I think the collabs with Bob Does Sports and Grant and others are really good for Rick's game, particularly when he plays a bunch in a week, rather than just one offs here and there. I also wish Guy was in on the collabs more. He has become such a staple of the main channel, I think he's earned it.

TW is coming from a golf coaching perspective as opposed to course vlogs. In an ideal world, everyone would have a coach, have lessons, get great feedback, have time to practice etc. However, life isn’t like that so people (like me) watch Danny Maude, Dan Grieve and a select few others to get some pointers. The downside is the lack of feedback and reassurance that you’re actually doing it right versus making a complete arse of it. If you’re lucky it makes you a little better but often it can be a rabbit hole that you probably shouldn’t be going down.

I think a bit of context helps. The way Tiger was asked was: "I'm sure many here stayed up countless hours watching youtube videos. What's the one tip that you would give an amateur if he or she wanted to just improve their game?" Tiger didn't hesitate and gave the very logical response by saying to get off youtube and go hit some balls with a big smile on his face. This all happened while he was swinging a club on the practice range in a very relaxed setting. I think it's easy enough to get what he means and theres absolutely no reason to be offended as a golf youtuber. He than continued talking about club head awareness etc and how the only way to improve that is to hit balls.

@@Nathaniel.Spencer_GolfI can assure you that if you were in our 30s or 40s, lacking flexibility and a body that is more suited to sitting at a desk than hitting golf balls, you may need a pointer or three to get started. You should of course practice with intent, but if you and your buddies are clueless of where to even start, getting basic tips is incredibly useful. KZfaq can provide that. If you can afford to then go see a golf instructor but they are hit and miss as well. It's not the end all be all. but if you're lost about why you slice every ball, looking up a youtube video is easier and cheaper, than going to a golf coach.

@@back2back379 - Padrig Harrington basically said the samething on his channel a few times. He said get out there and hit big hooks, slices, low shot, high shots in order to learn to control your clubface and eventually you will find a middle ground between those shots. There is some great info on KZfaq but it can also waste a ton of time for a lot of people trying to get better.

@@Chris54321 if somebody has a bad swing, certainly paired with a poor or nonexistent understand of the golf swing in general, they are extremely unlikely to improve much via KZfaq. KZfaq isn’t a new thing. Then culture of “swing tips of the month” is long lasting. The old joke was always about the guys at the club who would bring the latest golf monthly magazine in the course with them and read Arnold Palmer “July tip for a better drive” in between holes. Speaking on KZfaq and golf watching I myself never had a single interest in golf, other than putting it on the golf channel when I'm napping because all their whispering is soothing lol, but I can count on 1 hand the amount of times in the last 50 years I've gone to a driving range or putting course and never been on a golf course in my life. After finding Rick and Peter's Golf Bidder challenge I started watching and next thing I knew I was signing up for a sing analysis, buying a set of recommended used clubs, going to the range 3-4 times a week, and all that happened because of KZfaq, not because of Tiger and the pro's, but because you guys made it look fun, you guys showed your mistakes, your bad days, but also the excitement of hitting a great shot (Guys Eagle shot will always come to mind). May 2023 you guys, and the youtube platform, got another new golfer.

Just wanted to add into the golf KZfaq debate - the start of my golf game was pretty much all watching videos on KZfaq and it helped me get great foundations, and today I use it as a resource for specific types of shots when I can't get a lesson, it's invaluable for this. What Tiger's right about though is if you just consume golf tips from social media you'll get thousands of different opinions on how to do any type of shot, thousands of different hacks for how to remove a slice, etc, when in reality, just getting some lessons will identify what tips are relevant to you and what steps you need to take to improve. I spent 8 months this year playing without lessons and I went from shooting +36 to around +32, and I've now been having lessons once a week for about 7 weeks, and I'm shooting low +20s and high +teens. TL;DR - KZfaq is perfect for foundations or new shots, but go get consistent lessons (and rounds) if you want to improve rapidly!

I have four more weeks before I can even put weight on my left leg. I probably have several months before I can attempt full swings. It’ll be nine months or more before my left knee feels normal again. I’m looking forward to this opportunity to tinker my swing. My knee injury hampered my ability to get completely through my left side. Because of this surgery, I’ll have half a year or more to really re-find my swing and get back to single digit handicap.

Coming out of having my back go out where I couldn't swing for weeks, still wasn't sure how it would respond but it was last night of league and I had to go for points..shot a 1 over round for 9 holes. Years ago, was out of town for weeks, got back, no warm up, shot 3 under with 5 birdies for 9 holes in league. Conversely, having a ton of practice, felt great about my game where it was, and having the utmost confidence I've shot some of my worst rounds.

BUT i think he's forgotten the lessons his dad got him when he was very young. He had a father who was golf crazy, he had access to a golf course and he got continuous lessons at a very young age. That's great for him, but for anyone that DOESN'T have that sort of thing, KZfaq is as close as we're going to get. And there's plenty of useful nuggets out there on a lot of different youtube channels. The real trick is to figure out which ones help you, and which ones are just sending you down rabbit holes.

