I've heard many versions of this song and though it would be hard to improve on anything Phil has done the addition of Rex's impressive guitar work really enhanced it.

So there was a time when Phil told a story about his song 'Sunday School', similar to 'Time' as it left you hanging, grasping for something... it made you think long after you heard it, where someone had suggested to him to wrap up the ending in a nice neat tidy evagelical happy ending. Phil rightly said no, that's not the point of the song. I'm sad to see that courage, one of the most well done next to 'Time', has disappeared in this rewrite. I got saved listening to Keith, Phil, Chuck, and Larry and this song Time was a song that gave me chills, made me think long and hard about my life, and when Phil sang with conviction, "And worst of all it's too late to turn - You must face eternity!" it was the perfect collection of words for God to work on my heart his way. The lyrics worked and are embedded in my soul to this day. While I'm never sad at the mention of Jesus, I can be sad at the way the name is used - and here we see Phil taking that years ago extremely bad advice of neat, tidy, and safe fairytale endings as a *necessity* in 'Christian Music'. Gone is the conviction and Holy terror of Eternity. 'Too late to forgive your brother' filled me with agony, but now - 'Hey, it's all OK'. The purpose of the song, like Sunday School, was to stir you, hopefully make you lose sleep. It was perhaps the best in all CCM of 'art meets message' without being another cliche. Why not rewrite every song? Lets put this tag line now at the end of every single song. Lets take away nuance, story, texture, artistry - let's just be abrupt and obvious. This is all just my opinion, but if I had heard this version when I was 20, alongside every other version of Jesus Loves Me, it would have never had the impression on me like the original. The original put me in a corner, it forced me to question many, many things, it broke me up so Jesus COULD get in, his way. A genuine life altering impact of music and message. Lets not forget the listener... I can see how the artist makes themselves feel better singing it this way, perhaps alleviating their own fears and struggles, but the songs original purpose no longer serves the listener.

I remember the first time listening to Phil Keaggy in the early 70s. This song was just out and it blew my mind as a 13yr old teen. Thank you guys for reminded me of this incredible jewel of music. Also remember meeting Phil at Estes Park Colorado when I was touring with the Cruse in the 80s. What a humble and amazing musician...my hero. The guitar playing is stellar. This is my first time to hear Rex and you are such a phenomenal player. Thanks again for sharing!

DUDE! That was awesome. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 ive been playing and writing for 25 years and have always loved this song. Is this the original rhythm guitarist from the earlier youtube video of this song? I always said man that poor guy you can barely hear him and he's completely shredding back there. If it's him, we heard ya this time buddy. That was completely awesome.

This record should have been way better, than it was. Bucket-loads of talent. IMHO, the guys would have been better off, just, doing an entire record redoing older Keaggy tunes. Again, loads of talent, but, some weak song choices.

You screwed up the song by changing the lyrics
@Looshbaby3 жыл бұрын
yes, it was great as it was, it felt like a forced Christian moment
@notusedexer3 жыл бұрын
@@Looshbaby you know, you're right. It was a great song that was ruined because you changed a lyric for the sole reason to make it a more Christian sounding song. It already was. It didn't need the change. It basically ruined it.

More and more I find this song to be theologically wrong. I used to listen and buy Phils music but it is simplistic and sincerely wrong. Amazing musician if you drop the lyrics.
