After a little over a week later of my kitties using the new Breeze XL litter system I'm still pleased with my purchase. I hope these reviews are helpful to those considering this system for their fur babies. (And yes, this is an unsponsored, unaffiliated, impartial review.)
Enjoy! 😸😸😸

Thank you so much for a comprehensive video of this system. We have been trying to decide on whether to get one or not and you definitely made that decision for us. It looks awesome! We have a big boy too - 19 lbs. and a tiny girl as well, so it should be perfect for us. Thanks again for doing such a great job to show how this works and also on how to use the wipes to keep it clean between times. Toby is so beautiful by the way. Take care!

Great review. A lot of written reviews didn't talk about the maintenance of this system, so this helped me get a better understanding of what I'm getting into. The pellets they list are expensive, but it looks like we don't need to replace them often.
@TheArtymuse

I'm glad it helped! Yes, about the only time I need to change out ALL the pellets is if one of my kitties has diarrhea. Otherwise, they stay pretty clean, and I add clean pellets just to top it up and replace what gets thrown away with scooping. I've also received comments from other people who decided to use cheap pine pellet litter instead. I tried it too, and it works, but since the pine pellets break down when they get moist, I ended up doing more maintenance cleaning up all the sawdust from the litter pan grate and the floor around the box.

We had the pellets forever. Switched to a pine and bought the purple lavender pads to go into the spill bay. Not once in a year has there been any pee on the pad itself. The pee absorbed into the pine and creates a saw dust that falls right on the pad. Just pull the pad out and your done. $6 bag of organic pine for 40lbs vs $20 for 3.5 lbs.
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the pine is a big money saver. My only hang up with it is when the saw dust gets stuck in the grate of the litter pan. Doesn't really effect the functionality but it can trap and exacerbate the urine odor if it doesn't get cleaned out often.

@@ashleydavies3374 Hi! I usually go with Feline Pine because most pet supply store carry it (in the U.S. at least) and it is cheap. www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/feline-pine-cat-litter You could probably get away with using the recycled paper pellets (like Yesterday's News) as well, but they absorb liquid even faster than the pine and kind of defeat the purpose of the draining tray feature. Hi! I know your comment was about a year ago, but I wanted to share a suggestion that a lot commenters have given me on these videos. To save $ on the pee pads a lot of people suggested filling the tray with those cheap pine litter pellets. Or lifting the green inner pan and putting a plastic litter box liner bag under it in the base filled with the pine pellets. Supposedly holds more, lasts longer, and controls odor better. Also, more environmentally friendly. 😉 Anyway, just thought I'd share since I scrolled across your comment again. Take care!

I use pine pellets with the regular litter breeze the only difference is that I don’t use pads I just empty the drawer out by scooping out the saw dust daily. I have one litter breeze for five cats. As long as the drawer gets emptied out everyday you don’t have to worry about the saw dust over flowing. I’ve reas that others remove the drawer and place a little box under the system to avoid having to empty the saw dust every day as well as placing a puppy pad under to make clean up easier.

@@marlene8466 I just switched to the pine because my husband's nose is so sensitive he could smell it if there was nothing. What I did is bought the huge box of puppy pads for like 10$, and laid it along the bottom of the breeze, where the normal pad would go, but it's big enough it comes out of the sides. That way I can just take off the top, shake it a little, and lift up the 4 corners to clean, then replace with a new oversized pad. Of my 4 cats I think at least 1 is just not liking this new system, deterred by the smell of the pine. I hope she comes around

Congrats on the new little family member! I find it to be much cleaner than traditional litters. Since there is no clumping they won't be digging through those clumps, getting junk stuck under their claws and paws. Then tracking that all around the house. You'll probably want to empty out and deep clean the system every few months to prevent any residue build up and keep odor to a minimum. I've been wanting to do one more video showing how I deep clean it, but life has been a little crazy. @@SimplyyMichaell I've had some other comments mention their cats playing with the pellets or picking them up in their mouth. Not many, but a couple. Tends to happen more with kittens and younger cats. If they do it a lot, I would recommend using a pine or paper pellet for a while to get them used to pellet litter first. The pine and paper pellets will break down if accidentally swallowed, but the Breeze pellets don't and could cause some issues. Once the box loses its "new" smell and kitty is used to it you should be able to switch back to the Breeze pellets. Pine pellets are cheap and great at odor control. You'll have some saw dust tracking since they do break down, but it's not as annoying as clay litter tracking. For now, I'd just keep an eye on it and see if the issue persists. Then decide on substituting the pellets if necessary. I keep a bag of pine pellets on hand anyway since they're highly absorbent and I sometimes use them in the pad tray instead of the pee pad. Good luck!

