It wasn't a "snake move", it was an opportunity to get better, and Masai handled it like a smart businessman...at the end of the day, the league IS a cut-throat business.

Also look at Casey now what is he doing? Nurse is in his first season and putting players into position to succeed. Ball movement, good job in switching defense from man to zone. This Friday when Demar comes back to Toronto to play his first and last game of the season at ACC as a spur it’s gonna be so bittersweet. DeMar DeRozan is a solid player. A good 2 guard and made great contribution to the team and to the city of Toronto.. But he is not a finals MVP or a 2 time defensive player of the year. That's what we got in Kawhi. We got an elite athlete who is a prolific scorer and defensive workhorse in his prime! When we got Gasol and Danny Green we got legitimate goal scorers and basketball intellgence. Masai has a chance to be a champion and he went for it. He had to get Kyle Lowry and the rest of the locker room to buy in. Once that happened he knew he would have a shot. Like in any new relationship you want to make sure you upgraded to someone better than the last. Lol

It was a good move for the Raptors for right now. We still don't know if Kawhi is going to sign long term, but Masai made the move believing he could convince him. After this offseason then we'll see if the move was really worth it or not.

Go all in on this year and see if you can convince Kawhi to resign, if he leaves then you switch to restocking and building the team with youth, Kyle massive contract will be done in a year, Gasol contract if he stays is for one year and both players could be assists next trade deadline. You can stay competitive while rebuilding like Boston did, have financial flexibility... also Raptors are hands down one of the better teams in the league currently at developing players.

Anybody who disagrees with Ujiri's decision on getting rid of DeRozan for a Leonard who will potentially only stay for 1 season doesn't grasp the concept of modern basketball economics. The days of 4 year deals for franchise players are coming to a close. The NBA is moving towards who wants the ring the most and who is willing to give up the most to get it. Queue the era of 1-2 year dynasties. The players, GM's, and owners are all on the same page in terms of the lack of loyalty remaining in the game. Somehow the fans don't seem to understand. All the stakeholders are on the hunt for 2 things, $$$ & silverware. They don't care whether a critical fan, who '"apparently" knows better than the people being paid to their their job, agrees or disagrees with their decisions.

Its strictly business.. dont understand why so much hate. I love derozan. Hes a loyal player. U guys acting like raps are in playoffs. There darn near first with lenord missing like 20 gms. Cmon man. So if and when Kawhi leaves, Ujiri will look back and say he made the right decision. But he should have known that Kawhi's doesnt make his own decisions. His uncle has had a plan to bring Kawhi to LA since two years ago.

T Will ShowTimeGaming A main part of the trade was to get out from Demar’s contract. Go all in on this year and see if you can convince Kawhi to resign, if he leaves then you switch to restocking and building the team with youth, Kyle massive contract will be done in a year, Gasol contract if he stays is for one year and both players could be assists next trade deadline. You can stay competitive while rebuilding like Boston did, have financial flexibility... also Raptors are hands down one of the better teams in the league currently at developing players.

I am a raptors fan who thinks we got better from the trade but i wanna go back have derozan back. I would rather have had derozan here for his entire career than a chance to go to the finals and get swept by the warriors.

Masai reasoning for trading Kawhi is sound but I still don't see him resigning with the Raptors. I think Kawhi is going to go sign with the Mavericks to play with Luka and KP and possibly a potential top 5 lottery pick (assuming Mavs get lucky and keep their pick). Cuban created a max contract slot when he dealt Harrison Barnes and Dallas has no state income tax making it much more attractive financially than Canada. Add to that signing with a Southwest division rival would really let Kawhi troll the Spurs for whatever reasons their relationship broke down. I don't see Kawhi yearning for the spotlight in LA and lol he just bought a new mansion in San Diego which is in the same state but not the same city.

Nothing against Massai because he's a genius, but this is why players demand trades and leave in free agency. Demar could have easily not resigned with the Raptors and went and formed some type of super team elsewhere. He stayed loyal and in the end was a scapegoat For Kyle Lowry who chokes in the playoffs.

I get that Derozan was upset he was traded, but he was going on and on about it months later. It's a business and if you can't help a team get to the next level, you'll get traded. Fact is, he couldn't perform when it mattered most.
