Have you ever requested for thyroid testing and been denied? This is commonly reported to me by patients.
I think that’s just crazy!
Your thyroid is a big part of your endocrine system - the system that controls all hormones in the body (including those that affect your fertility and menstrual cycle). It’s also responsible for your metabolism (how your body converts food into energy).
If your thyroid isn’t functioning properly, your reproductive system will often suffer.
It’s time for this week’s episode of Fertility TV! Today I’m talking all about the relationship between thyroid health and infertility.

Amazing!! Huge thank you!! Any of the two endocrinologist I have seen, haven't mentioned I need to lower my TSH, which I have it at 4.46. They both know I'm trying to get pregnant. I already have a miscarriage. I don't doubt it happened because my thyroid. I have Hashimoto, my Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies is over 769, and the Thyroglobulin Antibodies 39, TSH 4.46. I'm taking 50mcg Synthroid daily.

Have been having Hashimoto for almost 3 years find out about it after miscarriage. I have pituitary adenoma. Don't have family history or they just don't know. My doctor one time did for me full panel or almost full panel for thyroid and after that she doesn't want to do more testing even though I was struggling with severe migraines, digestive issues, high blood pressure and infertility. She said that my blood work is great and I am healthy I just have an anxiety. Since I was extremely disappointed in doctors I started my own research. And your channel helped me a lot. So now I don't have any of my symptoms and I'm pregnant. Thank you and your team a lot!💕

I have under active thyroid since 2002. I have been taking my meds everyday since then. My first pregnancy I lost early on. My second pregnancy ended at 20 weeks due to incompetent cervix, that was in 2017. I had been trying to get pregnant since then. I found out this year that I am Anemic and just had gallbladder surgery so hopefully with those care of I can get pregnant. Dr Marc I want to know more about Incompetent cervix.

I was wrongfully put on Levothyroxine over a year ago. My thyroid was all in the normal range, but the PA had me convinced that I needed it. She didn't test my thyroid until over a year later (around 14 months). My liver enzymes were elevated, my thyroid was in hyperthyroid and my periods were only lasting about 3 days. I just miscarried less than a week ago and my TSH is non existent. I am not sure that is what caused it, but now my Free t4 and free t3 are JUST now returning to a normal range, but my TSH is less than .01. I am now going to see an endocrinologist and a fertility doctor. I am 37 years old and it has been almost 2 years since she put me on that medication and almost a year ago (this next October) since I stopped taking it.

Thank you so much for this! I am 38 years old, 125 lbs and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2012. My father also had hypothyroidism. I have been stable on levothyroxine 137 mcg but I am currently trying to conceive with one unknown miscarriage as of recent. I had my lab results checked in April of this year where my TSH was 4.06 and my T4 was 1.10. I just had my levels checked again in June where my TSH is now 0.221 and my T4 is 1.95, T3 is 3.2. I’m having a hard time understanding why there is such a stark difference between my levels from just that amount of time. My fertility doctor was having me tested to see about chances of being infertile. I am also taking supplements, I have regular menstrual cycles every month, ovulated this month as well with my level being at 14. I’m just having a hard time understanding why now it’s put me in the hyper bracket instead of hypo?

I’ve had Graves’ disease since 2015, wouldn’t respond to treatment so I had 2 rounds of RAI, now been hypo since November 2019, been TTC for 22 cycles and have gained so much weight, take 200mcg of levothyroxine and there hasn’t even been a hint of a pregnancy! I’m so mentally drained by it I am on the verge of just admitting that it won’t happen

What suppplements do you recommend for autoimmune issues? What amount of nature throid would you put me on? I can't find a dr that will put me on any thyroid medication. I have had 6 miscarriages between 2006 and 2011. My 1st pregnancy was fine except for having my son a month early due to my water breaking. I went on depo Provera right after having him and was on it for 2 years. We wanted to have another baby but every time I would get pregnant, my thyroid levels would be off and my HCG levels wouldn't raise like they should. After my 3rd miscarriage, they did more blood work and found that I was positive for the Antinuclear Antibody and sent me to a gynecologist to have more detailed testing done. She thought I had Sjogrens syndrome and sent me to a rheumatologist and it was confirmed that I do have that antibody. After my miscarriages, my thyroid tests would come back normal; however, after my last miscarriage which was the baby I carried the longest to 8 weeks, my thyroid levels were no longer normal. During the last few pregnancies, they tried me on progesterone suppositories. I have always wanted another baby but have never gotten a solution. I have wondered if the depo shot did something or if going 4 days with my water broke in the hospital did something.

I just learned after learning my thyroid is enlarged (even though 2 1/2 years ago after not getting pregnant for about 6 months I asked to have my thyroid levels checked and I was told everything was fine and completely normal at a level 9. Which I now know is high)that my paternal aunt had issues with her thyroid. I’m on metformin now, going on about 2 weeks. But I just feel like this isn’t going to solve my issues. My husband and I have been TTC for 3 years. It’s so exhausting and frustrating.

Thank you so much for this video! I recently had half of my thyroid gland removed last August due to a benign tumor. I do not have an auto immune issue, but because of the tumor, when I was pregnant with my first baby, my doctor told me I was a little low so he put me on some synthetic thyroid but that was before the surgery. Now since having the surgery, I am on a little bit more medication, but I’m having trouble getting pregnant with our second child and it’s very difficult. We’ve been trying for over six months now. I am breast-feeding just once a day, I thought maybe that was the issue, but I don’t think it is. Starting to think it’s my thyroid. I’m thinking about going to get a full panel since I might not have had everything checked and maybe I’m not on enough medication. Anyway, I know this is a long comment but this video might have just been what I needed. I was wondering if my thyroid surgery is causing infertility. I was afraid of that. Hoping it can be fixed and that we can conceive again soon. Also hoping my general doctor will not deny me the full panel

It was until I went to the doc in December 2020. Labs came back and my tsh levels were 4.4, so they put me on levothyroxine for 3 months. I had labs again as a follow up got my labs back today and my tsh is 1.7 now. Do I have any chances on conceiving soon?