It's been a blessing for my 20lb ginger boy. When he didn't fit all the way in standard boxes he'd mess over the side onto the floor, but that hasn't happened a single time with the XL system. I've noticed that mine also tend to use one box for #1 and another for #2. So I change the pad in one way more often than the other. I will say, if you plan to buy multiple systems then buy them separately since you can open each and get the coupon book out to use on the next one. Best of luck!

AND I've just got some of the pretty pellets too, so I'll put a box of those next to the box of pine pellets. Thank you so much. This really helped.👍👍 The only suggestion I have is, I wish you had left a link to this box because then you would make some money off of each person that goes to buy these boxes (or associated products like maybe a good scoop and things like that) and it would make it easier for US to get to these things. Thank you and again, it's JUST a suggestion. I think people who work hard should be rewarded for their work. And putting a KZfaq video together like you just did took work. Well done, too.

I'm glad the video was able to help you some! Unfortunately, unless Tidy Cats were to sponsor this video I would not benefit from providing purchase links, but I have done so in some of the comments where people asked. 😉 While I purchased system from PetSmart in person it is also available on their website here: tinyurl.com/dypaxcwa or from Chewy.com here: tinyurl.com/cb33mm4m My local PetSmart had the 40lb bags of Feline Pine litter on sale for $10 so I got a couple of those to try with the a Breeze since so many have recommended it. There are pros and cons to pine instead of the zeolite Breeze pellets, a couple being more cleaning, tracking and maintenance involved, but less smell, biodegradable and flushable. If you want to save like $40 and don't absolutely need the high walls of the Breeze XL then you could just try pine pellets in one of those large mortar mix tubs from a hardware store, like this: tinyurl.com/exbz3an8 Either way, I hope you find the best solution for you and your kitty. 😸 If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to get you answers. Hello! The pellets you see in my videos are the Tidy Cats Brand Breeze litter box pellets made especially for this system. A couple bags of it come with the system in the box, but they can be purchased separately. They are made of a natural zeolite mineral and do not break down when exposed to liquid. Instead they facilitate dehydration of kitty's solid waste. They also come in various scents now to help with odor control. You should be able to buy packages of them anywhere the Breeze system is sold. Hope that helps!

I eventually fazed out the black mortar tub of crystal litter, so I'm only using the Breeze systems currently. Just got tired of gritty floors. Moving into a smaller area, you'll probably want to focus on odor control. I find that the systems that separate the liquid from solid waste tend to be best at that. I also find pellet litters to be easier to clean up after and I'm less likely to miss a spot when cleaning floors since they're much bigger than little litter granules. You could also make an active air/odor control filter shell to go over your litter box; no matter the kind you decide to go with. You could make it of card board, but some thin hobby wood will stand up better if kitties decide to lounge on it. Maybe make a little bench out of it with a cushion on top? Anyway, you can attach a cheap CPU fan or flat desk fan to an opening on the side and have it pull the air from the litter box through one of those carbon air filter pads. If you go with the Breeze XL system there is enough space in the base under the litter tray to lay down one or two of those odor absorbing solids, like Citrus Magic brand; cheap and effective. Glad you liked Toby's live demo! 😂 Hope you found this info helpful! Good luck on the move.

@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear! I usually wipe down the inside of the litter pan and the walls piece at least weekly or as needed with Clorox wipes. I just shift all the pellets to one side, clean that side, then shift them to and clean the other side so I don't have to dump them. Some cleaning solutions are toxic to cats so I recommend googling, "is (product) toxic to cats" before using. However, you could also just wipe or rinse anything you clean with chemicals with water really well afterwards to be safe. I do take the whole system apart every other month or so and rinse it all down in the shower or outside with a hose. That's when I'll also replace all the pellets. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this good review of the product. But how is it with the cat's paw? My chunky 20 pounder boy used crystals before but what we found is that his paws were peeling and becoming raw for digging. That's the reason why we moved him to clay litter just because it is more forgiving to his paw.

