The way this story was edited is the reason why people are going to social media for their news. I watched Keith Lee’s unedited comments about why he left the Bay Area early and it wasn’t because of the allergic reaction he had. In fact, he presented that issue as an aside. But this story made it seem as if that was the reason, when the REAL reason Lee talked about AT LENGTH in his video is that the area is struggling. People are struggling with homelessness and unchecked crime and the loss of community and it felt wrong (insensitive) to be a tourist in the middle of all of that. This story mentioned it in the last 30 seconds of a 5+ minute story. Social media did a better job at reporting this story. I encourage anyone reading this to watch Keith Lee’s comments from his social media pages.

As an SF native, I hope Keith doesn’t change. You get good reviews if you deserve them. Period. No excuses. We want food critics to be fair and objective so you can’t curate which restaurants they go to. What Adonis said was that defensive city attitude I don’t miss.

He can have an opinion, but given his previous reviews everyone on the planet KNOWS that He has horrible taste buds and his ego is too high. We need real professional food critics with talent and flavor diverse profiles, not some overgrown 12 year old looking for fame or to be worshipped for his opinion. He didn't try food we actually eat here in the Bay so I'm glad he's gone because he just sucked soo badly the entire time he was here, attitude and all. He can go tour DETROIT since he's from there and it's known for it's cleanliness and THRIVING economy LOL

Adonis, Keith wants to have an authentic reaction/review to the food. Not just the cool "good" restaurants that you seem to be promoting for your friends. And like most tourist, they don't usually have a local connect to ask or show them around to all these places you were suggesting. Not to mention...locals always be mad when tourist show up. They are always " like don't come to our locals spots, we don't want tourist here". Next time Adonis, catch the Shut The Hell Up Spirit... and just don't say anything. This is why we can't come together as a collective community, because everytime somebody is looking for a piece of the spotlight. You could've just said, it was terrible he experienced that bad situation. And hopefully he will come back and maybe you two could link up for a better experience. Done, that's it.. that's all. I’m glad Keith spoke his truth. I’m exceptionally glad he spoke about the conditions of the Bay Area. It’s shameful how people feel they can dictate what a person is suppose to or not to say. Thank God his perception of the Bay made the news. The News outlets always want to give fluff. Why haven’t the News talked about the Bay Area being referred to as Gotham City? That should be the bigger problem and what is being done to correct that. I hope the Governor, the Mayors & Community leaders take what he said & do something about the Bay Area. Although we want our Restaurants to succeed, we can all agree the cost of rent, food, staff shortages as well as safety makes is hard to put out quality dishes let alone keep the doors open. Once the Bay Area is safe(r) we will see improvement. However, we need to be honest with ourselves, the Bay Area is in a State of Emergency. Lord help us…..

For real. I’m not from the bay area, but remember taking roadtrips to the Cal-UCLA football games while in college. Back then it was raw, but now the area is Gotham City, Gotham City. SF is lost, but Oakland can make a comeback. I hope the people that have their head on right can fix the chaos. Might make sense to start voting in a different direction. Godspeed.

Lived in San Francisco in 1991 in 1992… Yes the restaurants were off the chain. There were restaurants everywhere, bakeries you name it /mom and Pop's the best food everywhere.... And then Facebook/the tech industry pushed everybody out and chain restaurants came in and then the city just imploded on itself because of ignorance.

He’s black from Detroit, why would he come here looking for other types of food. Plus he’s allergic to shellfish, Asians serve a lot of raw seafood and shellfish that most black people from the Bay Area don’t eat. Black ppl who eat Asian style food usually only stick to certain foods, fried rice, chicken, shrimp, prawns, dried fried ribs, chow mein, beef and broccoli, some cooked sushi. It kinda stops there. Anything outside of that, we’re not eating. Black people have a different palate from Asians.

I have been mentioning the squalor and reasons why the tents and burned out cars exist for years now and the Humanitarian crisis going on in the Bayarea . I'm Native to the area so I know what is what and how it got here to begin with. The people and politicians trying to ignore it and want to hide behind Happy Talk are in for some big surprises ahead and they are going to have to face the music. The people on the streets are not in any position to make decisions anymore and it is the decisions of those who have the resources to change the dynamics that could eliminate homelessness that are now controlling the action. They are the one's making poor decisions at this point. Drug and alcohol are only a small fraction of what led to the dilemma. Very few can grasp the magnitude of it. Yourself included.

The reason he probably doesn't hook up with local foodies is because he doesn't want any special treatment and wants to provide the honest takes that come from the people that he sends into the spots to get the food. If they know it's him, they would do things they wouldn't do for the average consumer. So I get why he does the reviews like that, honest service he provides his honest opinion on both.

To be honest I sue to take my family to the bay, however 2019 was the last time I went. It was the worst experience I ever had for starters you have to feel it is safe for your family and I did not feel this why. Definitely not the Bay Area my parents use to take me to visit when it was cleaner and more upscale. Now it feels like a war zone!!!

He can't give every food blogger, every foodie that comes to town a tour. And Kief things is asking the ppl to send him recommendations of places/hole in the walls and he also visits some of the established staples. So no matter how you look at it, he was bound to get that food poisoning.

Up to 2002 I could just ride my motorcycle from the South Bay to “the city” at 2am to have a bowl of noodles in Chinatown. Now, I don’t even want to risk my family’s safety there even at 2pm. Things started to go downhill when Gavin Newsom became mayor and now he’s doing the same thing to California as governor.

I think the residents and locals need to wake up to a cold hard reality. San Francisco never had enough industry to support their city. They rely heavily on tourism and "outsiders" to come in and spend money and leave. Its not quite Vegas, but its definitely more reliant on outside money than other major cities like Los Angeles and San Diego. Crying about tourists just reeks of ignorant anger. Maybe some of them need to be unemployed for a short while before they get a clue.

I used to go to a place in the early 90's called Do City 🏙️ BBQ Real deal! Concrete floors Plexi Glass Pass through windows 🪟 Nice! Does anybody remember Bertola's over in Oakland? Loved that place too! I could get 3 Black Russians and a Pint of Spaghetti 🍝 for incredibly cheap back then!

The food in Boston is excellent. Better than all NE states. There is a problem with many restaurants when it comes to allergies. I've been told to go elseware and thrown out for requesting allergy to shellfish precautions. Especially in certain Chinese restaurants. Also for not drinking alcohol. Even though I bought food. Most are cautious. Done claim to clean it. But do not. Thinking it's in our heads.

Lunch at "Applebees" was the highlight, where he made negative comments about the Bay Area, though he'd never been. Evenings were spent alone, trolling online, and his social life was nonexistent. His life lacked color, excitement, or friends to break the monotony.

😂 Where in the Bay Area was he? The Bay is big and i was born and raised in San Francisco Daly City and never ever had food poison. He should of went too Hunters Point, yup South San Francisco, Mission st, good burrito, tacos etc....& 19 Ave amazing Chinese restaurants Hunters Point is African American. Food is explosive, he went to the wrong restaurant.

I live in Bayview Hunters point and we had some bomb food there in that area. Visitors are scared to travel anywhere away from the Downtown area.❤❤

The Bay Area SUCKS now. There's nothing to do & most good restaurants are gone now. And this place is expensive. It didn't used to be hard to find good food here.
