Thank you mister Tig. I was doing it on my own and some fellows mocked me. And I thought I was an idiot. Seems I was doing it right, because I tig weld just fine even though I had not touched a tig machine for more than 10 years. But seeing it from someone like you made me feel much better. Congratulations for the great job you are doing.

Good video Sir! One of the best things my dad did for me was building dexterity in both hands. He would make me tear something apart left handed, and then put it back together with my right. It makes life easier for sure. The very first time I picked up a wire I could feed with either hand. Dads... take the time to teach your kids manual dexterity!!! There are various exercises that do wonders and teach them to read early!!! Keep the great videos coming.

Hey, Mr. TIG, I just learned this year to TIG weld and I think in your video would have been helpful without any hinderances! I love that you mention its okay to start from the get go, training both hands. If anyone in interested, I found that my previous experience using a potter's wheel (throwing ceramics) was great training for using both hands and a foot pedal in regards to timing and pressure. If a person can find a cheap intro class, I'd suggest that as a cheap method of getting foot practice in as well.

I’m learning TIG in school right now and I thought about how in the army we used to do dime and washer drills to practice trigger squeeze, we would put a wooden dowel down the end of the barrel and lay in the prone position and put a dime on the top of the dowel and dry fire the weapon and try to squeeze gently enough that the dime stays in place, and do that until it becomes habit from repetition, and so I thought of “dime and washer drills” for tig and I’m pleased you made this video

I just thought of another benefit of using this training method; It is location and time portable. You can practice it anywhere that you have a pad of paper and a pen and a few minutes to yourself. Think about all the times in a day where you have a couple of minutes to kill and instead of wasting that time you can practice your tig technique.

If you don't have a filler wire you can use a bicycle wheel spoke. Now I'm right handed, but to get better control of my left hand I've started to learn how to write with my left hand, and it works well. You can transfer all sort of tasks from the right hand to the left one, in order to gain better control of it.

Prime Weld sells a combination TIG,.stick, and plasma cutter for about 500 dollars. Add an air compressor and a tank of inert gas and the tungsten electrodes (they are job specific and aren't suplied, although the TIG and plasma torches are). Add a variable automatic helmet from Harbor Freight for less than 50 dollars. That PrimeWeld unit runs on 120 or 240 volts, so for lighter duty it is even easier to use.

so, the torch angle does need to be almost 90*, however how the kid was holding the sharpie the first time was a better representation of the torch's handle that he would actually be holding... not sure why he made him hold it vertical as if writing..
