This song was composed when the composer who was a soldier was injured in Vietnam war. This song was first released in 1970 to commemorate Uncle Ho who had died in 1969. Although Uncle Ho had passed away, our soldiers kept on fighting and eventually, we united our country in 1975. At the present, Vietnam is a independent, peaceful and fast-growing country. As being a Vietnamese, I'm so proud of our ancestors who sacrificed a lot for our present happiness.

@@bonktonk74 Imma call cap on that considering the US literally bombed entire swathes of the countryside and the whole war was fighting the peasantry and working class of the country. The war was started under false pretenses and was propping up a US puppet government that the Vietnamese people were fighting against. I consider every civilian and soldier who died past the point that the South Vietnam puppet government would have fallen on their own to be squarely on the shoulders of the US who extended the war past when it would have normally ended. Also, your numbers do not include the South Vietnam military and state's civilian killings, which are part of this, and also assume that the people who were classified as enemy combatants actually were enemy combatants, which is hard to determine when you are literally the people of a country. It also fails to include bombing victims during the war in Cambodia and Laos as well as 400k deaths from Agent Orange. This all doesn't include the fact that the whole war was based on the Gulf of Tonkin lie and was completely unnecessary if the US didn't decide to protect its imperialist interest in the area. The South Vietnamese government was about to be defeated before the US intervened and they had no business involving themselves in Vietnamese internal affairs. The US are not the good guys here, and there's no use muddying the waters.

@k. By the end of the Vietnamese Civil War, those who would benefit from a Communist Vietnam had more important issues. For one Khrushchev wasn't keen on supporting the Ho Chi Minh, he wanted a two state solution to the war, while his successor Brezhnev supported Vietnam he didn't rule over the country and he couldn't exercise his power over it either since he was engaged in an internal power struggle and once he got out on top of the Soviets became embroiled in the War in Afghanistan, the Viets have slipped their mind. Similarly in China the Cultural Revolution was in full swing so newly unified Communist Vietnam was largely left to it's own devices and even today Vietnam is seen more as a China aligned independent country rather than a puppet of the rising China which speaks volumes about their sovereignty. In comparison South Vietnam's resistance consisted of a French puppet regime headed by the notoriously unpopular Emperor who ruled during the colonial days and then came the RVN which was just as much of a dysfunctional puppet show propped by the US. Just look at the kind of support both regimes got from their benefactors, North Vietnam got Soviet military aid during the best of times and nothing when Khrushchev cut support, meanwhile the US continuously dictated the South's internal and external policies in all matters and the South saw an unbroken flood of economic aid as well as direct military assistance, it was essentially an American front and once the US withdrew their complete and unconditional support, the several decades long struggle ended rather quickly.

There're two things Ingen has (deliberately or unintentionally) forgot: 1. "Civil war" is definitely not the right way to describe the Vietnam War, even if it's mainly carried out by the North Vietnamese/Viet Cong or the South Vietnamese. Someone may argue that both sides were supported by Soviet Union/China and US respectively, but while the Eastern Bloc's support is almost completely restricted in technical and logistics, the US interference was much more broad that it dominated all aspects of life in South Vietnam, from economy, culture, social affairs to military operations. Therefore, the Paris Agreement had effectively put an end to the South Vietnamese regime, because it wouldn't be able to fight against any uprising and/or offensive conducted by NVA/VC without fire support and field forces from the US. To sum up, this war is completely a struggle of Vietnamese people against the America and an US-backed, corrupted and illegitimate state. 2. From 2:10, it can be seen that the Paracel (Hoàng Sa) and Spratly (Trường Sa) Islands has been excluded from the Vietnamese flag map. This may be blamed to the fact that North Vietnam/VC hadn't controlled them until the end of VNW, but Vietnamese sovereignty at Paracel and Spratly Islands must be reminded.
@AntonyMaridakis2 жыл бұрын
It is poetic justice my friend. You fought your ally (America) to give power to your enemy_thru_history (China). And all that for what? So that your compatriots can be black marketers for dollars...... (I used to live in the communist block and saw first-hand) Now your "comrades" are swallowing your islands one by one and you can not do anything. Or are you gonna join AUKUS to fight China now??? hahahahah!!!! That would be full-circle happy end...... 2 million dead in the war, just to join America again half a century later. Goes a long way to show you how short sighted people can be.
@nguyenthanhduong6022 жыл бұрын
@@AntonyMaridakis Actually we are currently having no "ally" at all, because we're now calling them "partners". But the US has been our "ally" since when? 😹 Anyway, what's more important is both America and China has stabbed us in the back since the war (the Battle of Paracel Islands, you know). Moreover, both of two powers actually wanted Vietnam to be divided permanently (just like N. and S. Korea :v), and China wanted a buffer zone just like NK to deal with threats from US allies in the ASEAN, while Americans demanded for an "outpost" to stop the domino effect which would spread communism across Asia. Therefore, we wouldn't fight to give power to anyone, and if you can see now, we're rather carrying out "swinging" (more exactly, "dancing") diplomacy to maintain a balance position between powers, which will ensure a long period without war and make way for socio-economical developments, in order to make Vietnam a developed country and a power before the WWIII (maybe 50 years later from now on). On one day, we may have to choose a side, but now it's obviously not our concern.

This is probably the rarest version of this song, I know another orchestral version of this song as well, it isn't powerful and as massive as this, but delicate nonetheless. It reminisence some theme from this recording version too : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ruCol6xktqq6hIk.html . You can say this version is powerful, showing the willingness and strong motivation to the people, while the version from the link i added here is more sincere and delicate

The Vietnam War/American War will always be a focal point of my interest and life. My mother's family fled South Vietnam in February 1975, just a few months before Saigon fell. Yet while I despise communism and the North for what they did following the war, I do not feel the same animosity towards the people and soldiers of the North. They fought for their home, their people, and to me communism was the banner that would truly advance Vietnam as a whole. I have the utmost respect for Bac Ho in uniting Vietnam after years of being colonized and subjugated, even if he himself could not see that dream come true. Greetings from the states and a first generation Vietnamese-American.

@@KZ-sm7le It is because the puppet government apparatus and the United States have propagated communism as bad and slanderous. They must have been afraid of being bloodbathed, but those who stayed behind were surprised to be sent into the re-education camp and then out very quickly. We were very benevolent not to kill or torture them unlike the French did to the people who had been in the area occupied by German
