This is why if I ever have kids, I’m finding out the sex the old-fashioned way: When it pops out. Before then, people are *way* too weird about my hypothetical kid’s genitals and what gifts they should get based off of said genitals. Like, “oh no! I can’t buy a tutu until I know it’s a girl!” ??? Then get a toy or something useful? “But should it be pink or blue?!?!” I don’t know, green? Orange? Black? God forbid I put a pink onesie on my infant son. That would just ruin him /s. Who cares, as long as it’s healthy? People are weird.

For everyone saying “He shouldn’t be mad. It’s his fault it’s a girl.” It’s nothing to have “fault” for. Fault implies it’s a bad thing. It’s not. It’s a satirical joke regarding sexual reproduction, my guy. Sperm is what decides the sex of the baby. Saying its “their fault” for the baby being a girl, is saying “your sperm decided the sex, dont know what to tell you” in an exaggeration way. Other way to word this is: Men gives women’s bodies the blueprints to create those sex organs, they just don’t know what the blueprints look like. So while it isn’t inherently their fault, they still are the reason the child is going to be born a girl. Again, saying its “his fault” is an exaggeration displaying the irony of him being upset with having a daughter. There was an entire thread from someone complaining about this in the replies elsewhere. It’s just a joke poking fun at a dads being overly emotional towards and (IMO) pretty disrespectful towards their unborn child

In my opinion (and also based on my religious thoughts), If one cannot do those things, it’s best they put the kid for adoption or not have kids at all.

They could have 5 daughters but the son is wayyyy more important. And they show it sooooo much. There are mom's who also want to have daughters, but i guess cause they're carrying the child they don't get pressed about the gender. Gender reveals in general are getting grossly out of hand. I appreciate when people quietly let others in on their joy instead of making an obnoxious, narcissistic display and an excuse for the couple to have another party and day dedicated to them. Starting to think that having a day long party revolving around themselves is the only reason people get married or procreate any more. After the one gender reveal that burnt a whole town down, I started shunning invitations from friends and family when they had their own gender reveals. Told them all that cueing me in through text would suffice. Also, for the people defending gender disappointment, yes, dad's can do things with their daughters that they could do with their sons. I had an adopted father figure who taught me about changing tires, oil, balance a check book, how to drive, fish, camp, hunt, let me play in the dirt, etc. All things that a dad would normally do with their son. My uncles were all the same way. Where a lot of men saw disappointment, the men who helped raise me saw an opportunity to help me be more prepared to navigate everyday life in this world. They wanted me to be more than capable to handle life.

Yeah I agree. To me it just feels like a day for the couple to have another day dedicated to them, especially with how big they get, like turning it into full on events. Especially with the risk that you could potentially die at these parties because they couldn't just send everyone a text or have the guests eat some cake. Do you REALLY need to spend thousands of dollars on an airplane that flies above and shoots out colored smoke? It just seems so silly and a waste of everyone's time and resources to me.

Edit: what the actual hell are these replies 😭😭 The amount of people who are upset about having a daughter is really confusing. Imagine being a girl, going through old family archives, to discover your father straight up CURSED over the reaction of your existence. Personally I don't like the concept of gender reveals as a whole (making a huge deal over genitals sounds kinda useless to me), but getting genuinely upset over what sex your child is sounds a wee bit fucked up, wouldn't you say? Don't have children, if you're not going to accept who your children are. (That applies to almost everything, sex, gender, sexuality, disability, etc). If you chose to take the baby to term and birth them, you "signed up" for whatever and whoever that child will become. Okay rant over

My father at my gender reveal party wasn't unhappy about me being a girl, but more of worried in a reasonable way (my opinion). He was worried on how he was going to care for a girl and how good their life would be because well he didn't experience being one. (Mainly because of sexists, those hook up people who probably live in alleyways, periods, etc.) Either way he did a good job, supportive and was always calm and forgiving but of course had his limits. He would cheer me up on any sport i picked up, judo, volleyball, even if it was ballet (which he also loved my presentations). One of the traits he most liked and still likes to this day about me is my competitiveness, he thinks its a strong personality trait and that its fun I hate losing. As someone who's father and grandfather openly expressed how they wished that his first born would've been a boy, I can say that those girls will have a life long struggle with the suppression and/or expression of their femininity (if that is how they feel within their heart to express themselves). Wasn't until 27 years old that I discovered that I developed a hunch in my back because I moved my shoulders forward to hide my breasts all through youth. Now at 30 and thanks to positive, confident feminine role models and 3 years of dedicated yoga as physical therapy for my shoulders, do I now feel comfortable enough to express that inner femininity that I always felt and craved, but told all my life was an utter disappointment. Thanks dad.

