I had a 56 with a 392 and a torqeflight out of a new Yorker. A real beast to try to drive. Couldn't keep it in a straight line.

The 429 CJ was a modified wedge head motor, similar to the Chevy 396-454. You're thinking of the 429 BOSS motor, which was refereed to as a Semi-Hemi. That was due to the combustion chambers having a "squish" area that was suppose to help flame travel during ignition.

the Boss 429 if i recall had Semi-Hemi heads on it to create the power, and the rest was up to it being a tall deck design and larger cubic inches for torque. Ford wanted to continue growing the CC's of the Boss motor but NASCAR wouldn't let them to stay competitive.

NRE made this truck! there is video of Tom the owner of NRE driving this thing a few years back after it got finished up. I think Tim, needs to take a couple of pointers from Tom about how to handle big power, the kind of power Tom drives EVERYDAY..

Ford only made it a Semi-Hemi so people wouldn't think they were ripping off Mopar. They said that themselves. Also, Ford made the first Hemi I believe with the flathead.

Every Top Fuel car makes big power. Every Top Fuel car has Hemi heads, whether it is a ford, Chevy or Mopar architectural block by design they all run hemispherical heads, they create more power period. It is a fact.

One thing I have observed in many years of hot rodding is that it is fairly common to see Fords and GMs with Chrysler engines, but EXTREMELY RARE to ever see any Mopar that needed a transplant from either of those lesser breeds.
