I have to make this comment mid-tutorial or I'll forget. I REALLY appreciate you slowing down the video to give us "real time". I'm very new at this and while I realize practice is everything, watching tutorials makes you think you're doing something wrong when we can't just whiz through these folds. It can get frustrating and discouraging when we can't. It took me 45 minutes to spin a simple spiral the other day. I had to realize that it happens to everyone; even the pros. From me and other newbies, thank you for this.

You’re very welcome. I try to give a real life example but also keep the channel successful. There is pressure to make videos faster and shorter because KZfaq puts analytics on each video. It’s not fair. When videos get fast forwarded or clicked off after a few seconds it damages the “algorithm.” There is a lot of behind the scenes that go into ALL of this. I try to remind people that it takes longer than 5-12 minutes to create tie dye, but I admit to forget. A lot of people really only want to see the final result…. it’s thought to please everybody. I try really hard to though. 😊❤️🌈

i find it easier to keep the larger tail end of the piece under control by making some lines at every 10degrees and extend them all the way across the piece. this will work as a rough guide to let you know where the peaks and valleys of the pleats should be. this will also make breaking down pleats and making them smaller, easier

Thank you! The entire time I was watching this back I was thinking if I drew a line from the center out I could slip a dowel under it maybe and fold it that way saving me the 25 minutes of irritation. Those back pleats without splitting them were the tallest I can remember and I was cussing the entire time! Thank goodness for voiceover. 🤪❤️🌈

Your comments whilst folding were hilarious! Yesterday I did a side fan fold on a nightgown and like Scott I was trying to make it perfect but once it got so thick and wide I rolled my eyes and said oh well it’s tie dye! It’s beautiful Steph🙏🏽

Awesome video, Steph! Funny enough, today I folded my first fan fold in MONTHS... it was a struggle... it's a child small and I thought I'd just whip one up... wrong! Glad that you left the video slow as it totally validated my struggle. I had to fold down a sleeve and do my arc on the folded sleeve, so that should be Interesting! ✌️❤️😎

I love to use stormy sky. I usually pair it with other colors but I’m going to try it as a single dye next time. I think it’s prettier all by itself. Thanks for mentioning how much goes into making one design. People don’t realize. I think my customers think it’s just a messy hobby because that’s the experience they have with tie-dyeing. Some tie-dye kit in the backyard as a kid. I will send them this video next time someone complains. All your hard work paid off. Thanks for sharing.

Stormy sky is one of my favorite colors of all time. Pro chem also has dusty purple which is beautiful as an ice dye. It splits like stormy sky. It’s also unexpected. This shirt is gorgeous. I like the combination of the two patterns. I’m going to give this a try tomorrow. ✌🏻

Love this! Do you (or anybody) have any idea what makes the different colors happen? What kind of magic causes some to be green /blue while other areas are the reddish? Is it water volume? Temperature? I am baffled.

I don’t know the exact science, but it’s the ice melting and splitting the components of the dye. One of us needs to mix this as a liquid. I doubt it’s as interesting as it is as an ice dye. I chalk it up to being magic. 😉❤️🌈

Not much. A sploosh per size load. One sploosh for small, two sploosh for medium and so on. The instructions are on the bottles but I don’t follow them. 😃❤️🌈

Something you might want to try is using clothes pins to hold the fan folds as you complete them. And you might want to add how fast you have sped up the folding and tying portion of the video somewhere on the screen.

I understand sticking with it... You don't want it to defeat you! Try this with a different shirt. You can tell in places where you struggle that the shirt was cut wrong... Slightly askew. You know, every once in a while you buy a tshirt that's a little twisty. You can see that when you are working.

So I'm barely getting into ice dye and am dumbfounded on how so many colors were produced from 1 color. Will all non primary colors produce this type of result or is there something special about thus one?

Steph, please, can you explain what do you mean when you said ,,split,, i dont know english and how color can be splited. What does that mean specifically?

With ice dyeing the component colors will “split” out making a variety of colors. Specifically with this color when it’s liquid it’s kind of a gray color. The ice method split it into blues, purples, maroons, greens. I have many ice dyeing videos. If you watch a few you can see & hear me talking about “splits” and it will help you understand better. 😁❤️🌈

@@BelladonnaDyesCo i think i finally understand :) maybe if you mix yellow, magenta, cyan, in one powder, and use that powder with ice, you will get ,,splits,, with many colors, but in solid color, when is that powder disolved in water first you will get gray.

This shirt exactly, no. Ice dyeing is why it looks the way it does. You could certainly use liquid dye but it will look 1000% different. That’s what is fun with dyeing,,, playing around and figuring out what works. ❤️🌈

Yes, it’s all Stormy Sky. The ice dyeing method brought out all of the component colors. In liquid form the color is dark grey. Ice dyeing is a lot of fun because of all of the color splits. ❤️🌈

I have a suggestion Stephanie. Please don’t use yellow markers when filming. It’s hard to see the line that you’re folding. I would appreciate it if you used a darker color. Thank you.
