Drill guide jig for drilling straight 1" peg holes through 8" timbers. The concept can be applied to other diameters and lengths.

What a great idea! Copying is the greatest form of Flattery. Taking your idea, and using material that I had lying around, I have made my own version of "George Straight"!

Great design. I have the mirror with the hole in it for some projects I'm looking at tackling but haven't tried to use it much yet. Your design looks a lot more precise though! Really enjoying the videos! George Strait! Too good... One question that popped up in my mind was .. do the auger bits chew at the inside of the pvc much... like do you see it slowly widening the inside of the tube and needing to be refreshed as play gets wider?

Thanks for the compliments! I was concerned about PVC pipe degradation from the outset, so I designed the jig to make the pipe easy to replace. After 50+ peg holes, I didn't have any noticeable wear, and I was pleasantly surprised that the pipe never needed replacing. The inspiration for the PVC pipe came from the metal block drill guide for regular-sized bits (example link below). My rationale was that if the metal holes in the block drill guides do not tear up standard sized drill bits and vice versa, perhaps an auger bit inside a PVC pipe would not tear up the pipe. www.amazon.com/Big-Gator-Tools-BGRSTD2000DGNP-Standard/dp/B00GUS6VZY .

Looks good. What diameter of drill bit are you using. What size of dowels/pegs are you using as well.

Very interesting brother.. Did i heard good, it is been use in 8" timbers, but the gap there is 8 7/16".....is it just to have a room to play, in case timber it is not square??

The opening width past about 8 1/4" was arbitrary. I just needed it to be wide enough to accommodate my widest timber face but not so wide that it reduced precision. I found that each of my "8 inch" timbers was slightly different in size. One timber might be 7 7/8" for example while another could be 8 1/4".

nice jig man, it seems that Dewalt drill does a good job in big size lumber would you mind sharing the model no.? thanks for your great videos

Did you use the services of an Engineer by any chance? If you did the engineering work by yourself, what did you use as a guide? Also, the dolly had a wheeled support at the other end. Did it come along with the Jr. dolly? Their web site does not seem to show that extra item

@N Rao. I did not use an engineer. I used beam span calculations for Doug Fir and Cedar to stay under the maximum deflection limit for my roof load. I was very conservative so its over engineered for load. For example I assumed snow load and I'm in Houston Texas where it rarely snows. Is this what you are asking about with regard to engineering? This is the dolly. www.amazon.com/Strongway-Panel-Dolly-Pneumatic-Wheels/dp/B07RV54ZC6

@@LouisStorms Yes, that link helped. Thanks I am planning on using the design of Shawood, a Japanese company. www.google.com/search?q=shawood&client=ms-android-samsung-gn-rev1&prmd=vnmi&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjk89CQ2e3wAhVVHs0KHdNwCwEQ_AUoBHoECAIQBA&biw=360&bih=646 Since I have designed a residence, I plan on hiring an engineer. Thanks. GREAT help