I just found out about this video. Thanks for explaining about the thyroid disease. I have family history of thyroid. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in high school. I have been taking Levothyroxine for many years, and my TSH and T4 is under control. You were right, my OB and even endocrinologist refuse to test my TPO and thyrogloblin because my TSH and T4 were fine. My RE tested and turned out my two thyroid antibodies were rocket high. I am not sure what to do because my endocrinologist said I am fine. It doesn't feel right to me. how to hear from your advice. Thank you =)

I’d your TSH and T4 are ok then they won’t do anything else. They can’t treat antibodies. This is an autoimmune disorder. This is by no mean medical advice, but by common sense I would eat a low inflammatory diet and exercise besides taking thyroid medication

My functional doctor suggested I take iodine because I had none detected in my body. Now my TSH is the highest it’s ever been 5.2. I’m on levothyroxine and it is still 5.2. Should I stop taking the iodine, it is the only correlation with this spike in TSH? For context is have had hypothyroidism for awhile now. But usually on levo I can get my TSH at least to a 2 Some say my body has been so deprived of iodine that my TSH is raising but i don’t know how true that could be. What do you think?

Thyroid seems to be on the hot seat, for more than just fertility. I have had the extended panel and didn't show signs of thyroid problems (although I have had below 1 as well as 2.5 TSH depending on when it was done). I have really thick hair. I have cold hands, low basal body. But I don't have fatigue, more likely to have trouble sleeping, edginess. I have been thin for most of my life. I just wonder if something else can cause similar symptoms to the symptoms quoted for thyroid like low basal body temp and cold hands?

My mom has hypothyroidism. I asked about this many times over the years of ttc. My first RE tested my TSH only in 2008 and it was "normal" at 3.5 and I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I didn't get pregnant for 12 years until 1 month after my chiropractor diagnosed me with hashimoto's/hypothyroidism. He ran a full thyroid panel with antibodies. Now I am dealing with recurrent loss but I think that is from egg quality due to endometriosis.

Thank you so much for this video! I have found out recently that I have Hoshimoto’s, and have miscarried twice in a row.. doctors are saying everything is fine, and losing two babies is heartbreaking and I don’t want to lose anymore babies.. I wish more doctors like you were out there helping woman like me; and so many others knowing our body.. what’s going on and how to seek the proper help we need! 💕 So, with someone with Hoshimoto’s would be easier to carry a baby with the proper medication? From what you described I believe I have more Hypothyroidism.. as it wasn’t hard to get pregnant more harder to maintain that pregnancy

@natalie.marie22, What kind of treatment or protocol for you regarding the hashimotos or hypothyroidism in prep for baby? I too had 2 miscarriages in a row. My TSH was 2.32 and I just asked for t3, t4 and thyroid antibodies test to find out if I have hashimotos or if something can be off. I do have cold feet and fatigued kind of hoping that hashimotos or thyroid is found something there so I can treat it and not worry bout losses as much it’s so worrisome

@@missld6856 Sorry I just saw this! With my current pregnancy (praise God🙏🏼💗🌈) I am currently like 20 weeks pregnant! Now, going into this pregnancy I wanted my thyroid tested almost immediately as I KNEW something related to my autoimmune disease was correlated to my miscarriages. So, I had my OB clinic order me a thyroid test (TSH), and before pregnancy it was 2.5, and not even a 4 days finding out I was pregnant I found out mg thyroid was up to 11.3! Which is SUPER high! Then finally doctors were listening, and I got on thyroid medication the next morning! So, that’s one of the things I did! The other was I also tested my progesterone throughout my cycle, and found out my progesterone was also low! I was also taking progesterone supplements (the inserting ones) throughout the first 12 weeks of pregnancy! Along with taking extra iron, extra vitamin D as these are all the things that I was super low in and tried to make sure to take them as I was trying to get pregnant again! God also has a huge part in all of this, and I would’ve given up so long ago if it wasn’t for him and just believing in the fact I am suppose to be a mom 💖🙏🏼 Let me know if you have any more questions! I’d love to help 🥰

My family has hashimotos and I went to the doctor to have them check to see if I had it. The doctor didn't want to check for it because my symptoms were more hyperthyroid than hypo, and according to many doctors hashimotos = hypothyroidism. Well, the test came back positive, I have hashimotos. Hashimotos isn't just hypo, it goes back and forth between the two because your immune system is attacking the thyroid, so it fluctuates. That's what makes it so hard to treat hashimotos. Ok my rant is done.

Quick question Marc!🤓 I just turned 43 and I am doing an IUI. If I get pregnant, then I will stop ovulating during that pregnancy. Does that mean I’m buying my remaining eggs 9 months or so of time?? Because if I’m not ovulating that means I’m not releasing my eggs which means I’m not lessening my egg inventory, correct?? Asking because my numbers are decent for my age and I’d like to have 2 kids. So hoping that time itself won’t be hindering my chances to try again, since the 1st pregnancy would delay the depletion of my eggs. At least I’m hoping. Any insight is appreciated!! 🙏🏻😊

Dr. Sklar, I have had my thyroid tested, the Endocrinologist says it's normal. All my other tests come back normal and I have a regular cycle, but I have had 2 miscarriages. Doctor's keep telling me to keep trying, my last miscarriage was Jan 2020. I take my prenatal vitamins, exercise and maca which has been a great help. I am more naturalistic person, but I could use any advice or information to get pregnant and have no more miscarriages..
