It was announced back in January that the PGA Tour had reached a $3 billion deal. And part of that agreement gives 193 eligible players the opportunity to hold an initial $930m in equity in the tour. That equity will be divvied up based primarily on a ‘Career Points’ metric, marking achievements on the Tour. We finally have the full breakdown of what the worlds top players will be getting as a payout for staying loyal to the PGA tour and not going to LIV golf...

Tiger brought the viewership and made golf cool but he is a billionaire verging on retirement. Is giving him another $100m really the best way to show loyalty to pga tour members not going to LIV. The tour made their own grave with this, they created civil war for no good reason and now don't know how to fix it. When tiger retires viewership will plummet so hard, and the sponsors will go with him.

Any elite young golfer should jump ship to LIV asap. Why should Akshay Bhatia or Sahith Theagala for example put money into Jordan Spieth's pocket? Tiger had his decades of fame. He wasn't sharing his sponsorship money with the PGA was he? This is the last straw for me. Old golfers making money off of the backs of future stars is not how it should be. What a joke! “It’s not about the money” was the chorus sung by all the PGA chumps. People forget that when the LIV guys left they created opportunities for up-and-comers to have a spot on tour that wouldn’t have been there otherwise. LIV has elevated the purses for those on the PGAT. Now we see the PGA chumps for what they really are, hypocrites, greedy, and doing nothing for those guys trying to make a name for themselves. It continues to be the Tiger/Rory show. And based on bother Tiger’s and Rory’s recent performance, I’d say the PGAT is in very bad shape, at risk of becoming irrelevant, the new feeder tour. The PGA guys who turned down the LIV offers have told the world one thing loud and clear, they are horrible businessmen. Now we all know. True leaders don’t follow. Movers and shakers are not stagnant people. Now there is no mistaking who is who.

Everyone who remained on the PGA tour has already benefited massively, especially the top players, from drastically increased purses combined with a weaker field and increased OWGR points with the tour basically having a monopoly on points. If you are in the top 70 of the world rankings and play on the PGA tour it's basically impossible to play yourself out of the top 100 unless you get the yips. Secondly, why award these players with doing what is supposedly expected from them or the "right thing" by staying, when you already punished the ones who left for LIV by banning them, excluding them from ranking points and by putting down their public image? It's like rewarding someone for not robbing a bank (except there is nothing wrong or illegal in joining LIV). Looks like things are going full circle again, they are again just benefitting the top few guys, which was a big reason why many LIV Players left in the first place. Everyone always accusing LIV Players from having their cake and eat it too, this seems very much what the PGA Tour players now want. They want to remain on the tour with legacy etc but also want the money that the LIV guys are getting

If it’s an equity position, then it’s just a position…it’s not cash in hand. It’s only worth something if they can sell their equity position…which they probably can’t. Or, if the whole thing were to be sold, then they would get something. So, unless something is different, it’s not costing the PGA any money. If they truly were getting the money in hand, then that would be a bad move when those funds could’ve been used for increased purses, etc.

Keep up your grade insights you lay it out in such a way that we can understand it and make our own decision on what the tours trying to do buy the big players. Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, and the rest of the LIV players are just laughing. 😂 What a hypocrisy by the PGA Tour that’s the way I see it

So many questions on how this would work. Ok tiger gets $100m in equity. But that’s not real money until he can cash it in, which means someone buying his equity off him. I’m sure they gona have strict rules on who can buy the equity. Also that equity must be linked to some kind of valuation of the PGA.tour. If that valuation goes down, which it could well do, then so does the equity share. I get that the equity shares tend to be top heavy for the most valuable assets in a corporation, but this does seem really badly skewed to me.

This is an equity scheme not cash, it said equity can't be realised for at least 8 years, meaning minimum 8 years before you can sell, there will be restrictions on who you can sell to. Current Equity is based on a theoretical value, however if in 8 years the entity isn't making serious profit then the value of the equity seriously diminishes. You are correct if new players come in and extra shares issued to cover this then the value of all other shares diminish. The current broadcast deals are in place until 2030 so money is not coming from there until that new deal is agreed and with current ratings tanking I can't see a big bonanza increase to pay for all this. Every year LIV will get stronger globally further diluting PGATOUR 's market share. Unless they take all the charity money which would be wrong then the only way they pay for this is to increase costs for us fans which will further hurt ratings.

What about other players who actually rumored to join LIV but stayed in the PGA tour shouldn’t they get paid more.

Gee, why not give Jack Nicklaus equity, Tiger's a semi-retired billionaire, I don't get it. Take that money and goose the tour, how about low round every day - thursday/friday/saturday gets a check, that will motivate players on every round. Shoot 59 on tour? Get a check for $59M ! That'll motivate Scottie to take a few more chances, no more layups on the par 5's! Attend an event, give away prizes, attend on a Wednesday and pull 10 names from tickets for a chance to win a truck on closest to the pin, give away t-shirts to all attendees on Thursday, pretend you give a crap about the people that allow the tour to exist. That's what I would do, making the rich guys richer is really gonna excite the fans - it's LIV's biggest mistake and the PGA leadership is nothing if not clueless.

