Despite being a pretty good song ,this song is excluded from school curriculum plus Vietnamese people hardly heard or even know about the existence of this song. Why, you may ask? Although the song composer is a Vietnamese communist, somehow the song was selected to become the official anthem of the South Vietnamese government ( anti communist ally of the USA) because that the best patriotic song they could find without mentioning how great it was to kill American or glorifying uncle Ho and communist ideology. I'm telling you guys this as a Vietnamese, currently celebrating our independence day(from the French) 2/9

I really love this song, Lưu Hữu Phước created a lot of bangers. It just sucks that the South got to it first and decided to take it for themselves and now that's all the song is known for even though the lyrics aren't exactly the same as the South's anthem. but if that never happened, I could see this song being a strong contender for the anthem spot or just an anthem that could have been (like Mười Chín Tháng Tám) the song really caught my attention with "Nhìn non sông nát tan" and "Nhìn Muôn dân khóc than" It just perfectly described what the Vietnamese people were going through back then. Man... I really love this song, I just wish there is a way to redeem it for something it never did.

Factos: If you listen to the anthem of South Vietnam or Republic of Vietnam and compare that to this song, you may find similarities between the two. This song was composed by the late Vietnamese composer named Luu Huu Phuoc (🇻🇳: Lưu Hữu Phước). However, South Vietnam used this song without Luu Huu Phuoc's consent and made it as their own anthem with altering the lyrics. Not to mention Luu Huu Phuoc adhered to communism and he also protested the unauthorized use of this song from South Vietnam. So basically, a country whose political ideology was anti-communism stole a song composed by a communist and made it as their own anthem, pathetic.

yeah south vietnam got copyrighted for its anthem and paid the consequences for not listening to the vietcong. i also hate how they stole the song from the commies and couldnt make/use their own. it wouldve been better if they used "viet nam viet nam" or "viet nam minh chau troi dong," 2 very excellent songs which wouldve been a perfect candidates for a replacement of TGCD
