@crimson6172
@crimson6172 3 ай бұрын
@@montyshield8876 That is all fine and good but don't do it at Manchester United. When you're at a big club with big history, your primary responsibility is to train hard and win. If you can't do that, then quit the club and play at a lower level. Otherwise you are just being selfish to the fans. This is the same deal with Maguire. People would LOVE him if he just admits that he's not good enough and goes to a weaker club or league. Of course, now it has changed already. Manchester United is now a commercial club that doesn't compete for trophies anymore. Thanks to this culture of accepting poor players. There is a time and place for everything in football. Some people just need to be aware of that and be less selfish.

My Dad used to call him "100k", a reference to his weekly salary. At the time, he earned more than Salah. He turned down West Ham because they offered him a lower salary. Forest offered him a slightly higher salary on a one year contract. The guy saw contractless Sanchez join United on 500k a week and thought that would be him.

@@mesicek7 sorry, but that is absolutely wrong. Lingard was actually only on £80k basic at forest, the rest was offered in the form of appearance bonuses, which he didn't earn. You have no idea what he was offered at West ham. You also fail to recognise that there was a year in between his west ham loan and joining forest. He sat on the bench during that season and barely made a sub appearance. West ham delayed making an offer for him so he started talking to other clubs. Nottingham is also a lot closer to his home than London.

@@mundolioknows6447 Because he was a free transfer he got a big signing on fee. Remember when everyone were reporting how much Sanchez was earning at utd? 500k a week? It was because of the signing on fee which was calculated into the basic salary. No club will pay millions up front. His base salary at Forest was 120k + signing on fee which was never revealed but i'm almost certain it was at least 1m which comes to around 21k a week more. so he was earning close to 140k a week. He was their most paid player at the time.

@@mesicek7 well according to multiple scources, including forest, his wage was £80k per week. He would have earned the equivalent of £200k if he'd met all the criteria, which he failed to do. Anyway, my general feelings about Lingard was that he was never that great and I don't really care what he did after united. He is entitled to try and earn as much as he can. I don't understand why he got (and still gets)so much abuse. He had a decent career, but has struggled with mental issues and unfortunately for him, his united career happened to be in the post-fergie era when united are a mess.
@gosharan

The Lingard case is a perfect example of poor representation and lack of seriousness: 1. Poor representation: Lingard's agent / brother manages him or atleast used to during his last years at United. When he came back from his super successful West Ham loan, United were ready to sanction a sale. There were suitors too - West Ham were interested among other PL clubs and I believe Lingard was ready to go back. His minders however, kept telling him he was undervalued i.e. needed to be paid more (like over 100k a week) and potentially deserved Champions League football. That seems a bit much for someone who just had a good 4-month spell (you need consistency). The agent also went on record saying that with 1-yr left on his contract "they held all the chips". That is quite ridiculous - so much talent out there and you don't hold chips when you've had the stop-start career Lingard has. So, they squandered that opportunity and he sat on the bench. Even in Jan, they wanted United to send him on loan / release him so they could get a better pay day from a club not having to pay transfer fees. Why would United agree to these demands - and they ended up keeping him after the Greenwood news. 6-months on, he was a free agent and there were a lot of suitors - but his value had diminished since he'd been a benchwarmer for a year. Again, his representation over valued him - turned down multi-year contracts from good clubs because they wanted crazy money. They would get crazy money (>100k a week) ONLY from Forest and it was a one year. Why would you sign a one-year deal as a 30yr-old when you have clubs like Newcastle, Fulham offering multi-year contracts. Yes, lower pay but more stable clubs (remember Forest were just promoted and signed ~15 players that summer). Again - bad representation. Clearly more money turned out to be less money in the long-term - he is now without a contract. 2. Lack of seriousness: Players cannot choose to turn up when they want to. It's about consistency and working hard all the time. You can't work hard for a few months and live off that. He's been late to training, faked minor injuries and his time on social media is shockingly high - nope, not some PR company doing social stuff, Lingard himself spends a lot of time on KZfaq and IG. Maybe being friends with the wrong folks - Pogba, Sancho etc., impacted him, but as a serious footballer, you got to be 'ON' all the time. De Bruyne, Fernandes - players he was compared to during his West Ham spell - compare their seriousness for football to Lingard. Have you seen them post prank videos with teammates. Lingard also annoyed United pushing for them to give him some KZfaq exclusivity for content - again, another sign of non-seriousness from a footballing standpoint. a lot of talent, I really wish he had channeled it better or atleast had the right minders to advise to focus on what's important. I am hearing Rashford has similar minders not giving him the best advise. Sad!

