Love the floor! I really like that you bypassed the moisture testing and went ahead and installed a moisture reduction coating taking the moisture issue out of the picture from the start. I wish more flooring outfits would pick up on that logic- solve a bundle of performance and call-back headaches before they even start!

Great work as always. Do you ever have to sand the metallic with sanding screens before applying poly?

Thanks! Sometimes. It just depends on the job. Occasionally we will need to screen it if job site conditions cause a lot of debris to get in it.

You do awesome work here. Where are you located? What is the average estimate of 20x20 floor?

Thank you! We are in Virginia. Price depends on a lot of things (location, prep needed, size of job) but most metallic floors are between $10-$14 per foot.

what brand of epoxy do you guys use? i didnt see any torching or denatured alcohol sprayed and it still came out pretty bubble-less

How well does this system stand up to heavy traffic? Or office chairs?

We used this system in a local aquarium 3 years ago and its still holding up well. We’ve also done garages and it seems to do fine.

I'm getting ready to do my basement floor and was curious on your thoughts. I don't really have a spot to spend a couple of days while I'm doing the epoxy in the basement so staying somewhere else isn't an option. Would you recommend just put a visqueen barrier to keep the some of the chemicals from coming into the rest of the house all day (no basement door) or do you have other options? Or do you recommend not to be in the house at all until it cures?

If you use 100% solids epoxy, the fumes aren’t really that bad. You should be able to tape vents and the door going upstairs to contain it all in the basement. It would also help if you did the job during warm weather so you can crack windows downstairs (or upstairs).

We don’t have many issues switch bubbles as long as we make sure our basecoat is perfect before we move forward with the metallic coat.

How do u get these jobs? I do small residential side jobs from time to time. And I’d love to leave my union job to do this full time on my own, but it’s not worth it unless I were to get commercial jobs.

It just takes time making connections to get projects like this. For example… we’ve wanted to work with this business owner for a few years, but we had trouble getting our foot in the door. We finally made a connection with them earlier this year and now we’ve done 3-4 projects for them. We survived on homeowner jobs for the first 7-8 years of being in business. You just have to price them right and not spend too much on unnecessary equipment until you get going.

Metallic is no joke. I usually install light gray before my white. That makes your white really white and when the epoxy turns cream white in the future the gray helps it not look so cream white. Elite cretes charcoal pearl is the best for all white Metallic

Good to know. They picked a color called “pearl” so I think they expected one with a little tan in it… but that’s a good idea to keep it looking whiter. I saw a white one that you posted the other day on IG. It looked awesome. 👍🏻
