340 miles and 61 hours of cruising up the Florida Intracoastal Waterway from Miami to Jacksonville shared in about 30 minutes of relaxing time lapse.
This is a wrap up of our 2018 Great Loop cruising season. We had so much positive feedback on the time lapse videos we've integrated into our travelogues this season, we thought we'd try covering the entire trip in one compilation video.
Some segments did not get filmed because we didn't have this idea until later in the season, and we were still learning our new Garmin Virb camera and keeping it powered for a cruising day.
But you should still get a nice feeling for the variety of scenery up the ICW in Florida.
Sit back and Enjoy the cruise!
For the individual cruising segments, we have them all documented in our Great Loop Playlist.

Nice flat water sailing. You sure see lots of sailors with only two speeds...… none and full. Enjoyed watching it again. Happy sailing.

Good video, time lapse was excellent. I remember the hours of boredom at 8 knots leaving Jax and headed to Miami on my Defever 44. Now in Corpus Christi Down Town Marina and enjoying it as I live aboard full time.

Some trivia. Did you know once upon a time in Jax. a place called Jax liquor was set up like a McDonalds drive through. You could ask for a bourbon, vodka, gin, whatever, a cup of ice, cola, seven up,water, drive to the window and pay. They would set you up to drink and drive. They wouldn't mix the booze for you though. The good ol bad ol days. talking the early 70's. North of Jax Beach, there was a restaurant on the beach that's a beautiful setting. Dine and watch the phospherous light up the surf at night. Enjoying your cruise. Enjoy your youth!

Loved the video. but can't believe how people drive their boats, just crossing in front of you looks to be pretty close some times.. it they drive a boat that way, I don't want to be on the street with them lol.. I loved seeing all the water ways and places that you can go without having to use a car.. Did not know there were so many places you could go down there.. Still a great show..

The passings sure do look much more scary on time lapse... but in real time we're usually moving along at just 7-8 knots and the passings have plenty of room (and many of them coordinated as slow passes over VHF).

I’ve been following about 20 sailors and there crews on KZfaq for a few years ,, I would really like to get into sailing but have no experience at all other then going on a few NCl cruises lol , I truly love watching videos on the ocean but here is the crazy part I’m petrified of what’s under the water it might be because my parents took me to see jaws opening night in the 70’s lol .. I have figured out I like catamarans well I really like your style mini Yacht but the cost to operate would be well out of my comfort zone .. I want to really study boats and navigation over the next 2 years ,so on my 50th birthday I will sell everything (not much) and buy a used cat .. next time your in the Juno/Jupiter area maybe we can meet and talk about your knowledge of sailing and costs , drinks and steak on me as long as we can laugh and talk about boating
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks... at our pace, it'll be several years before we're back around to Jupiter however :) We're not overly knowledgable about sailing... but keep in mind, all boats have substantial maintenance costs (sails and rigging aren't cheap). For us, a motor yacht was the right choice for the type of cruising we're doing. You just don't get to sail much doing the Great Loop. And at our pace of travel, the operating costs (fuel, engine maintenance) are quite reasonable.

I like this video, along with your other time-lapse cruising down the St. Johns from Jacksonville, what what was a missed opportunity was to show continuous identifiers of towns, marinas, and points of interest along the way. The videos are going so fast, that when you come up to a spot that looks like somewhere one may want to visit themselves, we have no clue where you are. What would have been real nice, is to have a continuous insert, like your infrequent map, of the chart plotted voyage, zoomed in enough that one can see the actual location you're passing or visiting. Thanks!

We honestly haven't needed one on the boat.. Florida is pretty populated. If we need signal enhancing, we stick with MIMO. But we do have a couple boosters on board to try if needed - the weBoost 4G-X is still our favorite - www.rvmobileinternet.com/4g-x

How tall is the top of your boat/rigging? I was surprised at the bridges that appeared to have significant clearance to the water surface but were raised for your passage. Some time, on a calm day when the water is flat, I would like to see Y-Not slip out of the ICW and into the Atlantic for a little ride before she dives back for safety. Enjoyed the time lapse!! THANX!! (I love spelling it that way.)
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 5 жыл бұрын
We're 18.5' tall. When cruising in S. FL for example - most the bridge openings are on a schedule. If you're keeping a consistent speed you pretty much end up in sync with them. If there were other boats already waiting, we'd just wait with them instead of trying to sneak through. So not all bridge openings were because we needed them, but simply because we got there in time with an opening for other boats.
@wcarlhepker4806
@wcarlhepker4806 5 жыл бұрын
You were headed north. If you are going south, then the schedule doesn't work, right? I guess most of the boats doing the great loop on the ICW are going north on the Atlantic side but there has to be the occasional sail boat with a tall mast headed south. This has to be a pain for them, doesn't it?
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 5 жыл бұрын
There's no difference heading north or south.. bridges open at the same time. One bridge to serve both directions.

At 20:33 - is that former landing craft being as rude at seamanship as she looks like or did she hail you to pass so tightly? Her hull speed isn't appreciably faster than yours...

They did not hail us - but it was a much slower pass then it appears in time lapse speeds, and was not very tight.

As a former 4788 owner (upgraded) it looked tight even at 0.25 speed on YT. Glad to hear it was just another day on the ICW. Love keeping up with your loop. I'm hoping to do a version but my newer gal can't fit under the Chicago bridges so it may be a bit more creative or involve some 2AM trucking...
