I think these episodes are so important to document a level of excellence and experience that guitarists like Tim, Michael Thompson and Landau, etc. have upheld for years. I sometimes get concerned that some of the current players aren't at this level, which may be unfair but.... Then there is Pete Thorn and a group of other players that are carrying the torch. Sometimes you will get a scenario that is similar to a Xerox of a Xerox of a Xerox and you forget how much better the original image was because you just get used to the degrading over time. These videos will be amazing references for future players that want to be as good as they can, they will see how high the bar has been set. Cheers!

hey're all brilliant players, Petes easily the best rocker and can kill it live and writes great guitar parts but i dont think anyone come close to conveying the emotion of the song through the guitar parts like Tim , i love his playing. He has done the studio thing for so long he s just so good at it , following the chords and building a story with his phrases , he schooled them haha

Tim has a definite signature when he improvises his own stuff. I am sure, when recording for records, he is a versatile as it gets. But, having watched his video lessons for about a year now, you can absolutely feel a signature to his phrasing. [IMO] I always feel quite fortunate when he puts up a lesson.

My comment may not carry any weight but that was the best sit down conversation I've ever come across. Imagine you were sitting in a room full of friends who just happen to be the best at what they do, having a beer and just talking about the reasons we all play guitar. Now include topics that include some the best imaginations that have come down the pike. Wait a minute - that just happened except I wasn't actually in the room, and I don't really know these guys but this little video made me feel that way. Oh, by the way, I did get to have that beer though.

I think an invaluable lesson to take from this video and collectively from all thus far is to follow your ears when finding a sound that speaks to you and your playing. These older session guys didn't have the cult of fanaticism we have these days with flavor of the week pedals/amps/gears and wide spread reviews/forums etc. I feel often the ubiquity of information available online on what defines good tone is a blessing and a curse. On one end its allowed us to learn from the mistakes of others and more quickly access greater sounds but on the flip I think it stifles creativity and that individual quest for unique sounds and textures. A lot of these rigs shown on this show are ridiculously idiosyncratic and particular, often showcasing ugly duckling effects and/or amps and stuff that just works for the artist. So I guess I'm just saying, if you find something that sounds good, to you with or without a consensus agreeing on its greatness, embrace it! Great as always, thx!

With guys like Pierce and Thompson you really get a unique look into the many years of experience during the heydays of the music scene where it was still dominated by studios and producers and all it took was a lucky break to propel you into stardom. It could've happened to any one of us IF we had been at the right place at the right time and as you can tell these are just ordinary guys that love guitar just like me. It's really a shame that this is not the way it is now nor will it ever be again but the beauty part of this show is the willingness of the guys to get together and share their experiences and give us a look at how it was on the inside. Great-great-great stuff!!! Keep these fantastic videos coming! Saludos desde Puerto Rico! Ciao!