Being an older guy my golfing heroes were Seve, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman then a bit later a huge fan of Monty, Ernie Els and Nick Price, there was nothing I like more that seeing the Europeans and Brits and rest of the world win majors against the American players, it wasn't because I don't like Americans it's just they generally won more often than not, so when other players like Seve, Nick Faldo, Padraig and more recently Rose and Fitzpatrick won the majors I appreciated it more, so when the Ryder Cup comes round I'm always 100% behind the European team. I also love how much it means to the players, I think it was a positive thing when it changed from GB to Europe it made it far more competetive and enjoyable to watch. As for Tiger I get where he's coming from but not going to lie some of the tips I've got for driving and chipping from youtube videos have really improved those aspects of my game, but I did go out and practice them. I will agree with Tiger that KZfaq can be a very confusing place for a new golfer. For instance, search "how to hit a 3 wood" and you will get literally opposite advice (hit down vs hit up like a driver) on different channels. Nothing replaces a good coach and tons of play time. This said, I think he is not grasping the impact of Rick's channel and others (GoodGood etc) on the game of golf. I have seen YT and Meetups revolutionize the game of poker for instance, the impact cannot be understated.

Would like Rick to review some of the new Yonex golf clubs. We don't get to see much of Yonex stuff here in the States.

I learned how to tweak my swing by a combination of watching KZfaq instructors and recording videos of my own swings... and hitting tons of balls between the range and golfing 3x a week (i work 3 12s night shift and off 4). I still suck but i suck a bit less now 😅

Tiger and the professional tours should be afraid of KZfaq. You guys present 18 holes of well edited action with humorous and educational commentary in an hour. The PGA tour shows never ending plumb bobs, waggles, nauseating self promoting commentary (often kissing up to tiger). Your entertainment value and the efficiency of watching far exceeds that of regular weekly events and even the FedEx so called championship (30 man money grab with staggered start is no legitimate tournament ). I’ll watch non majors only if I can speed through a recording and even the majors I prefer to edit with my finger on fast forward. Otherwise I’d much rather watch Rick and Guy break 75 and especially play w Adam Scott or Rickie. Well done

Hey Rick you should try bring Ryan Fox onto the Chanel for to 10 shot challenge. Being a kiwi myself his win over this past week end to me was better than Lego and I honestly think you guys would get along and it would be great content.

As an older guy that can’t play golf as a young man, I enjoy watching some of the KZfaq golf channels. They entertain me. I am not looking to get better at golf. Those days have passed. I am happy for these young people that can make a living playing golf on KZfaq. No one will be as good as Tiger, but Tiger needs to get off of his high horse and just let golf channels be what they are. Entertainment.

I agree KZfaq is an amazing tool when used correctly. Anyone who plays once a week and never picks up a club at home will not improve substantially, with or without KZfaq, lessons or instruction.

Totally against Tiger's comment, Watching KZfaq golf channels like RS, GoodGood, Grant Horvat, Bob Does Sport, etc, got me into the game, and watching Danny Maude and then going to the driving range to practice has done wonders for my game. For people without the money to spend on sports tv channels, watching golf on KZfaq is great.

Rick have a look at the EV2 with its completely flat bottom, unlike the two-tiered ER2(v) that you are rocking as your gamer. And why have you not tried the "gravity grip"?

I think the selecting mode is bullsh*t and that it's a big mistake no to select at least ONE player from historical continental countries (Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands). Do you really think that Guido Migliozzi, Victor Perez, Yannik Paul, Thomas Detry or Joost Luiten would have been ridiculous il that competition ? I don't. And at least that would have been a REAL european team. Most of amateur golfers from those countries (like me) won't give a sh*t to it next week. Well done PGA !!

I agree with tiger. If you look up how to fix a slice, there are thousands of different videos on KZfaq saying how to fix it with hundreds of different diagnosis’s. It’s hard to find the right thing to fix your swing when no one sees your swing in person. If you want to get better get a in life coach. If you want to get into golf KZfaq is good for that info.

As for the Ryder Cup I think it’s funny they expanded the Cup after the Americans were dominating Great Brittain. Now it’s all of Europe who has 746 million population while the USA has 331m. But that’s fine. Nobody here will remember who won in 2 months.

I'd imagine the reason why he said don't watch KZfaq for golf advice is because as helpful as it can be at times...it can be confusing when you watch one creator say one thing and then another creator says not to do what you just heard the first one say 😂 I see his point though as I can't really afford actual lessons right now it's a great alternative for some tips

@guycharnock, as much as I'm a fan and watch all the podcasts ... there are a couple of things, on which, we should align: 1. I am English first and then European. The Ryder cup is one of the top two golf tournaments on the calendar. Whoever you support in individual golf, they're unlikely to win in any given week. Being a @TommyFleetwood , I know this to the case. But at Ryder cup time, there's a good chance my team could prevail. 2. Which brings me onto the other one, the Solheim Cup. It's the other biennial event and it's on this week and didn't get a mention. Are you anti women's golf? 3. I started golf in 2019, so never followed Tiger in his prime. In fact, my only recollection of him was for being in the news for being unfaithful, shying away from openly supporting diversity in golf and for being on the Accenture ad in the airport. Certainly no reason I can see for being a hero figure. I thought it worthwhile to share a few points that could feed future discourse. Enjoy the Solheim Cup 🏆

I love youtube golf BUT I have to kind of agree with Tiger. I think if you're new to golf or trying to improve youtube can be tempting because there is some good advise on it....the problem is almost too frequently you as the viewer are imagining you have X problem. When in reality you have a Y or Z or even a YZ problem. A golf professional focuses directly on you and will see that and be able to advise accordingly. When you self diagnose sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. You can go down rabbit holes watching youtube that actually makes your game worse. Not because the content creator doesn't know what they're doing but rather you as the golfer don't actually know what the problem is.
