Tim Burton created the original story, but it was Henry Selick who made the film with Tim Burton's blessing, and it's actually VERY different from the book

I kinda hate this theory, why would halloweentown be an after life? They can’t JUST be monsters? People should be doing this with the minor/background characters of corpse bride, not nightmare.

She was created. Her body is stuffed with leaves- She falled apart so easily do to the doctor's shoddy job at keeping her well put together which implies she was one of his earlier works. You could question if it's the spirit of another character- But with how the body looks she is obviously not just from one body and the flesh doesn't belong to her. She likely learned alchemy from the doc and or his books (which he may or may not have). She seems to have been built to be an Igor of sorts, as she cooks him food and generally helps him This (when she isn't trying to run away).This theory is very easily poked full of holes.

FYI: Oogie Boogie is revealed to be full of bugs because he was once a from an abandoned holiday fittingly called Bug Day. So he decides to take over Halloween after Jack brought him back to Halloween Town. Or something like that, the backstory came from an old gameboy game.

I've always had a hard time believing the "past lives" theories of Nightmare Before Christmas, mainly because of _the other holiday worlds._ Like, if Halloween is some kind of land of the dead/afterlife, what about Christmas town and the other holiday worlds? Are they other lands of hereafter as well? Did Santa have a past life where he died and was reborn as Santa?

This is a good video but you're wrong about Boogie. At least according to the Nightmare Before Christmas prequel GBA game, Oogie Boogie was actually the Bug King from a different holiday town. However due to people no longer celebrating whatever holiday he was apart of, his town began to fade away. In a last ditch effort he entered Halloween town and attempted a hostile takeover with a bug army. Jack beat him but wanting to be merciful, banished him to live under that tree house.

These characters “dying” doesn’t necessarily make sense considering that in corpse bride they have an actual underworld where dead people go. Sally’s character was also inspired by his ex who played the mother of Ikabod Craine in sleepy hollow. Dr Fienklestein made sally to be a companion for himself. Hence why he made another woman at the end to have another companion for himself.

Lock, Shock, and Barrel's names is how they died. "Lock"ed in a freezer. Drowned in a "Barrel" "Shock"ed to death.

This is just a theory, but you know how everyone’s saying that sally never died because the other guy said “I made you”? Maybe he found her body ripped apart and put her back together, so sally did die from being torn apart, but dr finklesteign or something saved her?

I always imagined that Shock was electrocuted (hence the crazy hair and dark eyes). It lines up with their naming schemes as well if you assume Lock-Locked out of somewhere, Shock-electrocuted and barrel-sealed in to drown.

I get that this video is essentially a "theory" but uhhhh several things to point out here... "there are even a few points in the film where it looks like the wind is speaking to her as it gently blows through her hair" Because it IS. If you'll recall the This Is Halloween song at the start of the film there's a line that says: "I am the 'who' when you call 'who's there?' I am the wind blowing through your hair." "Do you remember when she was making soup for Dr. Finklestein? She clearly knows her way around alchemy & potions" She lives... IN A LAB. And has been around the doctor for presumably years at that point so naturally she would've picked up a few things from the doc. ALSO, Dr. Finklestein MADE Sally. He says it IN the movie "Though they had many different ways in dealing with suspected witches one of the most popular, next to burning them alive at the stake, was the act of dismemberment" Burning was preferred in Europe. Hanging was preferred in America. Also, dismemberment wasn't popular. The most popular ones were burning, hanging, & beheading. Yes you COULD consider beheading "dismemberment" BUT they're saying FULL dismemberment of a body, not beheading, soooo there's that. (Also, whilst fact checking the above for deaths via witchcraft, I learned that there were FOUR cases in recent history. There was nothing between the years of 1811 to 2009. In Ghana someone was burned for accusatory witchcraft in 2010, Saudi Arabia in 2011 & 2012 by beheading, and Somalia in 2020 by firing squad!! WHAT!?!?! Remind me to NEVER go to those countries... ever.)

I'm giving an extremely rare (for me) thumbs down for worse than poor reasoning; this is more like pandering to "theorists" because they're such rabid fans. Interpreting stylistic choices as "clues" is fun, but not reasonable analysis. If Halloweentown were a metaphor for the afterlife, it would be more consistent and obvious.

