This video is all about coral care tips for Acanthophyllia. So what kind of tank is Acanthophyllia best suited for? I see it as a show stopper piece in a super high end collector’s LPS dominated tank. They have a beautiful mix of size, color, pattern, and have really cool feeding behaviors. Let’s get into the Acanthophyllia coral care tips.

Just starting out on our first coral reef tank and planning to get one or two of these corals at some point. This is one of the most informative & helpful videos on this topic I’ve seen, just like all the other ones you’ve made. Thanks for these great videos, and will likely buy some corals from you guys when we’re ready for them this Spring. 👍

It's a dream of mine to get one of these corals to sexually reproduce. Not necessarily for the money but more for sustainability reasons. I believe sourcing as much as we can from sustainable aquaculture is a key part of being a responsible reefer. Richard Ross did a great presentation on getting coral to spawn in captivity and a lot of the unknowns behind it.

Great video! Really interesting about frozen rotifers. I culture live ones so I think I'll try them and see what happens. I never would have thought of feeding them to acanthophyllia. I really gotta get another one in the hopes of seeing them spawn. I've had several different corals spawn in my tank. A big reason why I was willing to pay $$$ for this coral is we have no idea how much longer they will be readily available. They aren't hard to find now but it's going to be expensive.
@tidalgardens

I heard that they are technically "old stock" that exporters had in inventory and are not allowed any new collections. If that is the case and it is enforced, they may not be available long term.

Yeah, I'm not touching these. Anything that is super fleshy with a spiky skeleton just dies for me. When it comes to LPS, I basically only do euphyllia and elegances because that what survives lol. Acros and softies only until I get deeper pockets and a different tank.

Also, is there anywhere I can get Caribbean coral?
@Cavegeckosol
@Cavegeckosol 3 жыл бұрын
Sadly, all stony Caribbean corals are on CITES, and illegal to transport across international lines. You can do rock flower anemones, ricordea floridas, photosynthetic gorgonians and a ton of halimeda algae, tunicates, and sponges. That is the closest way to get the "look" without access to stonies.

@@palmtree1144 that sounds really cool if it is legal. I would refer to your own state's WRA for specifics. I only know about my own state's laws (which, Tennessee is landlocked lol), and nationwide laws.

All stony corals in the Caribbean are illegal to collect so they they will probably never come to the hobby. There are some soft corals, however, that come from the Caribbean that are allowed to be collected: Ricordea, zoanthids, gorgonians, RFAs etc
