Time To Buy Another Ferrari! [458 Speciale vs 488 Pista]

Күн бұрынMy friend lends me his 458 Speciale for the day, whilst he also lent me his 488 Pista for the week, so I share my thoughts on how the two cars compare. I also discuss the fact that spending so much time driving Ferraris again has made me want another one more than ever.
I also go for coffee with racing driver Oli Webb, who drives me there in a W Motors Fenyr.

I just started watching this channel after being aware of it for a long time, so I know I'm late in recognizing this.... I'm floored by how well it's shot. Even something as simple as getting into the car and driving out of the garage at 3:52 is 5 different shots. That's an incredible amount of effort to shoot and edit for 20 seconds of a video. Those transitions make the video flow very smoothly between acts/chapters. Beyond the awesome content, STG's videos are pleasant to watch because of that extra work.

schubioncars Nope... In piedmontese dialect "Pinin" is short for "Giuseppe" (Joseph in English) ...his name was "Battista Farina" and his father was called Giuseppe and was just like him.. So people began to call his son "little Giuseppe", Pinin ...and from that in Pininfarina became a family name ....;)

Love the honest passion at the end when contemplating the 2 cars! I never drove the speciale or pista (drove the standard versions of both) and I kinda want the pista also.

Never drove them only 18, but the naturally aspirated v8 makes the 458 Speciale my favourite. Even though the pista is better than speciale in almost everyway.

458’s are pretty reliable too, for a Ferrari. Don’t think there would be much point in keeping your 360 though.

599 is good too, I prefer the F12 too, but as a cheaper Option it isnt bad

But he just said he prefers mid engined and called standard 488 too soft. F12 is even softer. It's a GT car, which also happens to have V12 and it will kill you when it rains, but you know, it's still soft, designed for long journeys etc.

Since this vid came out, speciale even went down an other good 30k here in Switzerland. And there is very little volume in the market ! Waiting will definitely not hurt !

I know the Pista is faster, but the Specialè Aperta is just so perfectly beautiful. And that sound it makes is irreplaceable!

You were expressing the same kind of feelings I had when I drove both 458 and 488: The 488 is a bit better than the 458 on almost every apsects: Suspension, performances, braking feeling, etc.. Almost all points, exception made for 2 hings: Noise and experience. The 458 is SO MUCH more a sensorial experience experience then the 488! Moreover it's more than enough powerful to enjoy it, meanwhile the the 488 looked somentimes as a bit "too much". It's a completely subjective assessment, but these 2 points are the core of Ferrari's DNA in my mind... The conclusion I found about this was the 488 could be considered as a better sports car than its predecessor, but the 458 is the best Ferrari of both !

You should look into classic mid engined Ferrari’s. The Ferrari 308 for example isn’t the fastest car, however the experience with it is just solo nice. Having a nice high Reving V8, not too much horsepower, beautiful form and interior and the sound is great too!

I maintain the 458/458 Speciale will go up in value in the future. Same can't be said for the 488/488 Pista. I love the Pista though, make no mistake.

They're Ferrari's, they'll at the very least maintain their value. Very rarely do Ferrari's ever lose value. The Pista in particular will definitely gain value over time as it's still a member of the special edition mid engined Ferrari's (CS, Scud, Speciale, Pista). And while they're not technically limited production, they only get built for a limited time and the allocations are limited and reserved for approved customers only so they're still somewhat rare.

Yes...... get a 458! Tom not long ago bought one and it’s a beautiful spec. And I totally understand what your saying about the Pista vs the Speciale and the standard 488 vs the 458! I’d have the Pista but if they were the standard cars..... I’d take the 458.

I have a Pista and the 458 Italia which I think is a perfect combo! Yes one day I would love to own a Speciale too but if it doesn't happen I am fully satisfied with what I have...!

In my opinion the speciale is infinitely better, it has the right amount of power, the right weight, the right amount of communication through the wheel, the perfect soundtrack which the turbocharged cars very much lack, the perfect looks instead of the pista’s smashed in front end with a bar across it

Yea, it is unpopular opinion on the internet, but Pista>Speciale. It's beautiful, but also much more aggresive looking than speciale. Turbo engine makes it absolutely savage and for all the people who say, speciale sounds better. Maybe? I don't know but Pista sounds great too, or you can modify the exhaust if you want, check out Novitec Pista, it sounds amazing. To be honest, I'm perfectly fine with the sound of standard 488. I just like turbos I guess.

I own 458 Italia, I've always been crazy about Speciale, but after my friend instagram.com/cardoso.collector/ bought the 488 Pista, put it straight pipe on it and tuned ECU, I think No car in recent years is so much fun except for hypercars! But to enjoy the 488 Pista correctly, it has to be very good at the wheel, otherwise it is more or less a 488 GTB, now if you know exactly what you do is another level of car!

I'm going through a similar dilemma, i have had my 2004 Manual 360 Modena (you can see videos of it on my channel) for a year and put 10K miles on it, i absolutely love it, but just had the opportunity to pickup a 2010 458 that i couldn't pass up..and now i must decide which car to keep as i can't keep both..Do i keep the Modena or the 458 Italia..i've been driving the 458 for a couple of days, its amazing, but doesn't invoke the same engagement level as the Modena..First world problems lol..I will spend more time in the 458 to get its feel and make my final decision.

Now that you've explored your Ferrari version of Hamlet's 'To Pista or Not to Pista?' may I interject a bit of wisdom based on years of comparing vehicles? Among the cars in my stable (read as front yard) is a NISMO inspired 2007 Infiniti FX-35 with high mileage, a Honda with higher mileage and a 1998 Ford F-150 4X4 V8 with 325,000 miles or 523,000 kilometers on the odometer. My combined purchase prices and lifetime maintenance costs are less than new tires and an oil change at a Ferrari dealer. I can haul nearly a ton of horse s&%t on my Ford and haul it down terrain that would swallow a Ferrari. I've driven my FX-35 at over 5 times the speed limit in a School Zone on a public road and my Honda with AWD could climb partly over a Prius. I don't have the versatility, perhaps, that you do in a Ferrari, but I can tell you my neighbors here in Peckerwood Hills Mobile Home Park are damn impressed with my transportation options! If you was to come by and need one, you could shore borrow your pick! 'Scuse me, Bubba, but I gotta take me a "Pista" off my front porch here if they ain't nobody lookin, them longnecks is backin up!

Hey Sam, off course it's ok if you want to add an other jewel of Italian engineering (where do I put the quotes to be ironic? Around the Italian? The Italian engineering? or the whole jewel thing?) But the real question is will you keep the T or make the terrible mistake of getting rid of your aroundtheworld car? Just wondering and certainly not showing any biases or trying to push you in one or the other direction ... 😁