Sally was literally created!! There is no way she had a past life and died. Also, the death theory held up until you got to Oogie Boogie. He literally came from a different town called I think Bug Town where people celebrated Bug Day. It was long forgotten and started fading away. So in an effort to save himself, he jumped into Halloween Town and decided hey this could be a great place to take over. So there you go

Well this is crazy, when I was a kid I thought that the doctor created Sally sort of similar to a Frankenstein sort of thing. The Dr. did say that he created her.

This may seem crazy but I think none of the monsters died nor had an actual life on earth. They were all created for Halloween town, like how the elves were created for Christmas Town and how the Easter Bunny was created for Easter Town. This isn't the underworld, it isn't a place for lost or dead souls it's Halloween Town, a Town created for a specific holiday and season. There are various fiction monsters like Vampires and Frankensteins and EVEN the devil himself. Therefore they were simply created for the purpose of Halloween Town

The doctor mentions she is his creation. And since by the end of the film he view's her as a failure he built himself a new one. It is pretty clear she is a basic Frankenstein monster, not some tragic woman condemned to death.Also the fact his latest creation is clearly a wife, I suspect he originally created Sally to be his bride but it failed. Much like the old Bride of Frankenstein? You know, she was created to be a bride but refused.

i have a theory that jack is actually the Headless knight. I think makes sense cause the Headless knight sometimes uses a pumpkin as a head, and also jack can take of his head and put it back again.

I read the Disney and Tim Burton approved sequel book titled "Long Live the Pumpkin Queen" and it is all about Sally. Highly recommend it.

The townspeople coming back to life in Halloweentown is it good and I believe in it however you have to look at the actual townspeople to know what you're talkin about Sally never died you even mentioned dr. Finkelstein he barely has any dialogue in the movie and one of his most notable pieces of dialogue is " I made you you know" not only that the reason Sally knows how to make so many potions is because dr. Finkelstein taught her so he didn't have to make soup

I just want to clear up that dismemberment was unheard of in the Salem witch trials and even burning witches at the stake was rare. The most common forms of punishment were imprisonment and hangings.

All of this would be fascinating if Tim Burton himself hadn't already spoken out that the short claymation Vincent had absolutely nothing to do with Nightmare Before Christmas, despite him admitting that all the speculations were interesting.

While I don't think either theory here holds much water, they both seem more plausible than the theory that all burton films are related, so I can't be too irked

in one of the special limited edition dvd releases of nightmare before christmas (i think it was an anniversary release, but i cant be certain), it came as a box set: dvd 1 holding the movie, some ads for other movies coming out around the time of that release, and i believe a music video of some sort. dvd 2 held a behind the scenes thing, a sing-a-long segment, and the short "vincent" (i think the original frankinweenie was also there). i got this particular box set when i was little, so i doubt i still have it... if i do, its probably scatched to hell because i watched it so much and isnt worth much because small child me decided to colour jack's face on the front of the box with a pink marker

There’s a theory about Jack and I think it’s possibly true is that he/was the headless horseman, if you pay close attention to his song when he’s going through the graveyard🪦 there’s a statue of a guy who looks like he’s been frightened to death along with his horse, the speculation is that marker is Ichabod and Gunpowder his horse🐴

With Lock, Shock and Barrel its obvious with Lock where, yknow, locked outside in the cold, but the other two fell abit flat. Shock seems to have been electrocuted, hence the windy sparked out hair. This can also explain the lack of color in her lips. Barrel's hair is also a sickly green, and he has a skeleton outfit. He may have been dumped into a tub of acid. But of course, alot of these backstories seem really far fetched, everyone needs to remember although yes these are fun theories, alot of thought may have not gone too far into the designs.

Alt theory, Sally is coraline Jones. Coraline is a very curious person, so is sally, coraline is into gardening so It would make sense for her to know about plants even after death, and also that looks just like that cat from coraline at 5:11, and dr. Finklestein created Sally, and for something to think for itself it has to have a brain, look at all of his inventions, Sally has to have a brain... maybe its coralines brain

This movie was made by Henry Selick, and from what I know Tim burton only showed up for around three days and that was it. If Henry selick actually got any recognition for his amazing work in making this story (and directing) he would have made more amazing iconic films like this. Truly disappointed tim burton got all of the fame for someone else's hard work.
