In a field of JDM orientated cars we ran into Ian Porter’s Ford XR6 turbo Ute at Vic Time Attack. The Barra powered Falcon now sports a Nissan sourced IRS rear end all built in under three months. This was Ian’s first time down to the Island and the car ran quite well besides a broken front splitter.

At 2:10 I was sitting there thinking "you'll have to drop a gear or adjust those ratios" and then it pulled out of the corner like a boss, some real good low end torque right there.

Don't forget the turbo starts kicking in at a very low 2000rpm. It's a beast of a engine, shame we will never see it again with EcoBoost hogging the non V8 ford range worldwide.

Yes the engine swap is nice, but I'm most impressed by that rear end swap - beautifully crafted shock towers directly integrated into the cage, all those bend tubes, and all that plus the engine in just three months...

I have one in Michigan, going into a 98 ranger. They're a bit of an orphan in parts as far as a trans goes but we're working on it and will have adapters available for modular autos (4r-10r) and modular manuals like the m5 and zf, as well as the mt82 (the last one will die fast).

With a good exhaust, intake, and resonator yeah.. or they sound like a pepped up tractor. But, the sheer brute power they can make is where they shine above other engines

Would there be any advantages to mounting the rear wing on or slightly forward of the rear axle line? I.e. rear downforce would not unload the front axle.

My old street GTR34 was doing quicker than that around PI, 1:44's with full AC and interior, no cage or chassis bracing etc. Sounds really nice this car, but should be a bit quicker I would have thought?

Simons World bit rough to compare a 3k car and 5-10k engine depending on what’s done to a 50-100k car, but if you threw another 30k on the Barra you would be up there

Simons World if you take out the 300zx rear end, there’s not a lot done to it, some half decent breaks, and suspension, some interior/ electrical work, and some basic engine mods, if you’ve got a welder some steel and some know how you can pretty much do all the interior/ engine bay piping yourself. You pay more for labour then you do parts in a lot of circumstances, if you take out paid labour it’s not over the top

Why? To constantly have to fix it? The Barra is by displacement a more efficient and powerful engine. The stock FG turbo will make 310kw/415hp and plenty of torque. Light mods make these things do 6-700hp reliably.

Sounds like a 4 cylinder with a massive exhaust from the outside, these engines are great and easy to make reliable power on a budget but they sound like shit and fords are shitboxes
