Timing my “Ian Knot” ranges from a split-second (if you don't time the starting knot) to around two seconds (the complete knot). This video is in response to countless “two seconds” or “one second” shoe tying videos - most of which don't show the whole method.

I've been doing that double Ian Knot tying ever since I've started learning it, since you've already shown it on the detailed Ian Knot video. But it always takes me a bit longer to tie my shoe, even with the Ian Knot, because I always make sure that the laces are tied tightly.

I don't usually want or need my lacing really tight, but when I do, I use my pinkies to keep the starting knot tight.

Try making the loops smaller so that you can press down on the starting knot with your pinkies. Also cross over the starting knot once more to keep the tightness. I have been using the Ian Knot for four years now, and can do it in about 2 seconds, without having to look at my shoes.

Hi professor, I didnt find what kind of shoelaces this is from this tutorial. The double back has the horizontal line and this one from the video doesn't. What kind this is? Thx

I can't remember exactly why it was laced this way, but by the looks of it, I've probably used two short laces anchored separately at each side. The closest match on my website would be “Half & Half Lacing” (Variation 3): www.fieggen.com/shoelace/half&halflacing.htm

From memory, this was done with two short shoelaces, each anchored separately using “Lace Anchors”.

would the fast tying knot lead to granny laces?

If you tie my fast knot exactly as shown, it *won't* lead to a “Granny Knot”. Only if you *reverse* something - such as tying the Starting Knot right-over-left.