@TheArtymuse 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply. Been using the Breeze systems for about 2 years now and I haven't seen any negative effects on my kitty's paws. The crystal litter can be kind of powdery and I can see how that powder could dry out their toe pads and the sharp edges scrape at them. But the Breeze pellets are a very solid mineral and do not break down and degrade like crystal or clay litter. So no powder or dusty residue. They're shaped like little cylinders and tumbled so all the edges are rounded off. I do not miss cleaning all the litter dust off my furniture. Hope that helps!

Btw great review, I'm adopting ragdoll kitten next month. Consider they're quite large once grow into the adult size, do you think the original breeze box would last for at least a year or two before the upgrade or should I just start with the XL? Thanks

Hi! I'm glad you found it helpful. I haven't heard of anyone using beans, but it sounds expensive and I'm not sure how great they'd absorb odors. I've only used pine pellets other than the Breeze zeolite pellets and found pros and cons for both. Breeze pellets have pretty good odor control and a miniscule amounts of tracking and clean up. Zero dust! About $9 for a 3.5lb bag and I use at least three in the XL system, which will last about 2-3 months before I replace them (so about $27 every 2-3 months on litter). Could be a choking hazard for kittens who like to play in their litter since they don't break down. Not really flushable. Pine pellet litter has great odor control and is very cheap and easy to buy in big bulk bags. You want to be sure it's pine pellet litter specifically for cats because they process the pine oil out of it since it's toxic for cats if ingested. It can be kind of messy since the pellets break down into saw dust and will track onto the floor like crazy after a few users, but it's extremely absorbent and lasts a pretty long time as well. You can even use it in the under-tray instead of pee pads to be more environmentally friendly. Conveniently flushable in small amounts. I like to recommend pine or paper pellets for people with kittens, at least until the grow out of playing with and mouthing their litter since they're organic and break down in case they're ingested. My 13lb short hair kitties are fine with using the smaller Breeze system, but there have been a few rare accidents where poop falls on the rim or over onto the floor, but the hooded version may help with that. Personally, I'd go with the XL up front anyway so you don't have to buy it later if you think the breed your getting will get bigger than 15lbs. Also, in case your kitty is just picky about small boxes like my older one was. Honestly, for a kitten, I'd go with a super cheap high-sided traditional box under $10 with pine or paper pellet litter to start. Then, as they grow and you see what their bathroom habits are, you'll know best what will work for them. Hope that wasn't too long! Best of luck to you and feel free to ask me any other kitty questions. 😺

@@TheArtymuse Oh wow! Thank you so so much for the wonderful tips! I came across the beans suggestion while reading the reviews on the breeze system haha! Also a few people mentioned they caught their kitties eating the breeze pallets which is concerning to me as I don't want the kitten to choke on them and/or develop bowel blockage from accidentally or unknowingly ingested them while I'm not at home. I thought either beans or the pine pellets would be a good substitute (plus cheaper). I just reached out to the breeder today and she confirmed that the kitten is being trained on using pine pellets so I guess I'll start off with using that before transitioning him into using something else but it definitely sounds like one of the most cost effective and healthier options. Really like your suggestion on using a cheaper litter box (I'll try to get one with the sifting feature) and monitor his bathroom habits before getting the breeze system in XL depends on how quickly he'll grow into the size where he needs a larger box. Again, thank you so much for the feedback 😺

Hi! If your cat isn't used to chunky pellet litter you'll probably want to slowly get them used to it. I started by mixing pine litter pellets in with their clumping litter. Whenever I scooped I added more pellets until it was almost entirely pellets. Meanwhile I set up the Breeze system next to their old box. Once they were used to the pellet litter I stopped cleaning the old box and they naturally switched to using the clean Breeze box with it's ceramic pellets. I kept their old box nearby for a couple months just to make sure they didn't have any accidents since some cats have really sensitive paw pads and don't like chunky/pellet litter at all. I was lucky mine were all fine with it. Luckily the Breeze has a money back guarantee so if you find that it's just not working for you you can return it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Welcome! Since the pellets do not break down there is literally zero dust; a big reason I switched. You can probably use any kind of doggy poop bags, but I like getting the modern kanine box of 160 bags from my local pet supply store. It's only about $7. It keeps pretty much all the smell in for a couple days. Eventually the waste starts to break down and off-gas and that's when I tie it closed and toss it. Hi! I've gotten many comments about using pine pellet litter, like feline pine. I've tried it with the Breeze in a few ways too... in place of the pads in the tray, in place of the zeolite breeze pellets in the box, and both together. I don't like using pine in the upper litter box because it breaks down into sawdust with moisture and clogs up the drain grate area. But it works pretty well down in the pad tray and is a good, cheap alternative to the pads if you want a more eco friendly option. Though it's a bit messier to clean up when it breaks down into sawdust.

