Especially in context! You see all these well-put-together enclosures... then you see one, off by itself, with a rock seemingly hastily put on top... makes you wonder what might be lurking.

I had a tarantula many many years ago named Fred. A gift from an ex boyfriend. Along with a blue front Amazon parrot named Gus. Donnie (ex bf) is long gone, Fred 🕷is with his spider spirit family..and Gus 🦜 is still with me after 30+ years! Thank you so much for the charming education and/or entertainment you share with others. YOU ARE A SPECIAL UNIQUE LOVING HUMAN BEING! Much Love💓🤟🤙🌺💞 Btw: I freaked when I came home one day and Fred had shed his outer shell…I had no idea they did that and it was perfectly shed upright. 😳 I thought there were 2 tarantulas in its tank!!! So freakin cool!!

You were correct, that is Aphonopelma bicoloratum and I wouldn’t worry about her at all. I keep mostly Aphonopelma- they’ll go huge periods without eating. As long as they’re not deathly skinny, they’ll be fine.
@philtrevis
@philtrevis 2 жыл бұрын
I'm in the UK. Are bicoloratum a lot harder to come by the the likes of the chalcodes? Just wondering due to the massive difference in cost. The Arizona Desert Blonde appears to be the cheapest out of them all. Are the higher priced ones harder to breed?
@devinscreaturecrew
@devinscreaturecrew 2 жыл бұрын
@@philtrevis so Aphonopelma bicoloratum is actually native to Mexico and I personally keep US natives because almost no one gives them any affection here in the US :’) But to answer your question, they are a bit harder to come by, especially when compared to Aphonopelma chalcodes- but that’s because A. chalcodes is native and A. bicoloratum is from Mexico, which it is very difficult to get legal imports from. So in the case of A. chalcodes vs A. bicoloratum, it’s mostly because they’re non native and are slow to breed live every other true Aphonopelma. A. chalcodes has also been in the (US) hobby much much longer than almost any other Aphonopelma (pretty much only rivaled by A. hentzi) because they’re laid back and very easy to come by out in the wild but will also readily breed in captivity. With the combination of being easy to find for WC adults, relative ease of breeding, and the amount of time they’ve been in the hobby- it means they’re much more available. Thus the price lowers. The more expensive Aphonopelma like Aphonopelma moderatum, Aphonopelma paloma, Aphonopelma xwalxwal etc is because they’re much harder to collect and are indeed a bit trickier to breed- but not all are harder to breed, it’s just hard to find them and almost all native Aphonopelma (at least in the US) are WC. Non-US native Aphonopelma like A. bicoloratum and A. moorae are difficult to get legal imports from because they’re from Mexico so they’re much harder to find than our own native species. I hope this helped!
@philtrevis
@philtrevis 2 жыл бұрын
@@devinscreaturecrew I was kind of thinking along this line. Still quite new to the hobby in the UK, just over a year in and 16 T's owned. Still learning lots about various species. In the UK we can get the chalcodes (Desert Blonde and River Rust) quite readily. Right now I could probably get both of these, the bicoloratum and the hentzi from 2 or 3 different breeding suppliers. I have yet to come across the third chalcodes on my travels through the UK supply chain, the flagstaff? It is only recently that the Aphonopelma have really caught my eye. I really like the chalcodes and the bicoloratum but my wife thinks they're boring. Our first T's were Caribena versicolor, G pulchripes and my daughters N chromatus. The Aphonopelmas strike me because they are so different. I want to expand my collection but I am seriously running out of room. I need a bigger house!!!

@@devinscreaturecrew i agree the natives dont get a ton of love. Im quite the fan of the old worlds but got love for my natives too. My personal favorite is the Aphonopelma Hentzi. Mainly because as a native Texan i use to encounter them often. But now have cbb ones in my collection. Gotta love em
