Very helpful video! Love the subtle humor and the step by step detail. Perfectly put together! Leaves you with all the knowledge you need to do it yourself!

I know de video is five years old, but today I made one for hoisting 6 meter long 5 x 20 cm beams up with a chain tackle to 4 meter high, it works great. I could even move the legs one by on for a little re-positioning the tripod to get the beam at 4 meter high. still have 12 beams to go for the pent roof of 6 X 12 meter, now the surrounding is ready. Thanks for the instructions to make this tripod.

Great video! I'll be using this on a smaller scale for camping applications!👍

so how many tons could you lift before the stand cracks? does this rival a 2 ton hoist stand from harbor freight?

You wanna have fun? Watch this video with a 5th of tequila. Then, every time they say "clove hitch" say "CLOVE HITCH!!!" and take a shot! I've got to lay down now! :D

Wouldn't the rope around the legs at the bottom get in the way of any large timber that sticks out past the legs?

How long are the 4x4 timbers that you used: 8', 10', 12' ???

If you want to use trees to build a tripod, vispieux.com has the hunter"s pod that is specially built for this purpose.

Totally RAD! I was racking my brain trying figure out some way to lift a few very heavy objects, like a brick column at the end of my driveway that some asshole knocked over. In fact the column has been knocked over twice. The first time it was knocked over I asked this steroid freak looking guy working next door to “help me” lift it back up. I swear the column has to be close to 800 lbs if not well over 1,000 lbs.. A rough calculation of the weight of the individual bricks, mortar and aggregate in the center definitely justifies my weight guesstimation. Anyway, the testosteronely endowed gentleman was able to deadlift the column up. To be honest it was too freakish to watch and I’d prefer to effect the column by some mechanical means this time around. So I considered a jib crane like the one at Harbor Freight. But not only is it serious overkill, it wouldn’t even work. A commercial jib would not be able to handle 1,000 lbs.. But let’s say it could handle 1,000 lbs. The ballast to counterbalance it would have to be either enormous or so compact and heavy that it would essentially be a permanent fixture next to the column after erected. Yes, I could weld a tripod for the jib crane and weld a trailer hitch tongue to attach to my truck. But that’s a lot of material and I can’t get the truck close enough to the column to make it work. Oh, and only a fvcking retard would spend $5,000 to lift a column worth about $500. Soooo, finally the little hamster that lives inside my head decided to exercise its fat ass for the first time in history and tried out the hamster wheel that God bought him 49 years ago. AND voila! The tripod idea came to me. I thought I was going to be famous and go down in history with other thought pioneers, like the guy who came up with the heliocentric theory. You guys owe me an envelope and a forever stamp. I had already completed my patent application form and sealed the envelope when I discovered your futuristic thieving video. This is my redneck idea and you guys stole it from me. And you’re so greedy! You already invented the Time Machine but that wasn’t enough. Huh? 😔