@TheArtymuse 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you. The walls on the XL system are significantly higher than the regular system, but the designated entryway is a pretty low step where a "digger" could fling the pellets out. My ginger boy is kind of a digger, but even he doesn't tossed that many pellets out of the box. You could build a diy top entry cover to go over the whole system if you were inclined. That would be very effective keeping all the pellets inside the box if your cat is okay with top entry boxes. The breeze does have a satisfaction guarantee so it couldn't hurt to see if it works better than your current system. Good luck!

My guy’s a digger, too, raquel101. With the normal sized Breeze or even the wonderful NVR-Miss for large cats (tall sides with an opening in the middle on the long side), he was big enough that he stepped partly or mostly out of the box to do his digging. I’d end up with a cup or litter or more ion the floor - or dozens of Breeze pellets, too - as he’d scoop ant litter out of the box towards where he was standing. The problem went away with the XL size. With the box being roomy enough for him to fully enter and fully stand inside as he scooped, all the litter now stays in the pan. It’s bigger, yes. But beautiful, and well worth the investment. PS. If you don’t switch, though, I found turning entrances inward, towards the wall, discouraged his wayward scooping!

Hi Beth! The XL system fits parallel in my standard size bathtub with room to spare. You may want to remove the side walls piece though as the "entrance" gets blocked by the wall of the tub. It wouldn't fit in the tub if you tried to turn it 90° so the entrance is accessible--if that makes sense. Something else you could try would be to make a tall, bottomless, wood top entry box to fit over the whole unit. If your kitty will use top entry, I've found that worked really well for my boy kitty who tends to miss while using a regular box. Best of luck to you!

i have the original breeze system and have always used the pine pellets with it. works great. you can get a big 40 lb. bag of pine pellets at tractor supply for $5.99. although these pellets are designed for horses- it does say on the package you can use them for smaller animals as well = like cats and guinea pigs. the main difference between feline pine and these - these pellets are little harder and tougher- obviously to withstand the weight of a horse- but the pellets will breakdown into sawdust almost immediately - you just rake and the sawdust falls onto the pad below. @@TheArtymuse the thing with the pine pellets is as soon as they get wet they turn to saw dust, they never actually get saturated with anything. You obviously have to remove the solids daily or whatever your schedule is, but the liquid never really makes it past the top. You sit out the sawdust, then everything that is left in the box is essentially still fresh clean litter, so there is no need to ever change out the whole thing again, unless you wanna deep clean it. Thanks for the video. Question: how hard are the pellets? I have a senior gal and she uses the pine pellets is there much difference between the two?
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The shape and size of the Breeze pellets is comparable to all of the pine pellet litters I've seen, but the Breeze pellets are much harder being made out of compressed mineral (mordenite zeolite). I can pretty easily crush a Breeze pellet under the heel of my shoe, but they are not made to absorb and crumble like pine pellets. They merely facilitate the drying out of solid waste and let the liquid pass through the tray to the pee pad below. Breeze pellets have a smoother surface and are heavier than pine so they stick less to fur and track less outside of the litter box. There are pros and cons to both, so preference really relies on your priorities. I find the Breeze pellets to be easier to clean up and maintain, but pine has superior odor control and is really cheap and conveniently flushable. You could also use the Breeze pellets in the upper tray and pine pellets below instead of a pee pad since they are so absorbent and more environmentally friendly than the plastic backed pee pads. Hope that helps! Good luck 🐈

@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
HI! Unfortunately clumping litter will not work with this system since it is designed to function by letting the urine drain through the inner pan to be absorbed by the pee pad below. Pellet litter is used because smaller litters will just fall through the drainage area and clumping litter would clog up the grate. It's best to get your cat used to a pellet litter, like recycled paper or pine, by mixing it into their current litter more and more. Once they're going on mostly pellets, set up the Breeze system next to their old box and stop cleaning their old litter box. Kitty should naturally migrate to using the new, cleaner Breeze system. I guess you could use clumping litter in the pee pad tray instead of the pad, but that can be a litter messier to clean up when it comes time to change it out. Hope that helps!

