by far, the most challenging handgun restoration/repair I have ever done. And right then and there, I swore I'd never touch that model Colt again!😆

My Great Great Grandfather was Sheriff of Marin County California in the 1890's. I am the current custodian of his service pistol...a Colt lightning with nickel finish and a 2 1/2 in barrel. I've been told he carried it in his vest pocket.

I had a chance ten or so years ago to buy a Colt 1878, a stronger version of the 1877, it had, as I recall, a 7 1/2 inch barrel. The barrels are interchangeable with 1873 barrels.

I seen some of those at the gun show yesterday one was a early model with a one piece hard rubber grip that wasn’t made very long

Happy to see the ranch again and glad to hear that you will be sharing time between the ranch and Cody.

Very nice, Mark. Glad to see you back at that magnificent ranch! For what it's worth, it was the testimony from Pat Garrett that puts a Colt .41 "self-cocker" in Billy the Kid's hand at the moment he was shot. While not as sure of the veracity, it is said that Garrett auctioned the revolver sometime later in Lincoln. Sad that he didn't record a serial number!

I wish they would make repros of these like they do with the SAA! Come on Uberti/Pietta!

@@joelmclamore1898 They make those in India (Mark iV in 32S&W), but they don't export them. I always say I wish someone would make top breaks like the old S&W safety hamerless or Iver johnson safety automatics, but in 38 special. It would be really slick with moon clips

I also have one of each and they both seem to function properly both single & double action, however, since I knew they were so finicky and needed to be worked on quite a bit, I've opted not to shoot mine ... at least at this time. Great video. Keep 'em coming.

Where did you find 41 ammunition? It is a rimfire isn' it?
@3ducs2 ай бұрын
They are centerfire.

Anybody who doesn’t believe in God wasn’t looking behind you during that video. Some of his greatest handiwork was the landscape. Thanks for the video on a couple of firearms I have very little knowledge of.

Nope. It hit the edge of the target and in the opposite direction from me, whistling off into the distance.

41 colt, heeled bullets?
@P_RO_2 ай бұрын
Yep.Originally heeled, but in 1890 they changed to a smaller inside lubed non-heeled bullet. Which explains the reputation for poor accuracy with the 41LC.
