Here to visit my old 15 year old self in 2003. I'm turning 35 in February and cant believe how fast the time flew. Life is moving. Unreal. Life isn't what we thought it'd be... December 22 of 2022. We're entering 2023, I'm teary eyed, and floating in nostalgia. If anyone is reading this, I hope your lives are going great. And I hope your lives open up in 2023.

I'm turning 31 soon. I can't believe the mid 2000s was so long ago now. It makes me have a mental breakdown that Ive wasted my life and I don't even remember what I did wrong. I was born during the Gulf War, I grew up during the war in Afghanistan, and now in my adult years it's the war in ukraine. It truely is "War all of the time".

To me this song is about growing up and losing your innocence, realising the world isn’t a nice place and struggling wth the futility of living in a fucked up world. A lot of us wonder what the point is of living in a world like this. And I think it relates a lot to people who witnessed 9/11 at a young age, living in NYC

I think goes beyond even just those of us in NYC. The moment was pivotal so many across the US and other parts of the world. It really ripped out any remaining innocence and marked the turning moment that led to the chaos we see now.

@@brandenburgkommando707 I can't imagine what it was like seeing it in NYC as a child but it was bad enough watching it live out in the sticks. I was in 5th grade, remeber when they wheeled in the T.V. We weren't even old enough to watch an R rated movie but we could watch 3000+ parish.

This song perfectly captures what it was like living in New Jersey those first few years after 9/11. Having grown up in New Jersey with the Twin Towers as a backdrop to every day life- then suddenly GONE, along with almost 3,000 souls, was deeply shocking on a visceral level. And now 20 years later this song predicted how things ARE- constant war since 9/11, and nothing has changed.

Sad how Thursday is in the middle between the phxc scene bands of mid to late-2000's and the original indie emo bands and doesn't get enough recognition because of that. The same happens with Alexisonfire, both criminally underrated.

Standing on the edge of the Palisades' Cliffs In the shadow of the skyline very far away Like a lightning rod that couldn’t pull the storm from me I was 5 years old, my best friend's older brother died He fell from these cliffs The river washed him away, the current pulled him downstream And our lives float in the headlines, so we park these cars Parent’s garage Listen to the lullaby Of carbon monoxide War all of the time In the shadow of the New York skyline We grew up too fast, falling apart Like the ashes of American flags If the sun doesn't rise We'll replace it with an H-bomb explosion A painted jail cell of light in the sky Like three-mile-island nightmares on TVs that sing us to sleep They burn on and on like an oil field Or a memory of what it felt like To burn on and on and not just fade away All those nights in the basement, the kids are still screaming On and on and on and on War all of the time In the shadow of the New York skyline We grew up too fast, falling apart Like the ashes of American flags And we’re blowing in the wind We don’t know where to land So we kiss like little kids We used to be very tall buildings We’ve been falling for so long Now your eyes are a sign on the edge of town They offer a welcome when you are leaving War all of the time In the shadow of the New York skyline We grew up too fast, falling apart Like the ashes of American flags The pieces fall it’s like a last day parade And the fires in our streets start to rage, So wave to those people who long to wave back from the fabric of a flag that sang "love all of the time" War all the time, war all the time All of the time War all the time, war all the time All of the time All of the time War all of the time War all of the time War all of the time War all of the time

Oh boy! Back in the day, 'War All the Time' was just another banger on my playlist. But now, as a seasoned vet and a proud father, this track hits me right in the feels. The lyrics capture the struggle of growing up in a world where war is always lurking in the shadows. It's like, we're all trying to find our footing after the chaos of the post-9/11 era, and this song really nails that vibe. It's a reminder that even though we've been through some heavy sh*t, we can still rise above it all. The line about 'love all of the time' in the ashes of the American flag? That's some deep, meaningful stuff right there. So, here's to all my fellow vets out there who know what it's like to carry the weight of war on your shoulders. Let's keep pushing forward, one step at a time, and never forget the power of love and understanding in the face of adversity.

This album was the backdrop to my senior year in the pacific northwest. All those Friday nights smoking weed in the forest with what were inseparable friends and then getting behind the wheel of the Volvo in the pouring rain blasting this music through storms going to the places that adolescents go while developing a desire to escape. Longing to listen to this song with those friends in that familiar environment, but we are all in such different places. War All the Time is the only piece of it all that remains.

Anyway to update it, appreciate the kind comments, gonna be 22 now, and to clarify, my parents listened to this when I was young, still do, so it influenced a lot of my taste as I got older, and continued to listen to it. When I was 14-16, I still had a cd player while all my friends were getting iphones. This song will always be one of my all-time favorites. I don't really know why though...it's just uber-amazing. It's so unique. I've never heard anything that is the slightest bit similar. But it's not a bad unique. Cuz anything could be unique. But it's still really really good.

20 years later and this song is still relevant. Forming your own opinion is not a crime, asking questions is not a crime despite how bad some people and government want it to be.