These Breeze boxes unnecessarily bulky and complicated. If you want an ATTRACTIVE extra large sifting litter box for pine litter, just buy 2 extra large SoPhresh pans at Petco, available in beige. They are approximately 22" x 17" x 5". Drill 1/4 inch holes at the bottom of one of them about 5/8" apart. You don't need a 3rd pan, nor do you need puppy pads - these are a waste of money. In order to reinforce the 5/8 inch gap between both pans, I use 4 canning jar lids between the sifter and the bottom box. After 3 days, I gently lay the sifter box (with litter inside) down on my litter matt (leaves no mess!) and take the bottom box to my big round kitchen trash can where I use a paper towel to push the sawdust into the trash. Takes 30 seconds of my time.

Or will that type of litter fall through the grates?
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the move! I hope it goes smoothly. You do get a bag of pellets with the purchase of the Breeze system (small) and two bags with the XL, but I have had people tell me that kittens may play with and sometimes swallow the pellets. So if you do try the Breeze system I'd recommend using the pine or paper pellets litter in it instead. I usually recommend those for kittens anyway since they're organic and safer in case they do get ingested by the kitten while grooming or playing. Pine and paper pellet litter will also be cheaper then the replacement Breeze pellets, though you will need to change them out and clean the litter box more frequently since they're absorbent and will break down after a while. Once your kitten grows up some and you can see they have no issues with the pine/paper pellets, I'd switch to the Breeze pellets for easier maintenance. Some of the chunkier crystal litter might work, but most will fall right through the grate in the litter pan since the slits are just narrow enough to hold the pellets back. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions. 😸

I found that you can use those litter box liner bags to line the lower base to catch all the sawdust if you want to go with a pine pellet, and it makes clean up very easy. Another method I have tried is to use a regular solid litter pan in place of the gray base to collect the liquid waste. @TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Courtney! I try to check back occasionally for comments since many people have questions. I own 3 Breeze boxes and my kitties like to pee in one more than the others so it always smells stronger. I've got a few tips that might work out for you. 1) the Breeze XL has a lot of empty space in the bottom by the tray, so I'll stick one or two odor absorbers in there, like these: Citrus Magic Pet Odor Absorbing Solid Air Freshener, Pack of 3, 8-Ounces Each www.amazon.com/dp/B00DZKHCQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_HKDMQ13H4R9MXMF6XMNJ 2) the pellets will gradually get darker over time as kitty keeps peeing on them and the bag recommends replacing them every month, but I try to make them last as long as possible. So I use a natural litter box deodorizing spray (I like the one made by Skout's Honor) to mist the pellets and around the box. 3) I've had a lot of comments recommending the use of cat-safe pine pellets instead of the zeolite Breeze pellets. Some people even put the pine pellets down in the tray instead of the pee pad. I've been trying it for a few months now in one of my boxes and it definitely helps with the smell, but it does increase maintenance and litter tracking (which were big reasons I switched to the Breeze in the first place). 4) if you want to try cleaning and reusing the zeolite Breeze pellets, definitely use a cat urine enzyme destroying cleanser and let them dry thoroughly before putting back in the box. I definitely recommend giving 1 and 2 above a shot first. While the pine pellets are very good at odor control, they start to get messy once a lot of them break down into sawdust. But if the box is easy to sweep up around then it may be a sacrifice worth making. ***One last note: a cats urine is a good indicator of their health. Yes, cat pee is supposed to be smelly, but it is also a good idea to have your vet check it occasionally for possible UTIs and other conditions that could make it smellier. Best of luck on finding a solution that works for you! 😸

Regarding crystal litter, do you need to scoop urine? and is it better than breeze one?
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
Most Crystal litters don't clump the urine for scooping. They're supposed to neutralize the ammonia and hasten evaporation. You just scoop the poop and "mix" the litter to disperse any wet spots until you eventually dump it all and start again. I do prefer the chunky crystal litter over the fine kind because it is less dusty and doesn't stick to paws as much. Between Crystal litter and the Breeze, I prefer the Breeze because I don't need to replace the pellets as often as I had to replace all the Crystal litter. Plus, much less tracking and kitty doesn't have to step on or dig in any wet spots since the Breeze pan drains onto the pad tray below.

