Filtration and aeration is everything. When I was in college we went on a field trip to a tilapia farm in California. we walked up to the tank and There were fish outside the water! There were so many of them, I grab the owner by the arm and said "HOW IN THE HELL are you getting these densities?" He said "So you're the smart one." He dug a 30 foot hole and buried a 35" pipe in the shape of a U. The water went in and fed out the other side. Down in the bottom he had injectors that point source injected oxygen and he said the longer the air bubble is submerged, the more diffusion that happens. It was then I began to study diffusion. The smaller the bubble and the longer its submerged the more O2 carried to the fish. Something that has sat with my since 1999. People think I am crazy when I tell them this part.... He had three 4 lb fish per 1/2 gallon of water and they were blissfully happy. Blew my mind, because it violates EVERYTHING we have ever known! Glad you liked it. Many blessings.

I studied at harbor branch for a while, many people don't see high intensity systems on YT. I keep 1000 tilapia at 6.5 gallons per fish, wanted to keep it semi-intensive at the most. If we lose power due to hurricanes(florida) chances of survival are still high. During power loss of a few days from said hurricanes 2 fish were lost. Survival rate has been well above 95% since setting the system up. They are the Sherman tanks of the fish world it seems.

I wanted a complete system, Many people when designing their systems, typically build the system and they try to figure out what fish to grow. One should always build the system around the fish they want to raise in my opinion. Glad I could help with some ideas.

I live in the middle of AZ and for a winter crop, there needs to be alt heat. I use 2 Finnex Deluxe Titanium Tube Heater with Guard 800 W. Attached to 1 Inkbird ITC-608T Temperature Controller with Dual Temperature Sensor AC Dual Stage Outlet Thermostat with 12 Period Time Stage 1800W, This is inside the fish tank. If you want to heat the grow beds I use a Bucket Water Heater, Kingwork UL-Listed 1500W Immersion Heater with Thermostat and Auto Shutoff, Submersible Pool Heater with Full 304 Stainless-Steel Guard, Heats 5 Gallons of Water in Minutes. I place it in the underground sump. I dont grow in the winter, because the cost of heating the ambient air temp in the greenhouse (600 Square foot) If was to heat it, I would fabricate a 30 gallon diesel tank and use a Anbull 8KW Diesel Air Heater, 12V All in One Parking Heater, Single Air Outlet Diesel Heater with LCD Remote Control. (found on Amazon) to heat the place cheapest as possible. Some climates may be too cold for this unit. So you would have to correctly size your unit to your climate and greenhouse size. The cost of heating is not worth the money invested for me, considering we have 9 months out of the year we can grow allowing for amazing succession crop planting! Hope this helps! Many blessings!

That is an AST 2000 filter. Filtration is crucial for the success in aquaponics. About 4 years ago I paid $1,300 for it from underwater Warehouse. They do have an AST 4000 for a larger fish tank. It looks like the AST 2000 is $1,000 and the AST 4000 is $1,800. Worth every single dime

100 gallon tank is what I use.

We are its in cruse control. We are drilling a well right now and we will be planting 1.5 acres of farm raised veggies. So focus has shifted. I will be posting more videos.

I called it green moss. but its algae. Sorry for the confusion.

Algae include unicellular, multicellular and colonial organisms, while all mosses are multicellular.

@@Johnny_Benson Ok, good to know. In my area I've been calling it green algae. I used to manage golf course ponds and have had to use an excavator to remove blooms that where totally out of control. Unfortunately it's too cold for Tilapia here and I doubt Rainbow would be as content eating the stuff.

It's a 200 gallon uncut poly fish tank. You cut your own holes for your design

I appreciate you reaching out. Yes they will eat it. In fact frogbit is a form of duckweed only larger. In fact, their diet is mostly composed of aquatic plants, algae, and diatoms. A small percentage of their diet also includes microcrustaceans, aquatic insects, and fish eggs. In habitats with a shortage of plants and algae, tilapia have the potential to shift their diet to include more proteins. They may feed off the bottom for worms or shrimp. They may even chase and consume small live fish like mosquito fish or shiners. I hope this is helpful for you. Many blessings

Overstocked in most systems, I'm am advanced in aquaponics. I can get away with these densities because of my system. There's a guy in California raising tilapia and he injects pure oxygen into the tanks and you can't even see the water and they are growing like crazy.
