Hey kully! Just wanted to thank you for the eye opening tip on amp setting. I’ve been tig welding for a year now and always set the amps higher then needed. Sometimes leading to inconsistent passes. Now knowing to set it at a amp range where I can floor it it’s been a lot more consistent ! So I appreciate that and thank you for this vid ! 🤝

Nice video! I was TIG welding for the first time today in class. Im a construction carpenter but my back is screwed up and I need to switch to something with more ergonomic consistency like working in a shop instead of construction sites. Did not use a filler rod though just welding 1.5 mm mild steel strips together in 45 degrees to practice before Im going to weld together this table grill project that they gave us. It was a lot of fun and extremely satisfying. Im looking forward to more of these beginner videos.

Thanks man! I appreciate you watching. I’m glad i was able to bring a bit of value. Yes, that is a great way to start - just fuse material before using rod . They call that autogeneous welding. Get used to moving the torch and running the foot pedal !

Okay, I've been welding all kinds of stuff for many years, even tig welding, and I've never counted how many times I dip the filler in the puddle. Here is why " Why would I want to spend so much time thinking hmm am I dipping this filler enough times or not ?" When I focused mainly on just getting the job finished. Stainless steel doesn't always need to look like a stack of dimes when you are finished welding it . That's why the lay wire technique is just as simple as the dipping technique. How you tig up the job is mostly all a preference, not a requirement by code. So, just keep on doing what you feel is best for you. Feel free to tig weld some soda cans together whenever you have a chance. Make sure you use some very low amps. Lower than what you amps where on welding the exhaust pipes. Other than that nice-looking welds to be fair.

Thank you sir! Yes I agree, there is always difference strategies. I like to count dips to keep your start and stops evenly spaced. I will be doing all new welding videos again this winter! So is this Super Missile tig rod the same thing as a ER-312 rod? Did a little research to find this rod and from what I'm seeing Super Missile is a brand name for Harris ER-312 stainless rod with a higher chromium content making it a great maintenance rod for harden tools, gears, etc.

I really appreciate your instruction! I am getting ready to weld a stainless steel 16g exhaust on my Opel Gt. Your video is very helpful in prepping me for this challenge. What would you say I’d the minimum size gas lense cup? The largest I have is a 12. Will this get the job done or do I need to make a purchase?
@KULLYCO
@KULLYCO Жыл бұрын
Hey man! Thanks for watching the video - I’m glad it’s been helpful . A 12 will be perfectly efficient . It just won’t sheild the weld quite as well- but you can still make a pretty / strong weld with a twelve . If you do more of it moving forward- i would jump up a size

I usally weld about three seams at a time.. allowing one to cool down for a minute or two before continuing the weld. That was material doesnt get too heated.

What are your thoughts on fusion welding aka no filler if fit up is spot on?
@KULLYCO
@KULLYCO Жыл бұрын
I know companies that fuse / Autogenous weld there stuff and they seem to get away with it. It really depends what the application is for and how high the exhaust temps are going to get etc. Also it’s a question of durability and how long your hoping it lasts. I always use filler on street and race applications so I don’t have to worry about it.

Right now I’m in the process of building the hotside for a turbo kit. When I tac the stainless it tends to pull to that side causing gaps. Any tips or tricks to avoid that??
@KULLYCO

Make sure your tubing is sanded / cut very true . Where your pieces meet up it needs to be dead flat . Also , use small, cold tacks.. it doesn’t take much to hold material together . That should help with material moving around
