my main issue with braces is that you need to wear a retainer after getting them off because if you don't, the work the braces did gets undone, you may as well keep the braces on since you can't forget those

I'm glad I got braces, but I followed my orthodontist's directions to the letter and had a good outcome. They are a minor inconvenience, but it was worth it for straight teeth that are easier to care for.

I’ve been wearing a lower retainer and upper nightguard combo for almost 20 years post-braces. Not the most attractive, but I’ve gone away for a few days without them before and when I got back, they were both uncomfortably tight - showing me that even all these years later my teeth still want to move. That’s motivation enough to continue wearing them!

Oh, dear lord. This was a bit of nightmarish memories watching this. Haven't had braces for over 10 years, now. But I can remember all the sounds, tastes and feeling when getting spacers tightened, wires redone and that friggin' clicking from those adjustable squeeze ortho pliers against my teeth...*shivers*

I have braces and its very very important to brush your teeth and floss everyday. If we don't take of our teeth we are taking 1000 steps backwards.

I had braces in my teens. After one of those tightening sessions things got so bad I couldn't drink or eat at all. Even my own saliva hurt so bad. Dentist said It'll go away. Luckily my mom was a nurse and took me to ER for hydration. A surgeon desided to take me to operation room and removed EVERYTHING. I'd rather have crooked teeth than risk suffering that much ever again.

Currently dealing with a tooth infection that won't be treated until 1.5 weeks from now. I feel the same pain as when I got my braces and got my wisdom teeth taken out

2:09 I had the same problem but then 10 times worse. The print was so deep that it caused bad swelling. After 2 weeks they took it out for me and replaced it with nightly outboard braces.

I had braces as a child and as an adult. I know how to treat my braces but brackets do break off. My orthodontist was fixing one and he popped another two off. It happens. What I hated was how food get stuck in your braces and I felt like after every bite I needed to brush my teeth which I pretty much did. And yes, they do hurt when they first tighten them but that’s only for a few hours and it’s very tolerable.

My friend has broken probably about 8 brackets, she follows the rules and doesn’t eat what she was told by her orthodontist. Me on the other hand has broken none and i eat a lot of crunchy things (especially ice) that I’m not supposed to eat, keep in mind that I’ve had my braces probably 6-8 months before she got hers. I think my orthodontist just uses stronger glue but its funny to us 🤷

I got my braces on for my 16th birthday and was set to get them off on my 18th. I got them off early! Never broke a bracket. Accidentally bent a wire once on a french fry. It was a fluke... The ortho had a good laugh about it. It was super easy and I LOVED my braces!

I wore braces from 1980-84, I broke my bottom brackets on the simplest things ie: corndog 🙄 but it happened so much that they put bands on my six bottom front teeth. (Like the ones that went on your molars) This made spaces between my teeth. Also, they didn’t have palate expanders back then so they pulled 8 baby teeth and 5 permanent teeth to make room! (I was 9 when the process started) I then had my 4 wisdom teeth removed in 1988 when I was 17. I still have my retainers but they are too small.

I had braces for about 2 years, then had to wear a retainer for 6 months full time and then 6 months just at night....those were the instructions my orthodontist gave me. They did stay straight for another 6 years or so then when my wisdom teeth came in, they came in crooked and there wasn't enough space for the bottom two, there was a lot of pain and pressure then but no moving, but after I had my wisdom teeth removed there was more movement, now one of my bottom teeth sits further back than the others. It doesn't bother me enough to go through braces again though (and I couldn't afford to go through them again anyway)

When I was 13, we got a puppy who was part German Shepard and she was crazy with her physical affection (she thought that petting you back was the nice thing to do) she pawed my face three times, getting her claw stuck on the wire, panicked and ripped out the wire ALL THREE TIMES. When explaining to my ortho and his team how it happened, they laughed in my face and told me to stop pulling it out by myself... Sorry but I would have NEVER done that and it's not easy to just yank your wire out on your own. I even had my parents back me up because they watched it happen all 3 times and they still called me a liar.

I got my bite enhancers removed within 2 weeks, it was horrendous. Then I got some cushions on the brackets for a few months, that worked way better 👍🏻

My mom paid for braces when I was 12 in the 90s. She took them off in a year bc I didn't stop sucking my thumb. I paid for a 2nd set at 22 and stopped sucking my thumb the day I took my braces off. Braces were embarrassing back then love all this supportive content out now for modern day brace faces💙

I remember when I had gotten my braces I'd constantly get cuts in the inside of my mouth from the rubber band hooks and the wires, which extended past the tube on the rear metal bands, which also turned in ulcers/canker sores. I had to use a lot of wax to cover those areas until I could go back and at least get them to use the wire cutters for the back.

I was a terrible brace patient. I wasn't intentionally damaging but I also wasn't nearly as careful as I should have been.

I had braces for 5 years, from beginning 8th to mid of 12th grade. I had to relearn to play the trumpet with braces then without. I do have bonded retainers on top and bottom. Im glad I had braces when I was younger. 😊

4:19 I had one of these. My right tooth was pushed to the back where it wasn’t aligned with my other teeth so I had to get braces and those ANNOYING BITE BLOCKS!!! And after they would just take them off after your done with braces completely.

I had braces and the most pain I had was when I had my first wire put on. I walked around with my mouth open for a week. I made the mistake of closing my mouth and literally cried, but after that I was like bring it on. I also got my braces off early because I had a high pain tolerance.

Bentisttt... i got my upper braces yesterday... at around 11 am.. i felt nothing till 6pm.. since then I'm aint able to chew anything...

The only time I had brackets snap off was because I moved and had to switch orthos. I had a student working on my mouth and she snapped off 2 brackets. I didn’t and still don’t get bothered by mouth pain, so dentists get everything done quick 😂

i need every single year an mri scan and when the appointment was made i also made an appointment with my orthodontist as the mri scan always pulled off multiple brackets

The way the dentist told me that I have to have my braces on is for a couple months put the upper ones on and then put the bottoms on. I’ve had them on for about 2 to 3 weeks now on the upper teeth and my teeth are not 100% straighter, but at least 10% straighter when I started

All my braces did to my permanent teeth was make them really weak and erode away half my enamel when finally had them removed this was 40 years ago . I had braces between ages 7-14

After my braces were taken off when I was a teen, it took my orthodontist several months to get my retainers made. By the time I got them, they didn't fit because my teeth were already shifting. They wanted to charge my parents for another set of retainers and go through all that nonsense again. Sadly, I didn't come from a wealthy family, sooooo my teeth shifted back somewhat. All that pain and all those visits for nothing... No way in hell am I ever going through that again.

Guys use your water flosser around brackets and gums. Try to floss in between teeth and eat everything in smaller portions while having braces. You don’t want swollen gums or white spots on your teeth that are permanent. My son just had his braces taken off last week after 17 months and his orthodontist told him he has the cleanest teeth of anyone he ever seen.

I had gum overgrowth when I had braces. Brushed after every meal, flossed daily, did everything right. As soon as I got them off my gums went back to normal. Turned out I was having a reaction to the metal or the rubber bands!