I know right. I keep drawing parallels to him and Andreas Pereira, guy recognized he is of little value to his brand if he stayed at United. Took a gamble and lost. It was inevitable, though. A player having to go out on loan and then joining a team that would be fighting for their seat at the top table is always going to be a disaster. He was never going to be able to produce his best football with that calibre of player around him. That's why he only has himself to blame, took the short term payday instead of playing the long game. If he signed permanent for West Ham and had an okay season clubs would still be willing to take a punt on him. 🤡
@sususegar

Just to add a slight correction, The Athletic reported that Forest actually offered him a 2-year deal with maybe slightly lower wages. He/They didn't want it, probably thinking that he could shine as a "big fish in a small pond" at Forest for a season then zip off for a bigger deal elsewhere. He wasn't even thinking about any possibility of making a return to the England squad, let alone the World Cup. If he did, he would've made the logical choice of going to West Ham. There was even an attempt at positioning himself as a "mental health victim" after Dele Alli came out bawling before Gary Neville, it did work to an extent for a short period of time as some people in the media including pundits and journalists suddenly became very careful when commenting about a waste like Lingard.

Jesse has a big heart and is a good guy, from stopping randomly to have a kick around with kids who recognised him pass in his car to that time after he scored the winner in the FA Cup, turning up to where United fans were drinking and buying everyone a few pints and staying and mingling with everyone. At Manchester United he did play his best football under Mourinho but under Ole he failed to score and assist for 18 months and under Moyes at West Ham on loan he was enjoying himself again. Last season made a poor move to Nottingham instead of joining West Ham on a free and done nothing like no goals and no assists. Now his career is in limbo with no clubs pursuing his signature. What "undoubted talent"? I think that's one of the key problems. There never was any reason to judge Jesse as being a highly talented player. He never was, he just was paid like one by the embarrassingly poor management at Man United. He was always a mediocre player with 2 or 3 very good performances per season. His talent is very "doubtable".

If Lingard is going for the MLS, it would suit his brand and style of play. As long as he spends his time remaining fit, he should be fine for whichever team he ends up joining.

I’d say I noticed the trend with Ozil (though his happened while at a club) and a few others. They are players with ability but at a high price point. The price (wages etc) is one only the biggest teams will pay or a small or medium team would only pay for a player they are absolutely sure would perform and raise their level. The need to keep big players with huge contracts usually leads to such contracts and if performances dip or injury sets in or manager/ play style change, you have a big player with a big contract or a free agent with significant demands.

Lingard overvalues himself. If he lowered his demands, he could find a club. Comebacks are possible, no matter the reason for the time off. There are all kinds of openings out there. Willian at Fulham, Andros Townsend at Luton at two examples.

The same thing that happened to Dele Alli. Lack of maturity. All I remember him doing at the 2018 World Cup semifinal was incessantly yelling at the referee. Edit: The guy refused to join Newcastle at the start of last season because they wanted to pay him 120k per week but he was adamant he wanted 180k. Bad decision Jesse.

The lad was a lifelong United fan who wanted to chance to go back and be a part of his boyhood club again It was said that Solksjaer told him he would feature in the first team at United after impressing at West Ham & they didn't want to sell him to a team they saw as a "rival" at the time either so him going back to United wasn't strange at all. He joined Forest over West Ham when his contract expired for money. They offered a bigger salary and massive bonuses as mentioned which West Ham simply weren't willing to match given his form has been notoriously inconsistent

Then he had the option to go to West Ham on a 2 year deal and once again be a lynchpin for the team, instead he chose Forest because they were paying him more money. It’s a good point, I think footballers followed the lead of those that went before them, you needed another contract as your wages wouldn’t keep you forever…as the wages, even in the earlier PL days, while higher than average, weren’t life changing…they’re now realising that they can just sit back and wait…they don’t NEED to work for a few years…they know there will always be the MLS, the Saudi league and even desperate promoted clubs who need a big name

I doubt that AT was ever on the same level of salary though.

I always had a lot of time for Jesse Lingard as a United fan but Jesse is everything that is wrong with modern day football. Not a team player, doesn't take his job seriously, thinks the world revolves around him and that he is the main character, doesn't put in extra work, thinks just because he was gifted with the talent of playing football that he is better than everyone else. He shunned all the older players at Man United thinking they were old and out of touch and along with Pogba poisoned some of the younger players in the squad as they were "cool and trendy" players that were outgoing. The best thing United ever did was let him and Pogba go and are now trying to bring in professionals who take their job seriously. There is a reason Lingard is still unemployed, nobody wants to deal with a prima dona who thinks he is world class when his attitude is stinking.
