I loved this calculator. Placed mine in a desk, I walked away for 20 seconds and someone stole it. I had it for 10+ years by then and helped me through my engineering and MBA degrees. I would love to get my hands on one again.

The best calculator for electronic polar to rectangular conversions, period. My circuit analysis instructor was always wondering how I got the answer so fast.

The best non-graphing calculator I have ever owned. This was my calculator in engineering school. Love the feel of the keys - there was never any second guessing whether or not the intended key press was registered. Can’t get that with current calculators. The dot-matrix display eventually failed (the most common problem with this calculator) and sadly they don’t make these anymore. Would love to have it repaired if possible or have TI resurrect this model with a more robust display connection.

Yeah I agree the keys feel good for a TI. Probably the closest modern TI is the TI-30 MathPrint, although it doesn't have nearly the same capabilities around formula storage and alpha capability.

I find these from time to time at thrift stores. They are excellent calculators.

I first had the cousin TI-60X and eventually got the TI-68 later (1993 keyboard - plastic frame). It takes a while to get used to the many shift keys (2nd, 3nd, INV, ALPHA). The TI-68 may be a spiritual predecessor to the TI-36X Pro (I wish the 36X Pro kept its ability to do trig and logs with complex numbers).

I agree! I used a TI-68 in middle school up until replacing it with a TI-85 (and then an 86), which was much more fun because of programming, but still kept the 68 around for light-weight stuff. When I acquired a TI-36X Pro in recent years, I recall thinking it was a modern version of the TI-68. I wish the TI-36X had TI-BASIC and connectivity. For those not caring for graphing, it would be a sweet programmable compact calculator.

I have this one also, it appears that there were 2 versions, the earlier one with a metal bezel. Later they replaced it with a plastic bezel (i think you have this). Anyway for my eyes, the contrast depends on the light incidence... sometimes i can't find the best view angle. Also this is a TI without blinking cursor...

Still got mine, sadly the display has failed, but I may try to revive it…

It is a common problem I am afraid.

@@CalculatorCulture Mine has exactly the same dead pixel columns as yours. Looks like a tricky fix, too -- the ribbon cable to the display looks properly attached at both ends, but the pixels come back when it's flexed. I suspect the tracks themselves because of a sharp kink in the ribbon, but it's hard to tell which ones -- much less figure out how to fit repair wires.

There's a guy with a fix-it video for the ti82/ti83 with the same problem. Basically, he opens it up and runs a cool soldering iron across the ribbon cable where it connects to the board. I just tried it with a 68 that had more pixels out than working. It's now like new perfect.

Thank you. Can you make a video on the Casio fx-5800P program calculator released in 2006? It is still being manufactured, and used mainly in Japan and parts of Asia.

Sure. Yeah I have a fx5800p.

@@CalculatorCulture Thank you! I have one and learning to use it. I used it to program tedious transmission line calculations which use complex numbers. Greetings from India. You see here in Asia, people hardly use, or even know about TI or HP calculators. I have never seen a TI, but use the Free42.

I have got one of this, and the screen has several pixels not running, it is a real pity. How could I fix them? Suppose Texas Instruments won't hold on with customer attention anymore...

Sorry I can't be off much help but I haven't come across anyone who fixes old TI calculators unfortunately. Its particularly.sad about the Ti-58/TI-59 which was a very important calculator but very hard to find working examples of now.

There are some fairly good images of the 68 on Eddie’s calculator blog edspi31415.blogspot.com/2017/07/retro-review-texas-instruments-ti-68.html

Maybe mention power requirements/battery type in your videos? (I believe the TI-68 uses CR2032 but not 100% sure since I don't have one yet.)
@CalculatorCulture

Yeah it uses a single CR2032.