I would think a fairer way of doing it would be to set it up as a retirement fund that can be cashed out when a player retires or reaches a certain age. X amount of dollars per win, X amount of dollars for where they ended the season points wise, or something like that, or like you said the players who are up and coming, how do they get a piece of the pie that's fair. Or, increase prize funds, or increase what those struggling players who struggle to make cuts get. Tiger is worth over 2B, he doesn't need 100M

I’m with you here. When I saw the news I had a hard time understanding the logic behind it? To me this seems like a knee jerk reaction. Lots of big tour players have jumped ship to LIV and I think this is their way of keeping players on side, possibly fuelled by Rahm’s move. They probably thought if he did a u-turn and moved, what would stop someone like Rory, JT, Tony Finau and other key tour players.

So nobody gets any money straight away, they have to wait between 4-8 years. If LIV offers say $100m over 5 years at $20m a year with the first payment up front I think the players will work out pretty quickly they are getting short changed by the PGA T. The players that are not PGA T loyalists, for use of a better term, will still seriously consider the benefits of switching their alliegiance. I think the money would be better spent by increasing prize money accross the board at all events making it a performance based scheme rather than reward players post mortem.

They totally screwed the PGA players who stayed. If the PGA Tour held it's ground and kept the LIV players out, the payment would be unjustified. The PGA Tour needs to have the guts to hold it's ground. One of the things they have boasted for years is integrity. They are throwing all that away by negotiating with Greg Norman and the Arabs.

LIV players benefitted but don’t forget PGA tour players also did aswell when those players left. Wasn’t as though nothing happened to increase purses for the pga. The people that really needed are more the ones trying to qualify or barely making it on the tour. The top guys are basically getting more so that the guys down the bottom will miss out altogether. This is like player impact program to make another excuse to pay players for no reason than to slap the guys struggling financially in the face. You can say play better but the thing sometimes it’s your finances that stop you from getting from place to place to survive to allow you to play where u need to. Some players get better breaks than others financially etc so you can’t say that extra $100 Mil is going make a big difference to tiger for staying loyal to pga. Remember you have to be in the PGA for 8 years to cash out full value, this program is based off a tech industry program to keep the highest skilled employers in the company. LIV would be better to just offer ANY young player coming in from college or korn ferry, ie the star prospects, a 3yr $10M guaranteed contract. Turnover in the PGA is about 50 players a season so it's going to be really hard for any fringe player to get a piece of the pie, this is just for the stars that make the PGA money.

Rory “I hate LIV” but I will take money and run while screwing 90% of players. And we wonder why Rory says he and Jay are bff’s. Love Tiger, but not sure his pops would be proud of this,. Those other 90% should ban together and announce they are going to LIV asap. Jay is a complete snake. Only reason Jay is still there is Rory and Tiger. Complete sham.

Nothing bizarre or remotely strange about this. The PGA is rewarding/incentivizing those that haven’t left for LIV to stay with the PGA. And of course the top 36 should get a significantly greater share of the honey pot… by and large, these are the golfers that fans actually care to see play. Carlos have an issue with the lower 2/3 decide to leave for LIV. There is nothing surprising going on here.

This is hypocrisy in disguise. Who comes up with the formula? If PGA players accept this money they all will lose respect from the viewers. Stop watching PGA golf all together

Ridiculous! To come up with a scheme like this PGA must be very scared that they are going to lose more marque players.

Why should Tiger get so much money shortly before he is retiring? This money should be for the future not for the past. Yes i get it that Tiger, Rory, Justin and JT had a bigger impact than others, but the money should be used to keep the PGA Tour running.

F'en Joke. All the card-carrying members of the PGA Tour are all now a bunch of hooows, Tiger....as much as I like him...WTF has he done to get $100 mill. He is ranked close to 800 in the World...finished Dead Last at the Masters and if not for his win in 2019 would not be in ANY Majors. Only way he can play on the PGA Toru is by invite or a even that he hosts. $100 milllllllion. BS. Lastly, this is just a payout to the top fat happy few. WTF happened to using the funds to "grow the game." Once again, the PGA Tour board is F'ing the game!

This absurd amount of money being dished out is over the top. Way too much for Tiger. He is finished and doesn't need the money. If he was a decent man he'd forfeit some of that and five it to the lower ranked players. I'd like a set amount for players 1-25 then lower amount for the next 25 ranked group and so forth all the way down. But money has to be injected back into the game. I hate where golf is going and I'm not watching anywhere near as much as golf needs to know views hip is down. Hearing the players get this much money does not help that cause.