Hi! I'm not certain what you mean by urine dust. The mineral sediment in the cat's urine? Coming straight from the cat, pretty much everything drains through to the pad tray below, but I have noticed, after having the systems for several years, that mineral deposits will build up on the green inner litter tray. And the pellets are meant to be changed out and disposed of, rather than cleaned. Does that help?

It has definitely been cheaper for me. I go through a lot less a litter since the pellets do a pretty good job drying out the solid waste and not many stick to the waste when I scoop it out so I'm not throwing away much besides the actual poop and pee pads. The pads I change out about every 7-10 days depending on how they look and smell. Some people have even said they switched to using pine pellets to cut costs even further.

these were some reviews, and i was wondering if you could address them: 1. The problem with this version is that the part that holds the litter just sits on top of the main base. It doesn't clip on or anything. What it means is if it's not perfectly aligned the pee can leak around the pad and fill the base, instead of the removable tray. It means I have to take the whole thing apart every few weeks and clean it out. Not easy to do given the size. The whole thing ends up being a mess.
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I haven't experienced that issue with any of my systems; I have the one original size and two XLs. The green inner pan has a "lip" around the edge that rests on the top of the base piece. This keeps the grated drainage area pretty well aligned over the pee pad tray. The top wall piece goes over the edges of the green inner pan and base keeping everything in alignment. The top wall of the smaller original size even has snaps on the sides that clip it down. The top of the XL just has a really deep "lip" around the bottom that caps over the sides and prevent any seepage if kitty likes to pee against the wall. If you're getting leaks into the base your system might have a defect. However you could try remedying it by getting those plastic litter pan liner bags and putting one down in/over the base before setting the green inner pan over it. Then to save on buying the pee pads, you could just fill the litter pan liner with some cheap pine pellet litter to absorb the urine and kill the odor; I've found it to be really effective at that. Then whenever you're ready to clean it just cinch up the litter liner bag, toss it out with the trash and put down a new one filled with some more cheap litter. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi! It'll probably depend on the number of cats using the box and their sizes, but I usually change the pads every 7-10 days. It's easy to pull the tray out a couple inches to check how much the pad has absorbed. So if it still has some dry areas I'll leave it in a couple more days to get the most out of it.

You can change it, when it’s full! There’s absolutely no odor. I’ve even heard of them overflowing if left too long... The smaller pan made it easy it slide a full pad into a small bag w/o touching. It could get very full. Two weeks, even, for one cat. But I found with the XL I couldn’t leave them go as long, as the XL tray is XL, too, and unwieldy. Not so easy to just tip, as before, but needing to grab the two opposite edges, instead...

Thanks so much for the part2. I’m using a traditional litter box. My 7 month kitten’s fur gets wet sometimes after he pees. And he likes to pee towards the side of the litter box. The video shows that the holes are only in the middle of the box so does it mean the pee can’t get thru to the pads if he pees on the sides ?
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your comment. Although the holes are located in the middle, the green pan is shaped so that any area without holes is sloped towards the holes to let liquid waste be directed and drained out onto the pee pad tray below. So even if your kitty pees right up against the white wall barrier it should slide down into the green tray, under the pellets, and through the grated area to the pad below. To lessen the small chance that he'll get wet paws from standing in an area bare of pellets while he goes pee, I would add an extra bag of pellets to the box for better coverage. I've found the Breeze system to be a good solution to messy paws from digging through a used litter box. No more litter clumps stuck under their claws or between their toes. Here's a little diagram of how the box works if it'll help. img.chewy.com/is/image/catalog/205982_PT8._AC_SL1500_V1571666877_.jpg

When do you change the pellets? Or do you?
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 2 жыл бұрын
When they get noticeably smelly or dirty looking. If your cat has firm poop the pellets will stay relatively clean looking for a long while. But if they have runny poop it can be quite a mess and you end up throwing away a lot more of the pellets. The pellets are porous and will absorb the cat's pee, but they dry pretty quickly. I use a natural ingredient urine destroyer spray cleaner from Skouts Honor to spritz the pellets and it helps keeps the smell down so they last longer. You could try cleaning and sun-drying the pellets, rotating batches out, but I don't think it's worth the trouble. Hope that helps!

