The 50 30 20 is no longer feasible - you need to make your savings work harder to increase against inflation rate
@djm218910 ай бұрын
Yup and even then it's not great. I'm 28 and have 70k usd in retirement so far. That stupid number has gone up and back down with this economy. The only thing growing was my 30k I put into a CD at 4.5% which is still less than inflation. Thus I'm fked. Thing is, I'm doing so much better than many, yet it's not working for me. Thus it's infinitely worse for others.

Funny thing is Australia has an abundance of produce. Yet we still pay heaps for local products. I can buy imported gourmet cheese like English blue stilton, Italian gorgonzola, French brie for the same or less then gourmet local Australia cheese.

Dubai may have a lesser cost of living than London. But there are more cities elsewhere that are far cheaper than both Dubai or London. Dubai is an artificial concrete jungle in the middle of a desert. Everything in it is just a facade. Go outside the city limits and it's all bleak and bare wasteland.

The American woman who pays 350 euros rent in Italy. Where? Where is she spending 10 euros on a meal out ? Free health care? Mostly, yes, but wait till you have an urgent exam to do or need meds not covered by the government. Nice that she doesn’t need a car, but many places, especially in the South, have very unreliable public transport. Our utilities are very high. 50 euros for food? As I said before, where? Rent for a one bedroom in my city starts at around 500 euros a month. And you have to have it painted and furnished at your own expense.Italy might seem cheap if you have an American paycheck, but the average Italian has a miserable paycheck and prices which do not stop going up.

You can do better by eliminating WANTS. Split the WANTS 50-50 and put into savings and investments. Once you built up enough from your savings and investments, you can start channeling some to WANTS again but in a prudent manner.
