My first time hearing Time's Scar from Chrono Cross! I was blown away by how great this is. The opening movie combined with this song just got me pumped up! I feel lucky to have come across this song!

Chrono Cross is, in fact, one of the greatest games of all time. It's not perfect, but most of the complaints were from people who wanted it to be Chrono Trigger 2 instead of just letting it be what it is.

Absolutely one of the GOATs for RPGs. Compelling story, endearing and complex characters, beautiful hand drawn art, and many previously unheard of things in video games, like full orchestral OST, new game+ feature, multiple endings based on choices in game, dozens of recruitable characters with unique abilities, and one of the most fun and inventive forms of turn based combat ever.

Cross was a fantastic story, but suffers from having originally been advertised as a sequel to Trigger. It takes place chronologically later (sort of) but it is very much it's own game. The combat system is not the greatest, but the world design and lore is phenomenal, all the music is amazing, and I'm super glad they gave it a remaster to let others experience it more reasily. The story in particular is very poignant, especially with the true ending which is alluded to in the title animation. It is very much worth a play or watchthrough and the music remains some of my favourite of all time to this day.

Seconded. It's a good game that suffers for being a "sequel". Would have been better as a separate thing. Even so, the soundtrack is top tier music. Not just game music, either. Mitsuda is brilliant. (His work on Chrono Trigger is excellent as well.)

I totally second it, I love it that they made an "extended version" out of it (not sure about what the other person down here said though, they might not like that version, and that's alright, but saying it's "unrecognizable" is a huge stretch, lol). That one is probably my favorite cover of Time's Scar, just behind the Symphonic Symphonies' version in the Chrono Trigger/Cross Suite

Even if a few people aren't fans of the gameplay or the game itself as a whole (especially in comparison to its predecessor, Chrono Trigger ((considered to be one of the most beloved rpg's of all time))), there is NO denying that this game's musical score is impeccable. Its atmospheric, lush, and beautifully crafted. I will unabashedly call it one of (if not THE) best video game scores of all time.

When this game first came out, I remember just leaving the intro screen running because it would loop that FMV and song as long as you didn't click a button. I was just so impressed by it. :) I picked up the remastered version for the Nintendo Switch last month and need to sit down with it eventually. Too many games to play, but this was a goldie!

Chrono Cross is one of the greatest games of all time, tastes may differ, but it has a lot of uniqueness together with the aspects that made PS1 era JRPGs so endearing (memorable settings and characters, pre rendered graphics, great OST, turn based battles) it even aged really well due to not having random encounters. The criticism "it's not a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger!" is extremely silly, while I also love Trigger, if games could only do direct sequels, a la Hollywood; FINAL FANTASY wouldn't be a thing, they would all be like the first and we wouldn't have VI, VII, IX, Tactics etc. The game may not be able to give all its dozens of character the same screen time, but what's there is good and there are plenty who do get a lot of characterization. Luckily in more recent years that "criticism" has lost steam and more people are enjoying the game for the first time or rediscovering it. And yes; Time Scar is top tier, this sequence has a beautiful payoff in the game's true ending too.

Scars of time is probably the most well known videogame song of people that don’t play it lol. There’s a great live version I always listen to on youlaila1 post. I think it was a Boston orchestra that performed it. Also the game was great, but it was a little all over the place. I think were around 30 characters, so it was hard to connect to the characters compared to Chrono Trigger. There’s another song I enjoy called “dream of another shore” which is similar to “rivellon” of divinity 2. They are both the music to the open world map mode of their game.

The game is a lot better than what people say. It has it's borks, but a lot of the hate for the game came from people expecting it to be Chrono Trigger 2, a direct sequel/same playstyle etc... which it very much wasn't. Chrono Cross is fantastic rpg and the only reason you have heard otherwise is because it's technically a sequel to one of the most beloved games ever made, and as a sequel it didn't live up to the expectations that people had for it. To be honest I think they should have titled the game "Scars of Time" and when you find out in the end that it actually takes place in the same world as Chrono Trigger it would be a mind blowing revelation. Also, I might jumping out the window here but I think Chrono Cross has the better ost, in fact I think it's Yasunori Mitsuda's second best score behind Xenogears. Chrono Trigger was his first score as a fledgling composer working under Nobou Uemtasu, and it has really strong, memorable themes, but the music in Chrono Cross has so much more depth, atmosphere, and emotional impact, to me anyway. You might hear a song like this and think well I doubt the rest of the ost could be that good, but it is, and it's even better after having played the game.

I still call it Scars of Time because it sounds better to me. That was the fan translation of the title before the official OST called it Time's Scar. Time's Scar just doesn't roll off the tongue as well. It's been like 20 years and I'm still (very mildly) upset about the translation, haha. I've never played it (meant to pick up the remaster the released I think last year but never got around to it) but I've always loved the sound track.

Chrono Cross is a fantastic game, and is a sequel to an even better game called Chrono Trigger that was released on the SNES,n the 90s. If you like RPGs, i highly recommend them. They both have fantastic music. If you'd like to hear some music from Chrono Trigger, the titular song Chrono Trigger that plays during the title screen eyecatch is great and showcases the main theme of the game. Another great one is Corridors of Time, or Undersea Palace. Just realize that these are 90s game songs and will sound fairly electronic due to the limitations of the time.