Hi! I currently have 5 cats and they share 3 litter boxes (2 of the XL systems and 1 of the regular size Breeze systems). I have definitely noticed I spend a lot less money on litter maintenance and supplies. And I don't break my back lugging around huge bags of cat litter anymore or cleaning up granules from the floor constantly. The pee pads are probably the biggest expense with these systems, but many people have commented about using alternatives. One of my favorites has been putting down a litter box liner bag in the bottom tray under the green pan and filling that liner with some cheap pine pellet litter. The pellets absorb the urine and do a decent job of odor control. Then I just cinch up the bag and toss it out when the pellets start getting over saturated and no longer control the smell. Some people even use the pine pellet litter in the top tray as well instead of the Breeze zeolite pellets, but I don't like to do that since they tend to break down and the sawdust clogs up the grate in the pan. I think I saw a good DIY litter box video that may work well for you. I'll look for it and reply with the link later. I wish you the best of luck with whichever method you end up going with. 👍

Hmm, that is odd. There is always some smell when kitty initially goes potty until the solid waste starts to dry. I have three units for four cats and I'm able to change out the pads every 7-10 days. However, not all cats are the same and yours may drink more and pee more than others. I've read some other comments where people used pine pellets in the tray and litter box itself for more absorbance. A nice thing about the XL system is the extra space in the base beside the pad tray. I will usually buy those big flat solid odor absorbers for garbage cans and stick one or two down in the base. I think that helps curb the urine odor. Tidy Cats has also recently released a new type of pellet for the Breeze with increased odor control. And even though you only have one cat using the box, maybe try the pads made for multiple cat homes; they also have increased odor control and absorbency. One last tip, I keep a spray bottle of one of those natural litter box deodorizers nearby the main box my kitties all use and spray it over the box if someone has a really stinky #2 I can't scoop right away. I hope this helps. Also, check out some of the other comments for suggestions. Remember, the Breeze has a 30 day money back guarantee if it just doesn't work out for you. Prior to switching to the Breeze I was having success with chunky crystal litter in a medium mortar mix tub from the hardware store rather than an expensive large litter box. I have the Modkat XL litter box, and am thinking about this one, I don't know if I should switch though, any thoughts? Does the poop smell bad from the type of litter used?
@TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 3 жыл бұрын
I hadn't heard about Modkat before so I checked out the XL on their website. I do like top-entry boxes and I was even thinking of building an outer "shell" for my Breeze XL to make it top-entry. Depending on the type of litter your cat is used to currently (clumping, crystal, or pellet) will determine how quickly and easily they adapt to the Breeze. Since I have a roommate with dogs I have to keep the litter boxes in my room and I do notice the initial smell when they go poop. If I'm home I usually just go scoop it, but if I'm lazy and leave it be for a while the smell usually dissipates after a few minutes of drying out; that'll also depend on your cat's diet and the firmness of their poop. It's usually the contact of pee with poop that causes the worst smell since the moisture builds up. The Breeze separates them; pee falling through to the odor neutralizing pad and the poop getting dried out by the zeolite pellets (they are firm and don't break down like wood or paper pellets). I also noticed my pet store carries the better odor control Breeze pellets now and I really like them. I think it's at least worth giving it a shot since it has a 30-day money back guarantee. Hope this helps!