However when I found out later what his reaction to my birth was.... Shit hurt. Like the only reason he was excited for me to exist at all, my inherent value to him, was entirely pinned on the hope that I'd be a boy. Ouch.

He nééds to be a boy and I don't care how many hospitalvisits we need to make in order to make it a boy. They better filter the sperm and double-check, it needs to be a boy!' I asked him why the second couldn't be a boy and he said; 'The oldest needs to be a boy, because otherwise it doesn't make sense if I call them Luke and Leia.' Gender reveals aren't always bad, some of them are quite sweet but the best one I've heard of is from my coworker, but it wasn't even for a baby. Her son came out as trans when he was about 13, and was really nervous about telling family and friends. So my coworker had the idea of doing a meetup with family and close friends to tell them all at once. They ended up making it a gender reveal announcement for him, having all the (non flammable) classics, the colored cake, the balloons, a pinata, even party poppers. It helped him with his nerves and fueled his confidence lots. And they both love telling the story of it.

I feel like it's so weird to judge people based off of genitals, that's not something you can choose. Plus some people like my mom say there is a difference between boys and girls growing up (other than puberty) but honestly, a lot of that is probably from the gender roled forced on them from birth so they basically have not say. May be a tad bias as I'm a trans man 😅
@sherbetthesheep3916
@sherbetthesheep3916 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think this is bias! I completely agree! Like you said, things like hormones and sometimes physical changes (I say sometimes because of intersex peeps), but other than that, I don’t think there’s a lot! The color thing is pretty odd, as color is color, the Barbie dolls vs monster trucks is also odd, as both genders would play with those toys if there parents bought them. The sports thing is also odd, because there are girls who love sports, and boys who hate them. The diffrence is the way your child is raised, before your child knows gender sterio types (and hits puberty), there is really nothing different exept for physically (sometimes agian). I think everyone should just let there child chose what they like! What they want to play with, dress in, etc. I also sadly may be a tiny bit biased because I am lesbian, so that last part about letting your kid choose came from the tiny childhood me who loved dinosaurs, monster trucks, etc. but I’m pretty sure the first part still stands!

What if he had a son who liked dolls or dresses, or who ended up being trans. I get hoping for a specific sex, especially since he already had two daughters, but still, it's a pretty strong reaction. It’s honestly so childish for the father to get upset about the gender of the baby. They shouldn’t be worry about if it’s going to be a girl or boy, they should be worrying about if it’s a healthy baby.

I genuinely believed that gender reveal parties were parties where lgbtq+ people would come out to their family and friends.

we should switch it to this tbh. no more burning down forests because you're gonna have a girl. just a cute little celebration where you come out to your loved ones

the baby’s sex* is literally determined by the male side of their chromosomes, so if they so “unfortunately” got a baby girl the father should blame themselves (reality is 50/50 tho

The baseball ones give me such bad vibes of the mother is only considered the incubator for the dad's son. Like maybe I'm just overeading it, but I get uncomfy feelings from it.

I’ve said this a million times and I will not stop saying it, DONT HAVE KIDS IF YOU ARENT PREPARED TO LOVE THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE. If you don’t want a child who is gay, trans, disabled, mentally ill, or a specific gender then YOU ARE NOT READY TO BE A PARENT. When you have kids you are signing up to unconditionally love them for who they are. If you can’t support and love your kid through whatever/whoever they turn out to be, you are a failure as both a parent and a human being. Don’t want a girl? Adopt a boy, but keep in mind that sex is not the same as gender and they could end up coming out as trans. You can’t ensure your child will be a girl or a boy. Don’t want a disabled kid? Don’t have kids at all, because that can happen to anyone at any time. Even you reading this. Don’t want an lgbtq kid? Again, don’t have kids at all or grow tf up because all of these are things out of your control. Part of being a good parent is not only about being supportive, but adapting to changes you did not expect to keep that same energy of support and love.

Well yes but let’s not forget we need to raise *them* the right way so that they can be equally good parents to *their* kids once they grow up. And if we have a religion, make sure they respect all the norms of this religion as much as possible :)

@Therightopinion yikes. Idk what you mean because these kids ARE normal. You can’t change them and if you do that you are traumatizing them and being an awful parent. I hope you never have kids

wish my parents had a grasp on that concept. My sister coming out as trans has been... tumultuous at best. Very big "I love trans people I just wouldn't want my child to be one" energy. And they're obsessed with whether or not she keeps her genitalia 💀 like. Why??? You're not planning to look at it or interact with it, right guys? Right...? So why do you care.....?
