Tight Curls Wash N Go... DO NOT ADD WATER!

Do you have a poofy and shrunken fro? Are you adding tons of product with little results and little wearability no matter what? ..This is why.
After applying water and brushing through this clients hair, the excess was squeezed out.

Facts! I do my “wash n gos” on slightly damp hair. I’ve tried the soaking wet and it’s a no. I tried squeezing excess water out and it’s still a no. After 10 years of being natural and trying all sorts of gels, styling creams, mousses and techniques-I finally nailed my best wash n go. Definition, shine and lasts a week.

I'm just here for the curls 👍🏾 My hair loves the soaking wet and shake method, but it's nice to see just how unique everyone's curls are, even though people think a letter and number can define a whole group, clearly it is not that simple and it is all about finding what works best for yourself.

It’s not so much about what works individually, it’s about what works scientifically, based on 3 hair characteristics, environmental factors, style goals, desired outcome, and current condition. The product on wet hair and shaking to form definition does work on specific characteristics.. specifically tight to medium wave patterns with flat and smooth textures.. again dependent on desired outcome. You’re right, hair typing isn’t conducive in guiding individuals in adequate Haircare and styling practices.

Hello Ms. Lavida. …I know this is a old video but I wanted to share with you I have fine strands (so I have been told) medium density hair. I tried your suggestions on styling and it worked. I was adding to much water etc. My salt and pepper hair is more defined, less frizz and just beautiful. Also I started styling in the side/front instead of the back as most clients do. This help me concentrate on my troubled areas and get better definition. I just wanted to say thank you and going forward this is my stable. I always felt it wasn’t the product (I use botanical products). It was I needed to learn the correct method for my hair. God Bless and much success 👍🏾🙏🏾

Thank you for sharing! Adding water during styling is essentially diluting the holding product. I’m sure you’re getting much more wear and longevity for the entire week!

This rule usually applies for 4c hair because water capture the curls. It doesn't work for everyone myself included. Yes the products dilute on my strands and I cannot get that hold from the gel because it's too wet to form a cast. Great video.

Hair typing isn’t really applicable. Hair characteristics must be considered when caring for and styling. The rule applied to the curly hair industry exclusionary of tight curls. We borrowed this from the Curly Industry (Deva Curl) and it works to care for hair but not to finish. Thank you for watching. ☺️

I am so happy I found your videos. I have tried several gels for my wash n go's without achieving a good result but now I know that I need to use my Felicia brush and styling comb on damp hair along with my gel. I am a 4c Natural. I love your videos.

Thank you for this information. I was discouraged because my hair is rippled and my wash and go results were disappointing. Now ,I work more on distribution of the gel. Many. blessings.

I’m going to dry on damp hair tonight. I have tried so many gels and it seems that by day 2 I have frizz. I’m not sure why though. I hydrate via water-shampoo-condition and my sets just don’t last. My base is usually UFD. I’ve been playing with Ouidad, but idk. I’m ready for long lasting sets. Any suggestions?

Yes ma’am! UFD is a botanical gel has lots of humectants. Your outer texture, state of hair and strand thickness matters. So if draws moisture the hair. Try a heavier hold gel. Watch the full length video that was posted after this. It’s broken down into chapters. I’ll have more up soon. Curlformer gel is a favorite and it’s in my store. Let me know how it goes!