@@aimreadings I hope it works out for you! My cats were not used to chunky pellet litter at all at first, but I started mixing in recycled paper pellets into their old clumping litter every time I scooped it, until it was almost entirely pellets. I did that over about a month's time and had the Breeze set up next to their old box so they could get used to it with no pressure. From the demo video you can see Toby had no issue using it from the start, but my other cat, Rocket, took a couple weeks to adapt well. I will note, if you have very young kittens it is better to use natural paper or pine pellet litter in case they ingest any since scented and clumping litters can cause them serious medical issues. One other thing I really really like about the Breeze system is that it is really 100% dust free. I was so sick of clay and crystal litter dust everywhere around the boxes. @TheArtymuse
@TheArtymuse 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! The Breeze pellets start out scentless (unless you buy one of the scented types). They will gradually start to smell after a while as they exceed their capacity to absorb and neutralize odors. The instructions recommend replacing them monthly, but I've been able to push it to 3-4 months by doing regular clorox wipe downs of the boxes and having multiple boxes available for my multiple cats. You can also try pine pellets litter (great odor control and cheap), but more clean up involved as it breaks down into saw dust and will track around the house. I used to be terrified of cats until I got the urge to adopt a rescue many years ago. I work long days and didn't think I had enough free time for a dog to take them out for walks and such. Turns out I'm very much a cat person. I have to say, I think having just one cat is more work than two. Especially if you're new to cats and don't quite get how to handle and play with them, having two let's them interact and play with each other until you get the hang of it. They also tend to be less bored or destructive when they have a playmate always available. I recommend checking your local cat rescues for a bonded pair of kitties who already get along well. They'll be more confident, quicker in a new home since they'll be with a known friend. Some rescue groups will even put you in contact with a foster to visit so you can get to know the kitties before adopting and their foster can tell you all about their personalities and favorite toys, activities, food, dislikes, etc. Jackson Galaxy and the Kitten Lady both have very helpful videos here on KZfaq that I recommend watching for any (potential) cat owner. They'll still be very cute and playful, but they'll have mostly outgrown the bitey and dangerously curious phase. Also, the Breeze pellets could pose a choking hazard to young kittens who like to play in litter and mouth at things, since the pellets don't dissolve or break down. If you do get kittens, start with pine or recycled paper pellet litter to be safe. Then when they get a bit older and don't play with litter anymore you can switch to the Breeze pellets. I'm sorry to hear you're having those issues. Sometimes when when a pet's poop is extra smelly it can be an indicator that their diet is off. I had that issue with my first cat (my big orange Garfield of a kitty named Rocket). I thought I was doing well giving him a high protein cat food, but turns out his tummy and bowels are happier with something that contains more veg fiber. That can take a while to diagnose and resolve though. In the meanwhile, maybe try pine pellets in the Breeze instead of the zeolite pellets? I've been experimenting with them thanks to suggestions from other comments. They tend to have a bit better odor control and a lovely woodsy scent. Although I've found clean up to be a little more work; when the pellets break down and fall through the drain grid it can get a bit clogged and the tray fills up faster with all the pine crumbs. It might even be better for you to just go with an extra large regular litter pan (I like using the big mortar mix tubs from the hardware store) and pine pellets or Crystal little specifically for longer hair cats that won't stick to them. Hi! Congrats on the new kitten! Regular clumping or fine crystal litter won't work with the Breeze since it would just fall through the drainage grate, but many people have told me they use regular pine, wheat, and recycled paper PELLET litter with little to no problem. I'd recommend those for a kitten anyway since a kitten might swallow litter either while grooming or playing with it and clumping litter or chemical treated litter can cause internal medical problems. Only drawback I've heard is that the biodegradeable litters break down after absorbing enough urine and you'll need to clean the tray and grate more thoroughly when you replace the litter. But after kitten grows bigger you should be able to change to the Breeze pellets if you do desire without any issues since your kitty would already be used to the pellet shape.

Yeah, a larger grate area would've been nice, but I think they were trying to make it backwards compatible with the existing pee pads. I haven't really noticed too much of an increase in odor between the original box and the XL though. But that could be because I wipe down the inner tray once a week with a Urine Enzyme Destroyer spray. It's pretty easy to just scoot all the pellets to one side, wipe it, then scoot them back. So not too much of a hassle in my opinion. Come to think of it now, the grated area is actually the most difficult area to keep clean because of the narrow slats. So a larger grate area might actually cause more odor because it's harder to clean regularly.

Is it possible to remove the white part?

The white wall that goes on top? Yes, it's a separate piece that sits over the edge of the pieces below. Technically, there are four individual pieces to the unit. The gray base and its removable tray, the green grated litter tray, and the white wall piece.

Hi! Another user (totalbee123) had the same question so happen to have those measurements. 😁 The box dimensions are 26"wide, 18"depth, 14"tall (floor to top of side wall). Also, the "entrance" area in the wall is about 8" wide. Hope that helps!
